Wonder if they’re still playing because they love playing or because they have bills to pay - and/or have a crew that depends on them touring to pay their bills. Maybe it’s both. Like how all of the dead shows I saw toward the end of their touring went on with Jerry strung out and in poor health - no one was going to stop the money train long enough to help Jerry get clean, which would have taken way too long and sobriety wasn’t something he seemed to want to do. Just a thought. ZZ deserves respect for a lot of things they don’t get credit for. Including the fact that they look younger now than they did in the 1980s on MTV
It appears that you were probably about 10 rows back, good range sonically. Close enough for mostly just stage amps (the sound the band hears, with minimal amount of stadium sound system distortion) A few times people in front of you stood up and dampened your sound quality & blocked the view a little, but you got really lucky with this. I used to work with concert facilities in Florida and have been back stage with the bands and roadies probably 40-50 times. Back stage with ZZ Top 3 times. (Great Buffets) My hat is off to you.
What on earth is that thing the bassist plays on the first song ? It looks like a gimmick especially as he seems to use only one string from the top and two from the bottom of that weird contraption.

I realize ZZ is popular. I've played in many bands over the past 60 years and am very familiar with being on stage and stage presence. ZZ has put a lot of thought into stage presence From what I've heard, the drummer really only needs 1 bass, 2 toms, that phat snare and 2 cymbals (at most) and of course, that much used hihat. The drummers platform ads a nice touch with the rows of zzzzzzzzz's across the bottom. He's been playing this for so long, his mind goes into auto pilot and is possibly thinking about that second helping of mashed potatoes he had for dinner 2 hours earlier. The multi-stringed bass is a nice gimmick for the opening song. But, hey, it's entertainment and I give them an A+ for that!
