How can you not love ZZ Top. Who turned me on to them well before Eliminator was release? Well it was Jimmy Lea of Slade who wrote about them in the Slade fanzine. So I bought Tejas on spec, on vinyl and never looked back. Dived in to the back catalogue in the early 80's all on vinyl and then along comes Eliminator and since then ZZ Top have had ongoing success. Also got that and various singles on vinyl and it all still plays really well as a lot was put on tape for convenience - so not badly worn out. Elwood fits in with the silliness of the band but also the serious tight musicianship which is a fantastic combination for any group to have. Superb.
I saw these guys in salt lake city, I don't know what I was expecting. l have seen zz top several times and Dusty was the man. I must say Elwood stepped up and he kicks ass and it was Dusty's wish that Elwood should take his place in the band. Too cool.

Billy is an absolutely consummate performer. The dude could rock a nursing home. Possibly the literal coolest rock star of all time. Has anybody ever been cooler than Billy? He has always adapted but yet he has really never compromised. That's a serious accomplishment in and of itself.
Totally agree!!! Billy is the kind of giant that walks among us just as a normal person, but he is not, he is a music monster, an ancient god of blues/boogie/rock older than the Universe. And cooler than the two Poles in midwinter.

I've seen ZZ top a few times over the years. I wasn't sure if I wanted to see them again without Dusty. After watching this video I'll be attending the show in Laughlin in a couple months. Can't wait now.
Apparently, no one in my family has ever seen ZZ Top live. They've had the privilege to meet all sorts of people and watch them perform live. I will say, going to their show at the Louisville Palace has opened up my musical tastes to all genres they performed! I only knew 3 of the mainstream songs. I knew Dusty did his last show at Iroquois, and Elwood has a band based in Lexington... But dang, Elwood does a great job! Can't replace Dusty on vocals, or bass (don't get me wrong, Elwood does it right, but Dusty did it his way) but he keeps the beat down with Frank Beard! I sadly never saw Dusty, but at least I saw the remaining half.
