Can't ever imagine a real swordsman doing this, because there is a saying about the two people a swordsman fears the most - the master, and the novice. Being that beginners tend to erratic and unpredictable things, so who is to say he is going to attempt to parry your strike instead of just suicidally thrusting forward, killing you and possibly killing himself.

Some you need to stream but it is very easy to watch every one of them for free if you don't mind ripping off production companies. And if they are careful they can be hard to distinguish from the guys who are just hard disciplinarians. Ned Fisk was a poor fencer so drilling him mercilessly would be appropriate and if Bent could keep the gloating he got out of it to a minimum, he could get away with it.

Fisk was a poor rider and swordsman. Ten years later he was a cavalry major in the Union Army. Shiloh, Corinth, Chickamauga and Atlanta all under his belt. He nearly torched the Maines plantation but reneged and came up with an excuse when he found out it was Orys home.

As a lifelong, graceful & perfected dancer such swordplay undoubtedly came naturally to Patrick Swayze, as no doubt he learned quickly & easily. For basic dancing techniques can be smoothly channeled into all forms & styles of swordplay, as it's a natural conversion for which Swayze was intrinsically equipped & gifted. Great scene!

Why not just "accidently" cut off a couple of his fingers. People don't tend to guard their arms and hands as much when fencing and weapon sparring. If you can't hold a weapon you can't fight. If you can't move properly you are at a great disadvantage. Little cuts add up real fast in a fight.
