8:44 To explain that Blue's Mentality, I shall point towards the item description of the Distinguished great shield. "Due to their excessive size, these shields were at times seen as the hallmark of little lordlings who were too timid to earn a few nicks and scratches."
For reference btw, in case you didn't know (you didn't use it in the video), The Blacksteel Greathammer has a different deflect animation if you're 1-handing and using a shield. You still get the wave after the fact, but it's an uppercut attack instead so could be a fun mixup
BSGH and greatshield is a surprisingly fun playstyle with the deflect tear. I’ve never liked shields except as parry tools or fashion accessories, but with the deflect tear a greatshield actually feels skillful and dynamic to use. I ran a Paladin Leeroy cosplay while helping people out with the Putrescent Knight for an entire evening and had a great time with it. That uppercut is dope.
this is exactly the stuff that happens to me testing a speciality build but i’m the type that’ll freeze up too if they’re not playing into what i’m trying 😂
I appreciate the increase in editing effort put into the intros, both the clips of future fights you've been doing in other episodes, and what we've seen here- showing what items do, and little clips of what looks like your testing of the different weapons whenever what you're talking about needs an actual target to show it off.
funny thing about this hammer; its guard counter "bullet" receives holy weapon buffs (despite what the spreadsheet says). So Sacred Blade adds +90 to the weapon and +90 to the bullet. Or you could do a Heavy infusion and invest a bit of faith and int to use Order Blade instead. At bare minimum stats, a finger seal gives +101 to each. And it'll obviously go higher the more you invest. The highest you can go is +265 each at 80 faith.
Chase you can perfect deflect every damage tick on dragon breath, it’s insane. You can completely out skill gankers and totally shut them down. I’ve had hosts pull the plug before I even killed their phantoms just because they realized they could not damage me even with ranged cheese. Unless I’m doing some super specific build, like maximized multi-attacks or something, deflecting tears *stays loaded.*
Not sure if you knew, but you don't have to trigger the guard counter (the counter attack) to get the bonus damage stacks. The stack is just from getting the perfect guard that the tear gives you. You can for instance deflecting each hit in a muiltihit attack string, and then trigger a guard counter will give you the 60% or 80% bonus. Also the perfect guard mechanic is 100% phys negation, 75% all elemental (you can perfect guard spells), 65% stamina loss reduction (on top of the guard boost stat). Besides this weapon it can help Milady out a lot. The guard counter is the R2 2 swing attack that moves you forward a lot. It seems fairly decent to me.
YES, PvP 2-handed guard counters! I've wanted to see Chase do this since the original ER reveal trailers where we saw Tarnished 2-hand guard countering with a Claymore, but it wasn't truly viable until the lovely Deflection Hardtear. This is a good day.
The bigger problem is how slow it is. It also has/had basicaly no hyperarmor when ER came out, so you would either get dodged or interrupted 99% of the time. Not to mention the loud noise the game does to make sure your opponent knows you're doing a guard counter doesn't help at all.
@@ChaseTheBro np! I found out about it when I was using it at a much lower level. Damage went from 47 to 140 after the Sacred Blade. Certainly took me by surprise lol
I love extra bits on attacks in Souls games. I used to poorly use the Stone Greataxe in DS1, with it's big ground eruption, dying to 10 thousand backstabs when I committed too hard lol. I even made it a point to PVP with the Amygdala Arm in Bloodborne because the R2, if you held it, would pin and then claw at the ground twice catching sometimes if not just doing extra damage. I've only touched a good about of the base game of Elden Ring so far, but I'll be damn happy to try out this weapon for sure when I get the DLC down the line! Awesome video
“A torch made by attaching a dying flame of frenzy to a small spinal column. In a distant land, in an age long past, was born a man who failed to become the Lord of Frenzied Flame. All that remains of him is cradled gently by Nanaya.” -The description of a torch you should really use
Woah the info you've been giving on your vids has gotten so much better. Showing where to get tears, explanations, little showcases of the ability or damage you're talking about. Thanks so much for your fun vids~
You should try out different weapons to combo with an off hand dueling shield. I have been messing around with them and it's fantastic having one on off hand with the shield strike ash. It lets you use the light dueling shield chain instead of a conventional AoW. I have been having a blast and been really messing people up in invasions with Dueling shield on off and Smithscript Cirque on right hand. Bachhand blades in general flow incredibly well with Dueling shields allowing for really quick and easy shield strikes, allowing you to use their blocking attacks and follow up with back hand blade attacks with ease. Gives you some pretty overwhelming pressure. I have them both on a pure faith build and they both hit like trucks. Also being able to shield strike while wield my talisman is awesome
The Greatshield talisman works wonders with this setup also, this was actually the way I completed the entire DLC. From the moment I looted this until I downed Radahn, Guard-Counters and Savage Lion Claw was the only thing I did, haha. Also with 60 faith you would be much better off using Order Blade incant instead of Sacred Blade, even with low Str. That way you could have a better Ash than sacred blade equipped.
hey chase just wanted to say ive loved your content for a long time and im grateful for the work you put into these videos because it shows!! keep up the great work man
Really different build, with the guard counters. Would love to see more normal guard counter builds, as well as more deflecting tear action. Love your vids!
Nice, my new baby got some love ! Enjoying this thing a lot on my faith build so far. Never considered using it 2-handed (the shield-block guard counter is different but also good) but I had no idea the reflecting tear has a FIVE minutes timer. I gotta try that shit out ! ^^ Also, yeah, give Faith some tries. Most new incants suck, though some (e.g. the multi-lighning-spear, the holy buzz saw, the Messmer Genkidama) are pretty nice - and there are some nice faith weapons, too. I love the Fire Knight´s Greatsword flame art infused. Lots of good stuff !
Bearer of the torch Seek madness. Unhinged, more fiery madness. Seek the host, that is the only way. Lest the wizards swallow you whole... As it has so many others.
I absolutely love deflecting tear. Feel super naked without it. I kinda would rather it be a talisman than a temp buff with how much of a playstyle change it is
Guard counters are quite fun. I enjoy learning the poise break points and it ads a new way to approach boss fights. Like people forget that many ultra G swords have 80% absorbtion and reasonable stability. Then some 20% of the 80% for armour and then a further 20% of that 20% with boiled crab. I dont know the math but it does result in respectable defence. :)
Thats how they pronounce it often in dragon ball english dub when they themselves are not doing the attack lol (ka may a may a wave) I find it faster than saying the ka me ha me ha in a quick sentence.
This hammer represents a missed opportunity. Guard counter is the single most unique new combat ability introduced in ER, yet there is only one wp in the whole game (which is only introduced in the dlc) that has a guard counter special. There should have been one for every wp types
Sacred Blade is my new favorite ash, and it's perfect with this hammer. 80% of people I fought in the arena never dodged it or miss the dodge somehow. Probably because they think it wouldn't reach them.

They had such a good weapon too, that katana absolutely rips. And it’s relatively difficult to deflect its combo perfectly.

You can deflect anything chase, in case you didn’t know. You take chip from elemental sources, but it gets lessened in succession.
