It's time for another Chromebook Plus review. One by one, we're tackling them all, and If you haven't yet watched or read the others, you can check them out here. The gist of Chromebook Plus in a nutshell is this: create a solid hardware baseline for new Chromebooks that helps facilitate a great user experience across the board. While hardware specs alone don't 100% translate to user experience, Google has done well with this first batch of Chromebook Plus devices in delivering a universally-great experience across the board, and that includes the device we're talking about today: the ASUS CX54.

I am actually typing this comment on the CX34 that I picked up today. Your review is spot on, especially in terms of how this laptop feels and its build quality. One feature I am pretty picky about is the keyboard and this one feels really good for my typing style and for the amount of typing that I do. I currently use an HP Chromebook and started with a Lenovo 2-in-1 before that. However, this is my first Chromebook Plus. I can already feel how snappy it is compared to my other Chromebooks and thank goodness for that 1080p webcam. I have been watching your channel for a few years and it's been extremely helpful, not just for the reviews but also for getting me better aquatinted with Chrome OS (and really liking it!). Thanks to your reviews, I picked the CX34 as my main laptop and I will be completing my dissertation on it this month. :)

I consider the cx34 to be the spiritual successor to the c302 which was my previous favorite chromebook. I got mine at Costco because I wanted the grey version. I do question the 250 nit rating because it is much brighter than most other chromebooks I looked at and I think its pretty great. The only thing I miss from my c302 is the aluminum build.

typing this on my c302. one of the best purchases I ever mae. its perfect except for the crappy bluetooth. Looking for a chromebook for my dad to upgrade from his shitty windows for browsing and email. I would have prefered something cheaper than the chromebook plus tbh, he doesnt need the i3 or the 8gb ram. But sadly, anything i come across has a very shitty lcd screen or the dreaded 1336x768 resolution screen

I picked up a CX34 a couple of months ago on sale for £250 and for that price it has really impressed me. Using it for browsing, video and game streaming from my PC, PS5 or Geforce Now and it just never lets me down.

Before asking the question, I want to thank you for the content you make. I'd like to know if you've tried LumaFusion for basic 1080p video editing on the ASUS Chromebook Plus.
I'm looking for a laptop for exams, but I would also like to be able to edit videos of maximum 10 minutes in Full HD eventually.
What do you think about the performance of this Chromebook for these types of tasks?
Thank you very much for your help.

Other reviews say this has a below par dim screen. You keep saying its 300nits but the Asus website lists only 250: Non-touch screen, 14.0-inch, FHD (1920 x 1080) 16:9, Wide view, Anti-glare display, LED Backlit, 250nits, NTSC: 45%, Screen-to-body ratio:80 % Please clarify on this.

Not had the same problems as you Robbie. I bought the grey model for an astounding £249.99 in early January. By choosing grey the backlit keyboard is excellent - white lettering on black keys really stands out. The trackpad - absolutely Ist class - silky smooth and responsive. Maybe your review unit is a dud? If I had any gripes at all it would be the battery llife with about 4.5 hours of mixed usage but I guess this is bound to happen as specs increase. (PS would love to comment on your website but disqus platform puts me off.)

Why are some models of Chromebooks not available in the UK??? Hp dragonfly for one not available in the UK? The red 2nd gen Samsung Chromebook again not available? We also get Chromebooks with lower specs and not the top tier counterparts why??? I have the Acer 516 GE based on your reviews but we only get the i5 8 gb ram version and I believe there is a higher spec'd version of this also with more ram! Why why why? I'd love to be a reviewer like yourself, but in the UK we just don't have the full array of Chromebooks 😢 I've just managed to persuade my own father in buying the Acer 515 Chromebook instead of a normal Windows laptop 👍

In my opinion... for any chromebook (or laptop in general) to not have a micros SD card slot... is completely unacceptable. I don't care if "it's just a chromebook", or we have the CLOUD, or even if it had 500GB storage.. that's not the point. I feel like the user is being handcuffed when we're being told that officially, they decided that we wouldn't be using/needing more storage. I know they have low-profile flash drives.. i have several... that's not the point.

They don't really post replies. They have videos explaining the difference. Lonis tech tips also has one. The main point is Chromebook plus guarantee at least i3 chip, 8 gb ram, 1080p screen and camera .....and some extra software goodies.
But some older Chromebooks meet the Chromebook plus spec minimum. They will get the extra software features, but obviously not the branding on chassis

Install chrome OS flex on any entry level Thinkpad. Boom, twice the memory and storage for a portion of the price, more solid build to boot. Chromebooks have been made obsolete thanks to Google itself making Flex a thing.

Again, another manufacturer who decided to use stupid skinny left and right arrow keys! It makes freaking sense! Because of this decision, the whole keyboard looks awful! Skinny left and right arrow keys make unused space on the keyboard and it looks awful. They should have gone with full sized keys for the left and right arrow keys. That would have made the whole keyboard look more coherent. I hate when manufacturers use these stupid skinny left and right arrow keys!!! 😡😡😡
