I wish these documentaries got more views. Most Western sources are intensely biased when it comes to China, but this video really speaks to the experiences of real Chinese people, which is important for people to hear.
When she said the North needs to catch up to south eastern coastal cities in terms of heavy manufacturing... this type of self reflection and direction of future progress is why I believe China’s growth will continue to rise
I was wondering why I love CNA documentaries, and now I understand that it's because they actually speak to individual people on the ground from different parts of society. In this case, it makes me appreciate Chinese people more.
Came across these documentary by accident and stayed on to watch all 4 episodes! Very insightful and balance view of the age old question of development benefits vs the associated cost
A fascinating journey revealing the uniqueness and creativity of Chinese post modern development. This includes the ability of Young Chinese to evolve and develop the integration of computer technology into their innovative Ideas. Thanks for the views and thoughts of those who shared their experiences.
This is my home province, Liaoning, china’s “rusty belt”. My family members, friends, classmates were all experienced the economical transitions, just like the guys in the beer house. painful, hopeless, and struggling. This is even worse than the rust belt in the US in term of severity , but China as a whole economy is getting stronger, meanwhile the mentality of Chinese makes it very different - work hard, don’t give up, things will change. NE China is still in the pain, however they will eventually come back.
I like your optimism. I think once China finishes work on Economic Progress in Xinjiang and Tibet and Central China they will heavily focus on revitalizing the Dongbei provinces
This is an excellent documentary. I am very interested in the lives of ordinary Chinese people and how China’s development has changed their lives. Thanks
that old painter is right. China has to copy first, not just in art, but in other fields also so that it can gain the skills to express its innate capabilities. There are a lot of very innately intelligent Chinese people who grew up poor and with no education. They have to learn how to walk before they can run.
Too bad they've been trying to copy hollywood for 30 years and still the movie industry is producing only high budgeted propaganda movies that need to sell milions of tickets to break even.
I think he means... because they have not done art before, or know the basic painting techniques... they have to learn. But in reality, maybe the painting techniques saved the souls of these men ? Cos it does earn them a living.. And there are a lot of people who are dignified as well... like Ai Wei Wei.. The question is whether what actually happens with the rest of the population ? Who sacrificed their lives? And I now see how disintegrated the entire system is ??? A lot of "losers" as I see it.... This is crazy, is it not ???
"Copy" is just another word for "Learning" IMO. The word "Copy" or "Patent stealing" is used for China freely but does not appear on corporate espionage among Western companies even though they do the exact same thing e.g. Japan, Germany & GM copied Henry Ford's car assembly line for mass production. Copying is the sincerest form of flattery, China admits to learning from the west but the west will never admit learning from the east or copying their inventions.
@@azmodanpc how many Chinese current movies have you watched? There are many Chinese movies are quite unique, with China long history and rich cultures, many movies are unique without western counterparts match
Amazing documentary. I especially loved how pragmatic the painters were and how cool it is that so many people are realizing their dreams. China has become the land of opportunity.
I believe in Chinas ability to adapt and change and that is really the essence of this 5000year old civilisation and she will continue to progress to lead the world!
whant an excellent documentary! life is not easy but we chinese are Optimistic, practical and diligent! improve and develop our country as possibly as we can. we deserve everyone's respect!
One of the best documentaries on China I have watched with close interaction and reaction with ordinary Chinese just trying to build a better life vs Western biased and anti China rhetoric
I appreciate this writer’s,journalist sharing and revelations about average, everyday normal people’s lives and the beauty and tragic problems many developing societies have to confront, hope she makes more videos
Thank you CNA for this documentary! It's wonderful peeking into the lives of ordinary citizens and allowing them to tell their own stories. I was especially impressed with the older men who were laid off. They didn't choose to blame everyone, but instead chose to move into other jobs, my generation can really learn from these people.
You're right; another way to express it is that US is an individualistic society, China is a communal one. One can last thousands of years; the other not so much.
And in EU they want to clone US, actually both are the same blob now, run by few super rich. I lost trust on the west, actually one just need to read history.
I don't know if CNA has a Chinese channel or not on any Chinese platforms, but UA-cam is definitely accessible in China, so many people will probably just watch it on here.
This is why Chinese will thrive on everything. They don’t care what it is they will make it theirs. America, learn from their tenacity. Their people are trained in a lots of things that the world can’t imagine.
If you are a westerner. You are qualified to complain like that. If you are not, tell me a path to success that you can use in those least developed countries. At least ccp succeeded. This is hope.

Hope the Chinese government takes air pollution seriously, or it will end up with many people with respiratory and lung diseases, thus a huge medical problem affecting millions, why not invest in forcing factories, smelters, refineries to invest in air cleaning, purification filters to lower the pollutants to a safe level, it’s a situation of pay now for better health or pay more later for a sick incapacitated populace
Hardly western propaganda, idiot. Western propaganda relentlessly sabotages, attacks, and tarnishes the reputation of hard working China relentlessly. This is the complete opposite. And it's also a mainstream media outlet funded by the Singaporian government. A country full of first and second generation hard-working chinese expatriates. You obviously know nothing about politics or journalism on a global level to be making such absurd claims.
