- Godlike Genius Dave Grohl invites us into his home studio to see where he produced the latest Foo Fighters album. Find out how weird tea and chicken noodles keep him going, and how he gets a Toys R Us drumkit to sound like Led Zeppelin.

Just about to quote that.
Dave Grohl....a man of a thousand words...and every one of them is "f* ck".
C'mon, give the bloke a break. He went 34 seconds with dropping the f bomb...
He's from a punk rock background dude. He was in Nirvana. As he said. "come on, I was in fuckin nirvana dude."

Ned Bately Episcally in BezzleBoss
+Ned Bately hes kinda trying too hard to say it. he kinda forces it.
"The vocals sound too slick, fuck em up a bit more!" Dave. Fucking legend
still sounds slick
I love how he goes from “I was in Fuckin nirvana dude” to “these are for my kids 😇”
"...a shitty Toys R Us plastic drum set that, in this room, sounded like a FUCKING Led Zeppelin record..."
We love you Dave.
I love how he's a regular dad...popsicles in the freezer...this shows you how he really is...not a fake like most other musicians...he's genuine, and for that..kudos
Ohhh wow he’s got popsicles so he must be soo real...
2:39 Come on Dave. We know those are your Scribblers. You can't hide the truth!
Champagne..C'mon I was in Nirvana, dude.
Hahahah
"I was in fuckin Nirvana dude" imagine you can say that and it´s fucking true!
We recorded to tape....Then compressed the hell out of the album during mastering so it sounds like every other record. Cool!
@Ghost Heart in your dreams
The new album is the best sounding album I've ever heard, that garage and equipment is magical, as are the musicians that made it
I don't even like FF that much but I love this fucking guy.
You got bad taste and should stfu and not comment
Champagne. Come on, I was in FUCKING Nirvana Dude! hahaha Fucking Genius. Rock on Dave!
This needs to be renamed "Dave grohl is better than you, here's why"

I love seeing all these comments from 10 years ago. This was and still is my favorite FOOS record of all time. PS I have a copy with a slice of the master tape in it.
I love that he used a tape, and I love the new song..."rope". I thought it sounded more like their old stuff...can't wait for their new album to come out.
once again i find myself watching videos on Dave Grohl
"I was in fucking nirvana dude" haha love him so much
"Doing it here really made it sound great...uh...the end"

I LOVE HIS SWEARING AND I LOVE HIM HES SO AMAZING

Dave Grohl is just awesome. It's pretty badass Dave shows us how he put out the record inside his own home. THe garage tour was also just freaking awesome. I love this guy
How to make a platinum selling album- 4:42 lol
Que pedazo de banda!!! Gira por suramerica x favor... en Argentina los estamos esperando hace años...!
I love this guy !!!
Wow. Amazed! Congrats Dave!
"It's like free-basing tea." He really seems like a very approachable, level headed guy. And yeah, Tejava is AWESOME
Im so pleased for Dave, sounds like he had a great time making a brilliant sounding record at home!
Most rock stars expect big studios with endless gear as part of the 'job' but Mr Grohl has proven that a few well chosen quality bits of equipment, a bit of patience and experimentation and lots of rehersal can beat other productions hands down.
Fantastic!!!
That’s so cool! I record this big drum kit in my one room studio. Great video Dave!
One of most fav bands ever.
Dave is right..before I found out they record oldschool, I would say to myself how they sound like their record- live. They keep it real so they can give, us fans, a real concert! I heart Dave Grohl and his fresh pots!
Excellent! Beautiful testimony! Your history is amazing! Congrats Dave! ⚽👍🎸☮️
I love the little pink tricycle in the background...
How cool is that!
Saw the foos at Auckland town hall, new record rocks fukin hard! Thanks for helpin Chch out guys!
The vocals sound to slick, fuck em up a bit. I love it!!!
I love that dave does this album on analog tape, because nowadays almost every band that gets a new album out has the same sound on every song. If you for example take a look on led zeppelins houses of the holy where every song has a unique sound. So recording on analog tape really promotes the preformance of the artist/band and creates that unique sound. So i think this album gonna be fucking great.
Love the vintage bicycle! I had a purple one just like it with a banana seat!
There is NOTHING to dislike about Dave Grohl
Love him! He's brilliant
One thing that I love the most in this video is that little pink bike. Yeah..a godlike genius knows how to be a good dad.
dude Dave is just amazing,no matter what u'll say. He has so much energy and his voice is just fcking amazing.
I Lmao'ed at that "the end" + smile x)
Truly a serious bad ass musician. Keep it up Grohl!
Yes you can actually edit a tape recording into a DAW. It's called either using clasp endless analogue system.. or using an AD/DA converter to import the tape 24 tracks to your computer making the edit there and then porting them back out to the 2inch tape machine (which is basically the same as the clasp system.
"The vocals sound a little bit too slick.Fuck em up a little bit more"
HAHA love Dave!!
I wish my band could record in Dave Grohl's garage with him:L .The new albums amazing.
Watching this cause I wanted to see his guitars
Free basing tea....i love it!!!
This is so dope
Genius! Dave is so cool also... He is amazingly talented!!
I used to edit for the public library the films that were part of the real to real library. What I had to do was splice the film pieces together in the areas where for whatever reason they broke. This was in 1976, so i really do appreciate this conversation of yours. I get it.
Hello from Springfield Virginia 👍👍👍
this man. this man right here. THE boss. every musician should do this. take a break from the big studio. a7x did the same thing after the rev passed, they retreated to the garage. not for the actual recording, and they had far more up-to-date equipment... but they took a step back from the fame and fortune and looked at what they had left from their roots and regrouped. a7g, dave, you have all earned my utmost respect
I would honestly listen to a song with Dave just swearing on it. He swears with so much emphasis. Its FUCKING amazing!
Beautiful motorbikes in the background at the begining
Great!
the vocals sound too slick, fuck them up a little!! dave you crack me up
I am not biased towards either, both have their pros and cons but only 1 of these techniques truely captures 100% of the detail of what is being played.
I used to love taped editing. My home studio is my minivan at the moment util I get my main studio (Studio 41) up and running.
WOW!!!!
ssss...the end :D... haha cant wait for the album!!!!
@imagimotion I agree with you on both Dave and Will I am and especially on autotune crap. But "Wasting light" is their 1st album they did on tape, they built the studio at Dave's home for this. All previous albums were ProTools.
Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of tape and the unpolished sound it creates/demands, but all their previous albums were "digital" ones and they are great as well
It's not really what you use, but how you use it.
But yes, Dave ROCKS and sets the bar for musicianship
Dave proved he is the real deal because of the methodology chosen for recording this record. \m/
yeah i guess you could say i recorded it in my garage if you don't count the 800 grand worth of outbourd gear.
Dave for President!
Ooohhh Bethesda Maryland. I am about 2 hours from there.
the pink bike in the background
I love the first and second ff albums. I don´t care if I didnt like the last.... I always admire dave grohl because he was the drummer of nirvana, he played with kurt cobain and he is a monster drummer.... period.
It's funny he's talking about his badass rock album with the pink tricycle in the background lol! Dave's a cool guy.
@EndeChayer3 woulda been nice if the band played live together in the garage, and allowed some leakage. As it was, Butch stifled the garage sound aesthetic with insulation and tracking most of the instruments separately.
One of the main differences between analogue and digital to my understanding is resolution. For example a photograph taken on an SLR film camera that is developed in a bath gives 100% of the image. An image photographed on a digital SLR camera has a quality dependance on the captured resolution, It is made up of pixels, lots of little blocks. So a curve in the image or sound spectrum will be a smooth curve in analogue wheras in digital it will look like a staircase.
@imagimotion So true, dude. Thank you Dave for keeping it real! True talent doesn't require ProTools or Auto Tune.
I cannot fuckin wait for this record.
God dude this guy is such a fucking great musician. Phenomenal in every process of making a song and album. The highest respect I have for Mr. Growl. I hope to be as talented as him one day.

@imagimotion and @Usethebanana. Alright, let me geek out a bit here. Correct about Colour and the first album being tape (and first album vinyl sounds fantastic). The "making of" video for Nothing Left to Lose, which was done in some kind of ad hoc home studio of Dave's in Virginia, showed a tape machine (probably the same one here). One by One, according to the documentary, was redone at home- and I think Taylor mentioned they started tape and dumped to minimal ProTools. Interviews/google etc.
hahah I fuckin' love his "I was in Nirvana" attitude
I fucking love Dave Grohl
that is a gorgeous Neve
"The vocals sound too slick. Fuck em up" . This is why why I love Dave LMFAO
1:35 nice bike Dave ;)
the vocals sounds too slick.. fuck em up alittle... haha.. gotta love dave
I really enjoyed the sound of Wasting Light, very real, very human
Wow It works....Finally!
that's cool that he still has that diy attitude
This has has lived a great life...
"C'mon, I was in fuckin' Nirvana, dude." LOL
4:43 - "the vocals sound too slick. Fuck em up a little bit more." LOL dave is so awesome
This Part Killi'n me XDDDDD
Dave: "there is like haha fuc*in popsicles for my kids
Recording and mastering digitally, transferring to tape then re transferring to digital would sound different to recording and mastering straight onto tape then converting to digital. But I think the biggest reason they chose tape wasn't the inherant sound, rather the fact that there will be slight human imperfections in the playing and mastering lost in digital recording
@HADLOW286 ....is that a giant poster of veruca salt i see at 4:23.....behind his daisy rock guitar.
I grew up listening to Foo figters
Total fucking legend!
@imagimotion I do see where you're coming from and I agree to some extent. When I had access I used to track to 24 track tape and mix on an old AMEK console which sounded really lovely. I love analogue and I love the philosophy the Foo Fighters have used on this album. Music is a product, however, that is created to be sold, especially in the pop world. A lot of people don't understand it and currently, people like the sound of autotune as an effect. Skill is irrelevant, the product is key.
Ich mag DAVE GROHL!!!
"The vocals sound to slick... quick, fuck them up a little!" - Dave is a God
