I’ve had the MT07 for just over a year. I bought it for personal and financial reasons, all of which have now changed. Not to say that it’s a bad bike, but it’s a bike that no longer does what I want or need. So, it’s time to go and get a “for sale by owner” sticker.
It’s been a heck of a sport bike, a perfect little hyper naked, but its performance is not what I’m looking for now in life. It’s a great bargain from Yamaha, just like the Suzuki GSX 8Sand Honda Hornet 750 (I think, because it’s not sold in Japan). To be fair, the Triumph Trident 660 and KTM 790 Duke would also be great choices. I know the next owner will love this bike like I did, maybe learn to wheelie, maybe make it a perfect little track bike with the ZARD exhaust, ebc brakes, and hyper pro and kyb suspension. But now, I’ll say my goodbyes.
What’s next for the channel? Is it the KtM 790 Adventure? The Honda Transalp 750? Or something else? It’s definitely a more adv style bike, but you’ll have to stay tuned to see what happens.

My Hornet 750 is very similar in that regard to your MT-07. I call it the hooligan class of bikes. Just so fun and snappy.

I have an SV650 and I really don't need any more power than what it offers. I do wish it had cruise control. When I think about getting a different bike, it would probably be the XSR900, since it has cruise control. I've tried different throttle locks, but find them to be too dangerous. The reason I still have my SV is because I don't do enough long distance riding to justify switching bikes. That and SV is such a great bike.

Mccruise for vstrom 650 might be able to be fitted to the sv🤔
at the begining i was a bit sad about the theme of the video(just another youtuber changing bikes every month or so),but in the end,the philosophical part ..bravo! hope you actually find what you are looking for in your next bike! :)

The MT07 is missing a lot of features. Even ABS was optional until 2021 or something like that.
It's kind of an uncut gem.
The engine is great but everything else is just average or could be improved.
The on-off throttle is janky, the gearbox snappy, the suspension is kinda bouncing and rolling off the throttle it has a lot of resistance
That’s all true. Yamaha should have fixed it all years ago. I had mine remapped to smooth out the throttle, and I upgraded the suspension. It’s not the typical old dudes’ bike (I’m 60) but I bought it with the head not the heart. Established reliability, parts easily available, light enough to wheel it round the shed, no electronic gimmicks, and I like the engine braking. It’s sold as a hooligan bike but it isn’t bad for general purpose stuff if you think of it as more of a plasticky Sportster.
I know you are not a triumph guy, but you really ought to give the '24 tiger 900 a go. Engine is absolute sex and it has all the comforts. Personally I'm still in love with the Scrambler 1200xe (sold the MT07 after 3 months - just wasn't for me).
In Japan the tiger is a 40% price increase to the ktm and Honda. We only get the gt or rally pro. No standard rally.
If we move out of Japan I would 100% have bought the tiger. But I will never give my time or money to triumph Japan ever again.
I had a 2016. I never bothered to put any aftermarket parts on it not even a pipe because I used it to commute to colllge and had the gsxr to go fast but that bike has a lot more flaws than you think the transmission sucks. The suspension is awful in the corners the throttle is too snappy and honestly you just get bored with it fast
Yamaha insists on building bikes with bullshit suspension and people keep buying it. They sell bikes where the spring rates and damping on the front and rear don't match. It doesn't make any sense, it costs nothing to use one spring vs another. It costs nothing to use one damping cartridge vs another. I think Yamaha just hates their customers.
What would you say comparing Tracer 900 and Transalp? I am going to rarely go off road, maybe some unpaved, gravely roads but nothing serious. Will do test riding but wanted to ask you for opinion since we are kinda similar. Could you notice the difference in agility on the street?
The tracer is a better street bike that will do dirt roads with a skid plate and Michelin snake adventure tires that still work great on the street.
Transalp isn’t as good but in isolation it’s amazing.
If you are thinking a used tracer 900gt like I had, see my video “best used bike”. The tracer will have a center stand, quick shifter (up only) built in heated grips, adjustable suspensions, and cruise control included. The Transalp is smother and more comfortable.
But I believe you had the same tracer before, yes? Remember you sold it for a reason. So get the newer tracer 9, 9gt, or 9 +. Otherwise I personally like the Honda. And you could get the wheels re spoked to 19 17 rims so great street and fine dirt road performance.
All to say, I’ll only pick the Honda because I’m a mechanic so I can fix everything it is missing on my own without Honda finding out or paying someone to do it. In USA dollars, it will cost me 3-4000 to do everything I want to the Honda, but if I pay a mechanic, it will be over 6k.

Hi mate, i have the MT-07 2022 upgraded it to the max.. sometimes i want to sell it for the mt09 because the lack of electronics.. then again.. why would i? The looks of my 07 are the best as it gets.

my friend,first,from what i see japan looks like my country,and those streets are similar with what i ride.thank god i dont live in a city.second i m a father too,i have two sons 20 and 16,i am 44.i never stoped riding.my sons ride too.i just was deprived some good bikes,and i was making my passion with older used bikes.i want to tell you dont be afraid of on road ridiing,to consider for your choice to your next bike.couse i know fathers that dont ride on road,they go only to tracks or dirt tracks.you can die every day.and yes for road riding fun,we dont need 150hp bikes.now for the first time in my life i am about to buy a new bike.i wish i could test ride all bikes i m interested,but i cant.so i watch videos,altough i notice most youtubers address to newbies.90% i ll go for the new transalp.just i m afraid of that t.c. and electronics in general.i ve never drive bike with electronics.i wish i wont dissapoint

Don't worry about the electronics on the honda. They are mostly un notice able. Only 1 time I slid on ice and it stopped the slide.
But if you don't like, you can turn every electronic off. Take your time and ride slow at first. But it's a honda, you'll be used to it in not time

my thought is that if I’m sure to keep 1 bike 10 years, Honda. But if 2-5, ktm is better in every way and maybe I’ll get one of the ktm that doesn’t break.
My plan now is, ktm for the 2 year warranty. After that if it’s good I’ll keep it, if not, used Transalp.

Describing what you wanted out of a bike before the MT07 I am VERY surprised thats the bike you went with. Here in the US, the 07 comes to mind as 'the' hooligan bike and just about everything you mentioned fell in line with it.
Throwing a suggestion out in the ring, maybe look at Suzukis line up? The GSX-8R and GSX-8S take themselves more seriously while also being sporty. Its less 'lets take this curve NOW' and more "Ill fall in line with whatever you do" in my experience. Same for Hondas really, though I prefer Suzukis for this conversation. Id also say the 8R is good for touring if you dont mind a lack of cruise control

But I agree, my friend just got his first bike and I put effort in talking him into the gsx 8s

I like the v strom whe. I think about my previous 650. But the re Weighs more than a tracer 9gt + and the de is even more. Not to mention it carries the weight up high
So no. But it suzuki can get the weight lower and below 215kg on the de, I'd have gone for that and nothing else
I traded in my MT07 for the exact same reasons. Found myself going on longer road trips, hundreds of US highway miles, so needed something more comfortable and mature.
What did you take?

@tacticalpenis6633 that's only in Europe and a few parts of the Common Wealth. Not in Japan or North America.

The Yamaha MT07 is a good starter bike, though you must ride it carefully as isn't very error-forgiving due to it's torky engine.
Despite that, is pretty bland bike for the cash they ask nowadays.
In Japan, the gsx 8 is close in price but more features. Mt's lack of features might making better to learn but for my money, suzuki and honda (if honda sells in your country)
Now the real question is whether you'll actually commit to the offroading, or end up turning the adv bike into a sport tourer!
Honestly, I'm excited by both.
A 19/17 tubeless set could be a perfect compromise
with how roads are setup in japan/ east asia in general, the ADV platform is definitely the mature and ultimately the end game for mature riders. hahaha

The roads are crazy here, but the dirt road seem be be a intense thing too if you know where they are. Atleast that's what I've been told

Sounds like you're ready for the gentlemanly sporty and capable touring that the Honda VFR800 does so well. I had one in Japan when I lived there and it was perfect. There's a reason why they were the shirobai bike for so long.
