Man, it's no wonder I thought it was painfully perfect timing for her passing to occur in the same time frame as another notable public television icon thanks to this particular intro sequence:

If anybody's wondering what song Rockapella's parodying to, it's "The Lion Sleeps Tonight".

I used to love this show growing up while it was airing. (And I still do, too)

Man, just seeing the ident for WNET at the beginning of this post should serve as a painful reminder of how old I was when the 9/11 attacks occurred. Now I know why they were smart enough to end those episodes with that disclaimer.

You can tell it's very early because there is actually a top row not filled up in the audience where only a year later every row is filled and there are kids even sitting on the floor.

I liked Rockapella's opening scat when the gumshoes names were called during these early episodes. I just wished they used it for the remainder of Season 1 and all of Season 2.

It became slightly modified in the latter part of Season 1. That modified version was used when the gumshoes' names were called in Season 2, and in the opening of episodes in Season 3 after the Chief announced the title of each day's episode. Here is a clip of the modified version: ua-cam.com/video/oIfllpS7OF8/v-deo.html

As for Seville, Spain, it's the setting of another world-famous opera: "Carmen", by Georges Bizet.

Ditto. Boy, if this show were ever revived, I'm sure WNET would air it the way it used to air the original show: Monday-Friday at 5:00pm, and half an hour later on WLIW (for repeats).

In Washington, DC it was interesting. It was on at 5:30 on both WETA and WMPT, and then at one point, it was on for an hour at 8:00 on both channels. I think it was on at 8:00 on WHUT at one point, but I don't remember.

A sidenote to the candies Greg got: those came from Bonbon, who ironically had quite a presence all over Europe. I've seen them in Japan back in '96.
Oh, and there's also an amusement park in Denmark based on these candies, called "BonBon-Land".

And the Chief's outfit is green and yellow and not red like in Season 2 I believe. And Greg asks the kids directly about themselves rather than the guys announcing it.

18:35 "No, The Little Mermaid was created by Disney, right before he created Spider-Man and Star Wars."
