Depends on which 'core' bands you're looking for. I'm assuming you're referring to 'core' bands such as Bring Me The Horizon, Pierce The Veil, etc. If you want a modern 'core' band that is good, try Killswitch Engage and Lamb Of God(if they're considered metalcore).
There is still good music. You just have to go deeper than you had to in the 80s and 90s. It gets annoying, but I've compiled a list of bands, and listen to them all the time.

This song could mean the world to one person but mean shit to someone else. The music and flow is what has kept them so popular. I love the band and what they are doing for their listeners, and that's what has kept me listening to and loving them.
