Just one question. Why didn't you take some of the same images with each camera to help better demonstrate the Leica look?

I really like your videos. I think they are comprehensive and unbiased. When I had a Fuji I used the hybrid view finder. If set up properly you also have a depth of field indicator as a blue bar on the bottom of the view finder. That’s a great thing.

I do have both too. I’m still learning the Q2 to appreciate. I can’t get used to how the images look through the viewfinder and on the lcd screen. I’m struggling with it. The IQ of the Q2 is superior compared to the Fuji 6. X100VI is my first Fujifilm camera and I’m flabbergasted with the millions of menus and dito options. It’s quite a learning curve. But, it’s a nice camera. My thoughts now, after a week of X100VI, is to keep the Fuji for SOOC jpegs. Programming the C1-C7 custom options gives a lot of fun. And, more and more importantly (to me anyway), less or no editing. Thank You sweet Lord.

I think your video was worthwhile making, thanks. I still own the X100V and I have also used the Q2 (mainly the monochrome version). I enjoyed using the Q2 but as I also have a Sony A74 and multiple lenses I could not justify the cost of a Q2 for a "personal camera". Both cameras made me want to pick them up and take photos and have fun. For my own personal photos I am not pixel peeping and the fuji wins out due to the sooc jpegs and that I can put the camera in my coat pocket, unless you have huge pockets the Leica will not fit.
For all the X100VI distractors, these cameras are often compared as almost equals of a Leica costing 2x secondhand or over 3x the price new. That should tell you something. However if your pockets are deep enough then go for the Leica Q2/3 and enjoy it.

I have the fujifilm x100vi and for me it is a little bit shocking to release a new camera with the same lens with this annoying loud Af noise.

I have a Leica Q2 and Sony RX1RII in my EDC kit. I love both 26mm (Real Leica Q2 DOF) and the 33mm (Real RX1RII DOF) I love the DNG files from Leica Q2 and the wider Summilux lens, but the Sonnar f2 lens on the Sony Rx1RII is simply amazing too and much better than any Fuji APS-C camera lens combo incl. X100V (which I bought and sold twice).
For video work, I use A7CII as a hybrid camera. There is again no any Fuji or Leica camera that can combat with A7CII with a linear focused native Sony lens.
RX1RII is cheaper and lighter than Q2 (504 vs 734 g) and therefore always with me.

I think one advantage the X100s have over the Leica Qs and the Sony RX1s is the slim form factor. The Leica Qs are definitely the largest so not much to say there, but while the RX1s are smaller, the thinner profile of the X100s actually make them easier to slip into coat pockets and "non-camera" bags. It's a small thing but with how oddly feeling my RX1 can be in some of my bags I think it might be easier to carry an X100 while its overall size is larger.
Nothing beats the Ricoh GR when it comes to portability though :P

I had them like 3-4 times but always ended up selling them because i don't like the ergomincs, idk how to explain it but after spending some time with a Leica Q, i know i'm switching to the Leica Q2. Good and interesting video of comparing an second hand q2 with the Fuji x100vi new as even if the 2 cameras are not at the same price in this configuration (Leica is still twice the price as are their accessories) a future buyer can wonder which is the best for him. You address points that are not too much discussed by others but are far important : the lens. True that in terms of bokeh the Leica due to its f1.7 instead of f3.0 is the winner here, the way of using it in manual mode and the fact that a 28-35-50:is for me far more versatile than a 35-50-75 ff equivalent for a point and shoot camera. It s just a pitty you don’t t share the same images / subject with the 2 cameras and the apple basket would have been a good comparison. Then you have what I call the secondary functions : videos, Fuji film simulation, quantity of buttons to quickly customise your body. I say secondaries because I don’t t think you buy these cameras for video, film simulation is funny but no more and buttons… no comments :). If you want buttons buy a Sony … and don t forget how you assign them :))). Then the third functions : optical adapters for Fuji are just useless so forget them. Finally the look … it’s quite personnal and the fact that the Fuji is bicolor probably attires more than the uniform black and for me I prefer to be discrete :). So for me in conclusion if you have the money and want the best for your pictures buy the Leica, of course it s too expensive but it’s a jewel and give you a l’or of pleasure to photograph, if you don t have the money and a 35 mm is enough for you buy the Fuji which is probably very well even if a little less good.

I own the x100v and the Q3. So own both now. The thing with Leica is that the lenses retain full image quality even with wide open aperture. That gives the beautiful dof in combination with the dynamic range where pure blacks can be had together with pure white or even blown out parts. And of course the mind blowing sharpness. In comparison the Fuji files wil always be flat when holding next to each other. Even Sony is left behind in this. I'll probably sell my Fuji as I didn't use it since I have the Q3.

However, last year, I phoned Fujifilm repair center in New-Jersey to get my X100S cleaned, and to replace the display which was still working but with a small scratch. Hi Tobis Thanks for the video, however I have trouble understanding why you took the trouble to make such a long video comparing two cameras, deciding that one is preferable primarily based on the "look" of the photos, and yet made no effort to show side by side examples so that viewers can actually see what you're talking about.
This allows viewers to infer that the 'special' look may be illusory, or a kind of "emperor's new clothes" effect to help Leica buyers justify their significant $$ outlay.
Surely any review of two cameras which lacks side-by-side comparative photos is fundamentally flawed?
Any comments on this would be much appreciated.

I’m actually finding autofocus on my X100VI in any mode to be quite horrible. Whilst the green boxes that you see may indicate that the camera has acquired focus and locked on to the subject, closer inspection of the images after the fact show otherwise. I’m left with many of my images mostly front focused, resulting in soft and blurry images which is an absolute deal breaker for me.
I’m really hoping that this is something that is happening to everyone else too because that would at least tell me that it isn’t a QC issue with my camera and will be something that FUJIFILM can fix in a firmware update.
Additionally, I don’t think this lens is actually resolving the full 40MP of this sensor. I’m finding that even with those photos where focus is good, the resolution does not seem to be 40MP. I think the lens is this camera’s biggest bottleneck to truly getting the best of this sensor.
I really want to love this camera, but so far, this issue is a real deal breaker for me.
I’ve previously owned a Q2 and sold it a year ago, and I’m now thinking of going back to it.

some technical info here: there is no objectively quantifiable “leica look”, leica lenses are different in focal lengths, max aperture, blade style, number of elements, coating- body wise they’ve used different sensors from different sources throughout time, and before that of course anyone’s choice of film. so whatever “leica look” is, isn’t talking about bokeh, distortion, color- it can’t possibly because it’s always different. however, what leica lenses are known for is reliable sharpness, reliable clarity, depth separation color separation- that’s why you always take the Q, cuz it’s a dependable lens coupled with a full frame sensor in a body that’s fun for you to use. to the x100’s credit, i’ve got a recipe on mine that has the “leica look” color and clarity- it comes close but not as close as my olympus with the same recipe + an actual Leica 28mm attached. the x100’s focus ring is a mystery to me why they didn’t include a similar analog-experience ring after 6 generations of this camera. an analogish by-wire focus ring is not uncommon, some of fuji’s interchangeable lenses have such a feature and even olympus has a few. i’m not sure why x100 didn’t include that functionality

@@Viewtolove yeah sure- but as a note, this is based specifically off the leica Q 116's vivid profile.
      provia standard / grain off / color chrome weak / chrome fx off / smooth skin off / white balance auto -R2 +B2 / dynamic range DR400 @800 ISO / highlight -2 / shadows 0 / color +3 / sharpness +1 / noise reduction -4 / clarity +2
i personally liked the leica Q's vivid mode so i bumped up the color saturation- but if you prefer the standard saturation just knock the color down a bit to your liking. the key to the look is the sharpness and clarity to compensate for the fuji glass's shortcoming compared to the leica Q's glass. in the end, the results in my findings were too close to tell especially in general sunny scenarios.

If you know the Leica lenses prices (which are insane everybody admits it), This body is given with the Q (2k€) , not so expensive for the Q2 2nd hand and a little expensive for the Q3 new. If you loose the fast aperture you 50% of it… and if you listen carefully to this video it s the lense and its aperture which blow away the Fuji… so bad idea imo.

If the x100vi got a 18mm… the question would not exist. Fuji made a stupid error not taking benefit of the 40mpix sensor to do so. This x100vi - 18mm would have been a Q2 killer… so let’s wait for the x100vii ;)

Not at all. One of the things that I love the most about the X100 series cameras is the focal length of 23mm (35mm FF equivalent). If you really want the wider look, you can get the wide adapter, but since this is meant to be an all around camera and especially one that you can also take portraits on, 23mm is perfect, at least for me.

    • @skipper4114

If Fuji was smart they would have not rushed this camera out. They should have put the newer battery in. Who cares if the camera was a few millimeters thicker. Also they should have kept the d-pad like the older versions. The joystick is a joke. Plus they should have gave consumers an option of a 28 mm and a 35 mm. The wide angle adapter is bulky and it’s a pain to have to remove parts to install a bulky lens. Glad I sold my X100V to fund my Q3.

      @philmtx3fr Місяць тому +1

@@skipper4114 I agree on all points my main point being the lens and the choice of 28 or 35 is probably the best ( like what Ricoh did). If you have a 2nd hand site where the Q3 is at the same price as the x100v don t hesitate to share :).

The Q2/Q3 image quality is astonish. I don’t have the X100VI, but I own a X-T5 and I feel a lot of difference in image quality when compared to my Q3.
However, the fujis are undeniably a joy to use.

i went from a Fuji x100V to a Q3 in sept. i really didnt want to like the Q3.. i bought it from a place that had a really good return policy, so I thought i'd give it 30 days. i miss the joystick to move the focus point on the back.. but other than than that.. the Q3 is a far superior camera.. (it better be for the price)
but if you are a day time shooter.. that wants a fun simple powerful camera.. you cant go wrong with an X100. but the Q3 blows away the X100 in terms of low light and focusing speed.. and the leica lens.. it really is something special.

    • @bsmayerr
      @bsmayerr Місяць тому +1

      @@dmille6 Totally agree.
There’s something special about the Leica images. I’m very skeptical when it comes to “Leica look” in the digital world.
However, the images that come out of the Q3 are much superior. That 60mp sensor on the Leica is outstanding and that Leica glass resolves beautifully. No matter what a try, I’m not able to get the same sharpness and colors on the X-T5. It’s still a joy to use, but not quite there compared to the Leica.
