It sounds lovely, thank you so much for providing so many godamn stories. UA-cam is a fickle beast i know. But I love and appreciate everything you do. Keep up the good fight mate \m/
I liked the part were one guy's Skitarii were calculating the odds of killing the other Skitarii and one of the guys goes "I have an automatic grenade launcher, please recalculate the odds." Even the techboys have some proper lads.
got a 3d printer and already been playing 10th edition epic with my nerds, just oversized games of 40k rather then real epic rules, but ive got maybe 40k points of 6mm chaos. 10th ed is pretty fun and really easy to pick up and play. This is the book that got me into it all when i was a youth! Glad to see you back ABP!
I bought this on Audible by mistake. Since then it has been one of my favorite 40k books. The messy union of Imperium and Mechanicus makes for great drama and action.
Welcome back! The mic sounds generally very good, the clicks do not really go through a whole lot, they are barely noticeable. The "f" and "p" air blows and pops do get through a little more, but it's not enough to distract and it might be even less perceptible if I used cheap headphones.
I feel the best part about Abnett books are that he actually has a distinguishable style. Not to mention highly identifiable “Abnett words” like “vox” that’s now in common use and his consistent choice to use the expletive “fugging”. Even his references to Old Terra like the “Catheric” religion and the “dramaturge” named “Shakespire”. I’m sure there are more Abnettisms out there but the fact that all of that was off the top of my head is surprising enough
I agree that it is a great book. the one big issue i have with it, is that its depiction and lore of the skitarii makes me dissatisfied with my modern skittle sculpts. Give me tiger cloaked techno barbarians
It's already had an official audiobook adaptation. Now, don't quote me on this, but i think that there's some kind of copyright that prevents fanmade book narrations from being created if there's already an official audiobook.
You've hit on some good points man, reading the recent Shadow Sun book and seeing the Tau God in the Warp for I've been wondering since the warp is stronger now. The Mechanicus's beliefs should have a larger impact.
I imagine that multi armed god is a Tzeentch demon trying to fool them into becoming Tzeentch worshippers the same as happened in the Soul Drinker novel.
I agree this book is fantastic. It doesn't get nearly as much love as it should, and it's great as it's a stand alone book so you don't need to be committed to a series to get a lot of enjoyment out of it.
I didn't expect to hear any difference in the mic change but its noticeably good, don't worry about overproduction to keep up with other channels, a lot of your appeal comes from the "working man's" take on the lore, sometimes the way the other channels present themselves can get a bit weird and too role-playish
I really love the whole little side universe of the Sabbat Worlds. It's so flavorful and lovely, giving so much more to the lore. I'm just now listening to Double Eagle and it's great so far. Good to hear that I should give Titanicus a try as well. Abnett really does have a good mind for Chaos. And it's better when he writes it. I gave the Urdesh novels a try recently as well, and they're... ok. Not the best. But I'll read anything Sabbat Worlds at this point as long as it's not rated total crap. Blood Pact and Sons of Sek are interesting chaos factions, and when Abnett gets into what they believe ... it's actually not all that different from what Guilliman is wrestling with in current 40K. They believe the Emperor is another Chaos God, or at least a god on par with the other 4 - he just is misaligned.
The gaunt's ghost is really good because it's got very close similarity to the real life war movies that talks about the growth of a company e.g. band of brother, tour of duty type. without involving astartes, you get to the the true scale of the war and how weak the foot soldiers are and the horrors one face. When the book involves the primarch, custodes, grey knights, you may think the chaos is a bunch of bugs but as a foot soldier, when you run into a demon for instance, you are royally fucked.
I never expected to like that one, but eventually I was bored and decided to read it. It was surprisingly good. Dan Abnett seems to be very knowledgeable of the 40k universe, but also of WW2 history and military history more generally. He's the only 40k author I've ever enjoyed so far, and I'm afraid to try anybody else, because everything I've read that's not by Abnett was just not nearly as good, imho. Of course, that doesn't mean that there can't be any other good 40k authors.
I really enjoyed this book as well, all the Sabbat Crusade books Abnett has written are really good but this is among the top 3 easily. The politicking and potentially devastating religious schism happening in the middle of a massive Chaos invasion makes for a great setup: the way it plays out and how the various characters deal with it all as it's happening is very well written. 10/10 warhamms novel, highly recommended.
Welcome back. It's great to hear your voice again and you don't sound nackered and miserable like most do with a baby 😂 mic sounds good. I hope all is well and thanks for coming back 😊
Hey Mr border prince would you be willing to review fan regiments and chapters could you tell us and tell us how to send you the lore like emails or something 😊
Notable about the Mechanicus in Titanicus, While the mechanicus have limited freedom of religion. When the chips are down, the titans are on the emperor's side.
The issue with the Titanicus game is people don't realise just how good and complicated the Titans are. I was the same at bulking at the price and then I got one which led to many
You should read from Titanicus sometime. Glad to have ya back Inquisitor Prince, the mic sounds great! Im sure youll get the hang of the nuances of this one soon enough, but I think its great.
Don’t apologize man, you got a life of your own! And don’t worry about the youngbloods lol, they may have good tech but they just don’t have the contextual understanding of 40k to provide the level commentary that a 40k veteran can 😆
If you ever need a hand with your mic or audio feel free to message. I own a commercial recording studio, and a company that makes high end hand made studio microphones. We are in the UK so no time difference issues and would be very happy to help out :)
Each to his own, I suppose. I don't really rate Abnett particularly high as a writer. And even then, I found this to be one of the worst of his books I've read.
the one book which I didn´t really enjoyed by Abnett... the chaos enemy was just some vague opposing force, there was no POV from them, no interesting characters (and yes, I am biased, because I play/collect chaos). Imperial POV was superb, but the chaos side was really flat. On the contrary take the Storm of Iron, both sides got their parts and in the end, it was much more enjoyble, since you know the characters, their motivations, what they think of the enemy and so on..
I bought this when it first came out. Not the greatest but a good read. However, it ends the same way as nearly everything Abnett writes - he suddenly realises the book has to end, doesn't know how to so he it just ends. Disappointing ultimately.
It's too...crisp...feel like a Reeeeh!! wit me n the otha gits is in order! Who me? I look dumb enough to start that do I? Wut eev'n is n'orduh?! Nah nah, you's want that other one, heard him talkin real big like about your lubberly loudclubba. Very orky, that's what I wuz sayin, I wuz!
Just a quick one to get me back into things. cheers!

Sounded good to me bruv. 👍
doing the emperor's work

Thanks! You help me sleep at night and I'd love to send you homegrown regiments and chapters to see how they'd work and if they'd be lore accurate
Thanks a bunch man you made my day. On the home brew stuff I can’t sorry man if I did everyone would want that and I get asked a lot lol

Spot on comment
The Primarch has returned- praise be to him on Terra
Very believable action, the story thread of the infantry guys is very likeable, and it has one of the few appearances of a Macharius Super Heavy tank!
Commander Lau is a beast!
It's good to hear you again. You sound great.
Yeah!!!! I was wonder when we would hear from ya, I was listening to your vigilus campaign last night
I agree that it is a great book. the one big issue i have with it, is that its depiction and lore of the skitarii makes me dissatisfied with my modern skittle sculpts. Give me tiger cloaked techno barbarians
This is one of my all time favorite 40k book.
Any chance that you will narrate this one?
It's already had an official audiobook adaptation. Now, don't quote me on this, but i think that there's some kind of copyright that prevents fanmade book narrations from being created if there's already an official audiobook.

Good to see you back. Sound is better
mic sounds good, a little "compression" effect might go a long way :D
Mic sounds good. Good to have you back ABP
Glad your back to business as usual. I think the sound quality was great even wearing headphones.
The mic definitely makes the voice sound even better then ever
