  • In this video, I am giving you the run down on my thoughts when it comes to getting started kayak fishing. Contrary to what many may believe I am not going to tell you what you have to have when it comes to accessories to get started. In fact, I am going to tell you don't need it all to get started.

I made a comment on another youtuber's channel about his beginner kayak setup, a Hobie $2000 dollar "basic" angler. He came back saying he made enough money to afford it and if I was too poor to afford it it wasn't his fault. It is refreshing to see someone guiding newbies and telling them that they only need a kayak, poles and tackle and the desire to have fun and catch fish. Thanks brother!

Amen brother. I believe that the way to success and enjoyment in any facet is to start with the basics, grow your skill and then once you have found confidence in yourself and your tools, expand on it. Rinse and repeat. With that being said, I hope to have a SS127 tied to the roof of my jeep come this fall. Thank you for you honesty and advice. Keep on being Knot right.

It's true, my first yak was 150 bucks from Menards and I caught tons and tons of fish. Still have that yak and I still use for spots that are difficult to launch the 13 foot yak I use now,. If you have a Menards and want to get into Kayak fishing the Viper is a good starting spot.

Man, love your outlook on this sport. I'm an amateur angler looking to someday get into a basic kayak and get on the water. Guys like me need that encouragement to just do the best you can and enjoy it. I'll be fishing from the bank for now but still, great content. With my newborn daughter, I don't get many opportunities to fish, but I love every second.

it always blows my mind how many people get butthurt by sponsored content....dude that's the reason that most of these people are able to do what they do...and if they don't promote the companies and gear that are supporting them the sport will not grow. sorry for the random tangent, great stuff Chad keep the content coming!

I've gone through 4 china reels that aren't worth the shipping to get it to me... I've also wasted money on the big names not standing behind their product when it broke. It's hard to make a sound investment in fishing lately. Too many predatory, short-sighted companies.

Hello Chad and greetings from Ireland. First of all I'd like to commend u on a very informative channel for all your fellow bass anglers stateside. Good on you...well done! I have a query with u regarding the ATAK 140. I am foremost a flyangler + the odd bit of lure and when I eventually purchase a kayak I plan to use it for both freshwater lakes and the salt. So at the moment my choice of kayak is the atak 140. But recently I read several bad reviews on them regarding the amount of water entering the hull which I found very surprising. Several of the paddlers regretted buying the boat and maintained the main culprit was the stern hatch. Consequently it was given the thumbs down as an offshore boat. They also stated that the os pod also took in water which totally defeats the purpose which it was designed for. I was deflated to read these cons as it seems an ideal flyfishing vessel with the open deck and all. You wouldn't expect to see such negative comments in connection with a company as reputable as WS. I personally don't see how the rear hatch could let in any water never mind enough that could possibly sink a boat. I would be very interested to hear your take on these reviews. Could you also let me know if wilderness have any plans to drain the tool area to the hull. This is a very valid crib to be fair. Thanks for all the tips / info and keep up the great work. Hoping to hear back from u. Tight lines, Brian

One thing I would recommend is to get a kayak with a nice comfortable seat if you can afford it. The first one I had only had one of those pads for a seat and I sold it the first summer because I couldnt stand being in it for very long. Killed my back. And if you cant afford a new kayak like that you can find very nice used ones on craigslist and save some money.
