    My boyfriend's extended family is very christian and they always tell his (schizophrenic) mother that the voices are "Satan trying to tempt you to do bad things" and we both get really irritated.. I feel bad for her. She could be a completely different person right now if circumstances had been different and been able to get treatment. I think all that Satan nonsense is harmful, too, because writing any illness off as Satan ignores the real problem and keeps you from getting the proper help you need.

      Unfortunately come Christians think that mental illnesses are a punishment from God too.

      That's because the devil can tempt you in your mind. The trick is to not think but to be led by the Holy spirit. God is good all the time.

    Just yesterday, my best friend Ethan was kicked out of his house by his parents. He is below 18, doesn't have any financial support, and only has shelter because of his friends, and all of this because he is bisexual.I feel like I can relate to this video a lot right now...

    • @meissmart6678
      @meissmart6678 8 років тому +49

      Ethan's parents kicking him out just because he's bisexual? Just stupid. And get this, I'm a Christian. The Bible says that we should love everyone as we love ourselves, even if we believe they are unrepentant sinners. Yes, it says certain things are sins, but it doesn't say we should treat them any worse. I'm on your side for this issue, even though I have the same beliefs as Ethan's parents.

      +Meis smart I'm Wiccan, but I can see the points of Atheism. And in regard to loving others as ourselves, the bible does state that Christians shouldn't associate with people of other faiths. I'd like to think you could be cordial. But some people do take it literally. How sad.

    • @Ladondorf
      @Ladondorf 8 років тому +12

      Really? Because from what I know, the Bible says homosexuality is unholy or something along those lines, at least the old testament, anyway. It also says anyone who has no faith in god should burn in hell.

      Where does it say that? The Bible says to love everyone as we love ourselves, sinner or not. The Bible doesn't say we should break friendships with people of different beliefs. Well, what you say does apply when it comes to marriage. But not friendships.

    I like the following argument:
    Man A: "God, please save me from my sinking boat"
    Man on canoe: "Hey, jump on my canoe!"
    Man A: "That's okay, I prayed and God will save me"
    Man A: "God, my boat is sinking even more! Please save me!"
    Man on speed boat: "Hey, jump on my speed boat!"
    Man A: "That's okay, I prayed and I have faith God will save me"
    Man A: "God, my boat is sunk and I can't swim for much longer. Please, save me!"
    Man in helicopter: "Hey, grab the ladder to my helicopter!"
    Man A: "That's okay, I prayed and I know God won't let me die. He will save me"
    Man A dies and goes to heaven.
    Man A: "God, I prayed and prayed and you did nothing to save me!"
    God: "Let's see, I sent you a man on a canoe, a man on a speed boat, and a man in a helicopter. What more did you want?"
    Not saying that I'm a religious person or believe in god, but I feel like this story accurately represents a lot of religious people.

      +Nicholas Tsimerekis (Nicholas Awesomepants) how can you say the world is not a perfect place when the perfect God made it? The Paradox of religion is determination. If God is all-knowing and all-powerful you can not take medicine ever and say that you are faithful. You are a convenient Christian. If God has a plan and he wants you to die comma then his plan is for you to die. If you don't take medicine and survive then that was his plan if you do take medicine that you were trying to circumvent God's plan. Sorry you can say all the crap you want about medicine is okay it's not in the Bible, but if we had atheist can make this argument and we can then you are fooling yourself to cut off your nose and spite your faith.

    • @F.O.R.
      @F.O.R. 8 років тому +1

      +Nicholas Tsimerekis (Nicholas Awesomepants) +Nicholas Tsimerekis (Nicholas Awesomepants) you're not imposing your beliefs on this. But if you could vote to make a law on whether abortion was okay for others, how would you vote? so to say that you wouldn't impose your beliefs on how this is bull crap unless you could say you would vote against such law.
      and if God's plan is more powerful than medicine then why take the medicine? see your response is not a rational response it's one that tries to be rational, but Falls flat when logic is applied. if you take medicine then you show a lack of faith and doubt. no other way around it

    The first men to raise the idea of religion were geniuses in my opinion; devious and immoral geniuses, granted... but even still. It's a completely full-proof way to dominate over the ignorant. Think of the number of countries in which the church was even above the law in most cases at certain points in history. Religion has also helped to dominate over women and convince society that women's submission is not only mandatory by order of a higher power, but commonplace amongst the community.

      ZiN My exact thoughts

    • @0x777
      @0x777 9 років тому +8

      +ZiN Well, that's not necessarily the case. Religion did serve a purpose. It was pretty much the only way in the early days of assembling groups of humans larger than their pack size of 5 to 20 individuals to make them cooperate. Usually packs don't work together but instead start to fight each other for resources. If you want to build a larger community you need a way to make them cooperate.
      And since CCTVs were not invented yet, the supernatural CCTV had to step in. It's quite ingenious. You can threaten people with eternal punishment if they don't do what you want them to do, and you need to provide no proof whatsoever because there is no way to test your claim.

    • @drakesmith471
      @drakesmith471 4 роки тому +2

      0x777 I didn’t even think about it from a cooperation stand point. I see both your and comfy couches’ points, but I don’t quite fully agree with them. Frankly I think that they were created to explain the unexplainable. Say you think you saw a ghost or whatever (I don’t believe in them) but let’s say you saw something ( *more generally speaking* ) that you couldn’t explain, you’d explain it with whatever reasoning you could muster. Frankly I think most religions stem from early more primitive ones, forgive the term sounding superior or whatnot in tone. By primitive I mean more tied with nature, they don’t deal exclusively or largely on ethics like the religions of today generally do, they dealt with explaining nature. Sometime later on though I believe people did realize they could use religion to control, convince, and coerce others to do the “will” of the divinity. That’s my view at least, you can feel free to feel differently.

    • @TheGeneralGrievous19

      How such absurdity get so many likes? Religion wasn't 'rised' by some people. Religiousity is natural to human beings. It was not taken from thin air but from real internal or external basis. 'Opium created for the people', 'fear of death' and 'supernatural explaination of uknown phenomena' hypothesis' were disproven not only by philosophy of religion but by natural sciences.
      "Man becomes aware of the Sacred because it manifests itself, shows itself, as something wholly different from the Profane."
      "To whatever degree he may have desacralized the world, the man who has made his choice in favor of a profane life never succeeds in completely doing away with religious behavior."
      Mircea Eliade

    • @drakesmith471
      @drakesmith471 4 роки тому +1

      @@TheGeneralGrievous19 philosophy has no clean cut answer for things and doesn't necessarily give any "yes to this" and "no to that" responses. I feel I need to say this, but natural science didn't disprove religion, and it's goal isn't to do so. See this is the thing I have trouble understanding. Some of you who are religious are fine with others differing in what religion they follow, yet when someone says they don't believe in anything you end up treating them as though they're in a crisis? What?

I can say in all truthfulness that the most UNloving people I have known in my lifetime have been devout Christians. And I vomit when I hear them whinny that "Jesus" is the personification of love. In my book, Christians don't have a clue as to what love REALLY is.

    It is so damn hard to find atheists who aren't self-righteous idiots who just want to call others stupid! I have strategically checked out your videos with the most "controversial" titles to see what you have to say about things and I am impressed. You're actually a decent human being who uses his critical thinking properly! I wish more people were like this.

    • @aimraah2586

      "Self-righteous idiots?" "Call others stupid?"
      First, I don't name call anybody unless they really, REALLY deserve it, and you basically just called me an "idiot" based on no information about me other than my lack of religious belief. And you have the nerve to call ME the "self-righteous" one?
      Do you have ANY idea how hypocritical you sound?

    • @carlaismm
      @carlaismm 10 років тому +10

      A Imraah Was I talking to you personally? Have you seen how most atheists act online? They fit my description perfectly. I'm an atheist too and didn't call anyone an idiot because of their lack of religious belief. I called them idiots because they act like idiots. What's your point?

    • @aimraah2586
      @aimraah2586 10 років тому +26

      You said "It is so damn hard to find atheists who aren't self-righteous idiots."
      I am an atheist, so that implies you were calling me a "self-righteous idiot." I don't appreciate that. (Actually, I'm kind of indifferent about the "self-righteous" part, but I'm definitely upset about the "idiot" part.)
      And now you claim that you "didn't call anyone an idiot because of their lack of religious belief." Then, what? When you said "It is so damn hard to find atheists who aren't self-righteous idiots," was it some trait common to all atheists other than our lack of religious belief that you were referring to? Because, last time I checked, lack of religious belief is the only trait that's common to all atheists.
      Have I seen how atheists act online?
      Yes. We're usually right about what we say, at least when talking on subjects of philosophy and spirituality.
      I don't see YOUR point.
      Indeed, in my experience, both online and off, my fellow atheists and I tend to be the most intelligent and principled members of any group. The basis for which you call us "idiots" eludes me, especially when you claim to be one of us (though I wonder).
      Good day.

    • @carlaismm
      @carlaismm 10 років тому +4

      A Imraah Do you only take what you like from a person's comment? I'm an ATHEIST MYSELF! But that doesn't make me blind to the fact that the vast majority of atheists online only like calling others stupid while they themselves being self righteous, violent kids who probably like the term only because it goes against what their parents want from them and they rebel with it without even having a reason behind it.
      Just read the comments to many of these videos. While some people seem balanced critical thinkers that back up their claims with proper information, many respond to others' opinions like retarded little brats.
      Sorry, but just because I'm an atheist, I'm not going to ignore the fact that a big part of the people who share my disbelief are idiots. Check out other atheist youtubers. Little extremist brats who think they hold the ultimate truth about everything. Not cool in my book; they're just like religious people who do the same thing, trying to shove their ideas down others' throats with nothing to back it up other than "well this is the truth and you're dumb if you think otherwise".
      Which is why I like this guy. He actually is a logical, critical thinker. The kind of person I'm happy to identify with.
      If you identify with the violent, self righteous brats I'm talking about, I'm sorry I offended you, but it's my opinion. If you're a logical thinker with reasons for your position related to atheism, then my comment was not intended for you, so you have literally NO REASON for getting butthurt.

    • @aimraah2586
      @aimraah2586 10 років тому +12

      Incredible! I've heard of "self-loathing Jews," but you're the first "self-loathing atheist" I've ever met! (And I hope the last.)
      I haven't seen any of the things you accuse atheists of being. And I'll remind you of a couple things.
      First of all, violence perpetrated for religious beliefs is something RELIGIOUS people do, not atheists. In the history of humanity, nobody has ever been murdered for refusing to accept atheism, killing somebody for not sharing your religious beliefs is something that only fantasy believers do. That's not to say that an atheist can't be violent for other reasons, but when we have violence in our hearts, it doesn't stem from our penchant for "spiritual skepticism."
      And secondly, whereas the first words of yours I ever read were an insult against atheists ("self-righteous idiots"), atheists don't resort to name calling. Name calling and threats of violence are things that people resort to when their logic fails. And an atheist's logic doesn't fail. That's the whole reason to commit to atheism! Because its the only belief system that's logic is impeccable!
      You accuse atheists of doing these two things. I haven't seen it. But, as a person with a scientific mind, I have to acknowledge that it's possible. So I'll say that atheists who threaten violence in the name of atheism and whose logic fails so they resort to name calling probably aren't atheists and/or haven't been atheist very long. I've been an atheist all my life, just like my parents were and the majority of my family members are.
      To me, you seem to be the one who doesn't know what it means to be an atheist. And you are the one who aught to be ashamed for your attitude.
      Good day.

Basically the biblical God is saying ,,Hey obey me and do things that you don't want and you'll end up in heaven. If you do normal human things like a human you end up in hell, your choice" like bro what? That's literally not free choice because if hell is real nobody would want to go there.

    If a Jehovahs Witness willingly takes a blood transfusion:
    1: They will be "Disfellowshiped" (There are some shades of grey when it comes to disfelowshiping)
    2:There family is allowed to talk to them if there is a Family Issue. They are even allowed to live at a family members home if they can not afford a place of there own.
    3:They are welcome to come to the "Kingdom Hall" (Church) and sit and listen. However no one at the Kingdom Hall is allowed to talk to them.
    4: MANY Jehovahs witnesses do not like the Disfellowshipping process. And some will still speak to a disfellowshiped person secretly, however they risk being disfellowshiped themselves for talking to a disfellowshiped person if they are caught.

They also several decades ago did not accept organ transplants because it was basically the same thing as cannibalism. Jehovah's Witnesses do not believe that the Mosaic Law is valid anymore. Fad Fudge The universe came to be the way it is today through gravity, big objects pulled in smaller objects, which would collide and eventually after millions of year would make the big object even bigger and attract more objects. The gravitational pull of this now gigantic object would pull it into a spherical form, thus creating stars. The stars would pull chunks of ice and rock into orbit, these asteroids would go through a similar process, creating the planets and moons. Everything is the way it is because of gravity's pull after the big bang. This process would take billions of years, it did take billions of years, to create the planets and stars all around us.

      I hate the implication that religion owns the monopoly on "charity". It doesn't take religion to do charity. People do the charity, not the religion. The last time I paid attention to the Pope trying so do charity, he went to AIDS sufferers in Africa and told them not to use condoms, the one thing besides abstinence that can protect others from AIDS. How is that moral? He basically told them not to care about the physical welfare of their partners.
      Good people will tend to do good things, with or without religion. Bad people will tend to do bad things, with or without religion.
      Let me put it another way. When we were kids, Santa gave us presents for being good. When we grew up and stopped believing in Santa, did we stop getting presents? No, our friends and loved ones gave us presents. We don't need Santa to share gifts. Just as we don't need religion to do charity. If you are a charitable person, charity is within you.

    My religion teaches that faith being used to fix a problem is only part of it. It doesn't hurt to pray for God to help you if you're already trying the best you can. In fact, in my opinion, sometimes it really helps merely by calming down the person and allowing them to think more clearly.

    • @TimeKaiser

      7000Darklight One person's prayer is another person's silent non-religious meditation. Toe-may-toe, Toe-mah-toe. As for everything else you typed, I can't speak for christianity as a whole but I can personally speak for myself. I do my best to go every sunday. I do the best I can to "love thy neighbor as thy self" each day. I never force my religion upon anyone. I've never once gone up to someone and claimed that they're going to hell. In fact my two best friends living with me are pagans. They tell me Merry Christmas and I tell them Happy Yule. I can in no way claim that the Bible's complete modern day contents are 100% accurate. I acknowledge that Constantine and a group of people were picking and choosing what would be accepted and what would be rejected. I acknowledge that wordings got changed in translation. However that doesn't make the message to "love one another" null and void.

    I remember when I was being confirmed at my church, my pastor was actually extremely supportive of my curiosity and doubt. Part of it did stem from my father having a terminal illness, but even later when I started to research things he never told me I was wrong or shamed me for it. Pastor Tim in general was a really open guy - I remember a specific instance where he said he appreciated my skepticism more than the other kids blind faith because it meant I actually cared about the truth. Seeing other people's stories about their past experiences in church makes me really thankful I had such an understanding dude as a pastor.

I used to trust this person, but now they're telling me that I need Jesus, and I'm like "Seriously... My mum, my dad, my grandma, everyone else, and now you??" I felt a little betrayed. I don't know exactly why. I didn't know them really well, but I just felt like I had a connection with them... a connection that's now magically been tainted. I often challenge christians about the misogyny that exists throughout the bible. Usually they dodge the issue, but yet many modern christian churches and of course the catholic church do not believe that women should be preachers, priests and pastors. They fail to explain why this discrimination is part of their religion.

    • @ChinyUzzz
      @ChinyUzzz 10 років тому +1

      They dodge it because the issue of time in the Bible is very fluent. For example in the 2nd letter of Peter he writes: "But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day." Also in Hebrew (in which part of the Bible was written) there was no word describing "years". And, when they said that Noah was 950 years old, they say he had 950 jubilees. And jubilee=50 years. I don't know how it corresponds to the scientific discoveries about the origins of a human (I didn't count it) - I'm writing the above to illustrate that the time of God is not our time. There are, however, many evidences on God's existence - you just need to look for them, if you are truly interested in the Truth.

    To me, praying is a last resort that I'd reserve for when things are truly out of my control. For example, while I would work to earn a degree or get out of debt, I'd pray that humanity doesn't get wiped out in a nuclear holocaust, or that a meteor doesn't destroy the Earth, because that's clearly something that's beyond my ability to control.

    • @OfficialPinkaMenaX
      @OfficialPinkaMenaX 11 років тому +7

      Actually both examples are both things you could help prevent. You could help gain support for nuclear disarmerment. The second example even worse because there are literally people whose job is to track near Earth asteroids and physicists and engineers who design methods to prevent an impact if a possible collision was detected.

    • @deepfreezzeer
      @deepfreezzeer 11 років тому

      but can we do it. NO, we can not move a asteroid so who can GOD. in Islam we have a prayer and what we say is, o god protect me from in front and from behind, and on my right and on my left and from above, protect me from below lest i be swallowed up by the earth. you have probably heard of people and hole towns being destroyed by sink holes. it is a truly terrifying thing and nobody ever knows the sink hole is there until its to late only god knows and only god can protect you from it. another example is earthquakes and eruptions, nobody ever know when the destruction is coming, so people prepare for them but their preparations could fail, so you must pray that it will work, why because god has control over every thing, he could make them work and he could make them fail. Until the earthquake or eruption happens you will never know only god dose because he knows everything.

    • @OfficialPinkaMenaX
      @OfficialPinkaMenaX 11 років тому +3

      While it is true that we don't currently have a implemented method for redirecting asteroids we are capable of doing it. Whether we do it by landing a probe with a rocket engine on it, hitting it at a high velocity, or another method. With proper geological surveys one could probably find sink holes and we could not build in places that are prone to the formation of sink holes. It is also true that earthquakes and eruptions are very hard to predict with any accuracy, but we do have ways of defending against them. New developments in structural and material engineering are making build safer and safer against earthquakes. Eruptions are hard to defend against because they are can be unpredictable and are incredibly powerful. There are ways of predicting the likely hood of a volcanic eruption or earthquake.
      I think I'd rather trust scientist and engineers then pray to God and hope He is in a good enough mood to save the Earth.

      I think that prayer may also have one more effect that people are forgetting about which is... the placebo effect.
      Even though the placebo effect is still the object of debate there is research proving that it has some effects. So yeah, a person that prays and believes that it'll help can get some positive effects in his/her personal problems (science YEAH!).
      However about bigger events like volcanoes or meteorites... yeah, i'll take much more than just a prayer.

    The individual has been persecuted throughout time. Religious leaders would say that building yourself is evil, how can this be? How can loving and believing in oneself be a bad thing? What would happen if we had a society of kind, compassionate, and reasonable individuals. How can anything that is pleasurable be bad? If one knows themselves they will not lose themselves to hatred, perversion, ignorance, the group, and their own emotions.

    • @ShakinJamacian
      @ShakinJamacian 10 років тому +14

      We say we have no sin because sin is a concept, and in fact the ideas of sin can be explained by logic. The reason people do desperate, depraved things is because they feel they are in desperate, depraved circumstances. A person is more prone to rob when they feel they *have* to rob, and that is to say that they feel they cannot obtain what they want any other reasonable way. How these types of things can be brought into people is if they are disempowered. If they have to fight and claw for everything in their lives, especially from their own environment, it conditions the individual that he or she must continue to do this to obtain what they want.
      We have a whole world that disempowers people, but it is key to say that religion is only one body that does this. Another would be stereotypes, how we value money, all sorts of systems that create a social game of "Us vs Them". This social game is the source of much conflict in the world, and thus the source of depravity in people, for we have disempowered them and gave the things we dislike more ammo for them to partake in.

    • @nathanyamaha465
      @nathanyamaha465 10 років тому +1

      ShakinJamacian
      Sin is a concept... like death, and pain, and suffering, and hurt, and everything bad in the world is a concept. Sin is an idea... like how there is nothing evil in the world. Sin is a concept... like how there is no such thing as righteousness from God in Christ. ---*If we acknowledge our sin, He is faithful and just and will forgive our sin, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.* If you want to live deluded of your own depravity and try to empower yourself that is your choice.
      But when you believe that only God is good, yes, He gave His Son to die for you, to redeem you and give you peace, joy, and everlasting life. Then you will quit trying to justify yourself and living in an alternate world where sin is not real, where each person defines what is good for them, and rather, give the glory and honor to God that is due to your Creator, for He has given the world the greatest good, His Only Son, Jesus Christ.

Some call me stupid for believing in God and they have never even had a valid conversation with me about these issues. Some atheists are just as self-righteous and proselytizing as the fundamentalist religious people they criticize.

The flat earth. unfortunately, there's still an estimated 50,000 people who believe the Earth is flat. amazing! Around the ages of 6-9 I was attending a Christian summer camp each summer with the longest session being a week there. At one of the many bible story sermons each evening at camp, it was when I was listening to a sermon about the story of David and Goliath and how God had told David to take a stone and kill Goliath, it was then that I discovered my own ability to think critically about religion. When I got home from camp I went to mom and asked that if God had told David to go kill Goliath, and David had so much faith in God, why did David take more than one stone, was he doubting his faith or god? My mom was unable to answer and even replied that she didn't know, but told me to ask the adults at church the following Sunday (I was made to attend ALL church services EVERY Sunday; we were Presbyterian.) Long story short, I continued to seek out an adequate answer to this question, from various Preachers, Reverends, Pastors, Sunday school teachers, and even asked my camp counselors, guest speakers, bible study leaders, and numerous other camp staff, even the cafeteria workers, upon returning the following summer to the same Christian camp I attended each summer prior, and as always I was given an "IDK," "that's a good question, you should go ask such and such, I bet they will know the answer," "the bible says, and I'd be given completely unrelated verses and stories that the person giving them would make a pathetic, awkwardly embarrassing, and desperate attempt to make it relate to me and why children should never question anything the bible says, especially to those in positions of authority and how its a horrid sin, blah blah blah. I no longer questioned what the bible said after that, at least not out loud, but it was to late for my mind, I had already accessed my critical thinking ability, not long after that I engaged my logical reasoning and skeptical acceptance, but it was short lived. I self-surpressed my own doubts, and skeptism for years, all because I wanted to believe in the god/jesus that my family had raised me, expected me, and even required me to believe he genuinely existed, though somewhere inside me it didn't feel real, and the harder I tried to ignore the contradicting scripture, the hypocrisy of the entire church, the illogical ridiculousness of it all, the more apparent its bullshitery became to me. It wasn't until the age of 27 that I confessed out loud that I no longer believed in the existence of not just the Christian god, but all gods/supernatural beings, and that I am a proud Atheist, this was an extremely liberating, mind opening, self empowering, and instantaneous positive life alteration for me.
    I am now 30 years old and still feel just as strong, maybe even stronger about my life, my future, my morals, my achievements, my failures, my mistakes, and my choices, never again being subjected to any religious authority, illogical bias, immoral absurdity, fear instilled submission, irrational dictatorship, and the common sense lacking concept of a narssistic, greedy, selfish, spiteful, vengeful, cruel, and inhumane invisible sky daddy, and that my friends is true freedom and authentic inner peace!!!

    Thank you for not judging the fact that there are churches that make donations completely optional.
    And why do we still pray THEN go to the doctor or Study? Because that gives us peace of mind. That's how to explain in a way for an Atheist to understand. I mean, if it's our life, that doesn't affect you in the slightest, praying should be an acceptable means of stress relief, or an acceptable attempt in my opinion.
    Normally I would agree with alot of this(though some of it I really DO agree), alot of this still makes people happy in their own way if they're devout to their religion. I personally like the idea of no sex before marriage because I don't want my need for sex to play a major factor in going out with a girl, and it's not that hard to find a girl who feels the same way. I also personally don't want a partner to know/find out somehow that I had sex with many other partners. But that's just my own opinion. I guess it seems stupid to some people, but hey, we all have prejudices.
    Oh well, i know I have no business here for I am a man of a religion, but it was fun arguing anyway :) Make fun of my beliefs if you wish. Already have enough Atheist friends(who I cherish dearly) who rip on me from time to time about it xD

      One thing, and it's not a big deal now, but it used to be. Prayer used to be a school thing. The atheist kids and kids of other faiths would have to suspend their valuable time waiting for prayer to be over. Prayer can affect people other than yourself. That side, prayer doesn't really do that now, it's not too much of a problem. But people suggest you do that. "Pray for them". It's not a helpful suggestion and just stresses someone out if they're in trouble.

    • @Gundamseeddabest
      @Gundamseeddabest 11 років тому

      Sephitard9001 It's even less helpful in my opinion to just say "you can't do anything for them." I personally don't say "pray for your friend," I usually keep silent and just have that person in my prayers. But, I can see your side of the argument. Even I have experienced that stress when family members told me to pray in a helpless situation. However, it was still better than my parents saying euphemisms to "I'm sorry, you're screwed." BUT That's my opinion and I respect where you're coming from too.

Other reasons why religion is harmful is if involves fearmongering, hatemongering, warmongering and if it ironically claims to "fix" your problems! >:O Like with Scientology claiming that they rid people of negative influences through their auditing processes while condemning psychology and psychiatry as evil which has led to the murder of Elli Perkins that I saw from an episode of the ID channel show Deadly Devotion the "Scientology Cure" where her son Jeremy had Schizophrenia whom his mother did not take him to see a psychiatrist for she was taught by Scientology that psychology and psychiatry are evil instead they "helped" his situation by teaching her alternative medicine which the schizophrenic son had mistaken it for her poisoning him which scared him into killing her! >:O If Elli would've taken her son to a psychiatrist or a psychiatric hospital instead believing Scientology's bullshit nonsensible beliefs she would've saved her son and she would've been alive!:'O >:O Christian Science and certain Christian churches forsake medicine for "divine/faith healing" and Jehovah's Witnesses do the same thing with blood transfusions! :P Their beliefs that by forsaking these things for God's healings are more like their delusional fantasy for the reality is that parents who practice these beliefs on their children who have severe illnesses that can be saved by medicine and blood transfusions have died from their illnesses and the parents are in jail for negligent homicide! >:O Even if there are Christian who don't promote hatemongering like the Ku Klux Klan and Muslims who don't promote warmongering like Al-Qaeda there are Christians, Jews, and Muslims as well as their cult counterparts who promote fearmongering and false bizarre and negative beliefs like the Christians that I've met who have told me that women (I was like ok what about men being evil too?! >:O), Atheism, Satanism, Occultism, Polytheism, Hinduism (a, Buddhism, and Islam (Although some Muslims would say the same the same thing about Christianity) are evil, or like how a Christian woman told me when it comes to tithing it's not just generosity it's obedience (which I know she means especially the church needs financial support it's just I felt like what she said could used by the wrong people to manipulate other financially like what happened to one of my IOP zoom meeting's attendent's parents who didn't give tithings to a church and because of that the church's pastor shamed/embarrassed/humiliated them and kicked them out of his church), Some of the Evangelical Christians that I've meet perform exorcisms on people with psychological problems like when I was at Monmouth Worship Center I had psychological and social issues that caused me to make some very bad mistakes at that place! >:O Mistake #1 I've made threats to someone on the phone in the prayer room and I've shown the text to a Chrisitan woman named Julie who used to give me rides and whose daughter Isabella invited to me that place she told the other members where I got called up to the Sanctuary where they a performed an exorcism on me where they (didn't tie me up as they did in the movies) laid their hands on me and pray the anger whatever was wrong with me that made me send that threatening text I've yawned which they believed that an evil spirit left me but I don't believe that an evil spirit did possess me in the first place! >:O, I've told Julie that I was feeling irritable towards people who were mean to me in the past she laid her hand on me and said in the name of Jesus I cast out this spirit of irritability before and after yelling you're not within the holy spirit, Duca yelled at me that you're disrupting the holy spirit, the senior pastor's wife who told me that I hear the voice of Satan, Pastor Joe that me he was worried about me going to hell, Isabella telling me that Pokemon is evil, Harry Potter is demonic, saying that you're with us or against us (I know that Jesus said it's just I liked it a lot better when Jesus said that not Isabella) and Julie yelling at me I have the authority but I guess that's just psychological abuse compared to all these online and on tv Christians talking about fasting cures cancer exorcists who smothered an autistic kid with a blanket to death because the exorcist thought he was demon-possessed when really the kid was autistic, and an exorcist poured hot water down a kid's throat basically drowning him and televanglists and Christian UA-camrs saying that meditation, yoga, witchcraft, the new age, the occult, and satanism are all bad/evil/satanic/demonic and that people did bad things in the devil even though there are cultic or extremist people like John List or even Mulism families who kill their families in the name of God or their own daughter for taking off her hijab!😡 Some claim that video games are evil, women shouldn't wear pants or gain positions of power, and that LGBTQ+ is a sin even though they can't be changed there are those who try through forcing them to get married to straight people or gay conversion therapy! >:O The Christian bus driver at my high school told that when King Saul drove out all necromancers and magicians from Israel she said that he killed them which I didn't believe that for The Bible says thou shall not kill and bus driver it's ok to kill if God says it's ok to kill and when I've talked about this to Monmouth Worship Center they've just said they are evil people! >:O I was like it's that how religious fanatics like terrorists, religious killers, and corrupt clergy members (like a pastor who abused by his mom and ended up killing prostitutes) think?! >:O Even though I'm a Catholic Christian I just feel like there should be more rational thinking among religious people for even with all the right things going on with them there like them saying they love me and Isabella's parents giving rides to church, giving me a The Bible DVD, Holy Bible, and money for Chinese New Year, are still so many wrong things going on with them too like them having this look of fear on their faces when it comes to Satanism, occultism, polytheism, atheism, new age, Santeria (like some missionaries at Monmouth Worship Center said that during their trip to Brazil where people pushed wooden toys into the sea as a dedication to Yemọja (The Yoruba goddess of the sea) they felt spiritual darkness (negative influence from negative spirits which I believe they confuse that with their own fears) and you've all got to understand that Monmouth Worship center didn't cause my psychological problems but rather they tried to fix it with a baptism and exorcism prayers!>:O😡 With my anger control issues, I've always thought and felt like wanting to control everything and religion wants to change and control people's lives just what Evangelical Christians try to with being born again and what the Mormons try to with burying your old testimony for your new testimony! >:O Some of the thing that Protestant UA-camr Christians say is truthful yet also hypocritical like how to criticize The Catholic Church's pedophilic priesthood in order to demonize the Catholic Church yet are pastors who are pedophiles too and that they criticize the way that Muslim husbands mistreat their wives in order to demonize Islam even though there are Christian husbands who mistreat their wives too! >:O Finally there are some Evangelical churches who talk about Jezebel, Leviathan, Kundalini, Python, and Marine Spirits which are forms of demonic possessions but they don't exist in the bible and they refuted by other Christians with that same reason! :P >:O If I can describe the problems of cults in two words they would be control and justification! >:O

    so far I think my religion is not harmful, Sikhism, 1. Sikhism doesn't force conversion or differentiating between others, in fact, our holy site is proof of this. The first brick was laid by a Muslim and we have 4 gates that represent the openness to all the major religions at that time. 2. It doesn't come between our loved ones because before the partition of India, Muslims and Hindus alike lived in harmony in Punjab and one of the few places in India to do so, Interacial marriage is accepted in our holy book as well. 3. One of the specialties of our religion is that it helps you become one with god but it encourages you to not isolate yourself. It encourages you to live life to its highest and earn an honest living. In fact, our 10th guru lived a lavish lifestyle. 4. Our religion only asks the fortunate to donate 10 percent of the income and not to the temple specifically, it can be any form of help to the community. 5. Our religion tells us that we should try to do everything in our power to achieve a goal/ solve a problem etc, and pray once the issue is out of our hands. 6. Our religion doesn't distrust reality, for example, it believes in the big bang theory, evolution etc 7. Our religion states that nobody is a sinner and that everybody has good in them. 8. as far as I know I don't think our religion discourages critical thinking, in fact, most things in Sikhism are scientifically proven to help you. In fact, NASA has an English copy of our holy book because of this. This is why I didn't convert to atheism yet.

    I think it's silly that Christians think if something bad happens to an atheist, for example: an atheist gets cancer & dies, it means he deserves it for not accepting jesus as his lord & savior & he is bound for hell. But if a child gets cancer & dies, it's because god has a special plan for him/her & the child will get into heaven. God likes to fuck with us, huh? 🙃

    • @Krystamyth
      @Krystamyth 11 років тому +3

      What is judgment if not done by men? Humankind are given critical thinking to be able to apply judgment. Religion puts that judgment out of their hands, removing responsibility of emotion and opinion. It gives license to racism and hate. Any person can judge, but to judge critically takes rational application. At no point did the video state they did not wish to be judged, they simply wished to be judged fairly.

      "It (religion) gives license to racism and hate." I don't understand how you attribute religion to negative attributes.We all must rightly judge in our lives as we use critical thinking.When someone makes critical judgement about someones faith,they should expect to draw criticism.

      I have to agree that religion is inherently bad per say. However several religions have ridiculous laws and I am not talking about solely sharia law as many would assume. I think religion is something that can teach us a lesson, theist or not but it should never be a motive behind a serious action. If it does it shows humanity has not matured in the last few millenium when people were getting killed for believing something different.

      I don't agree with Karma being good. Remember that it is also a doctrine that expends to reincarnation. Karma implies that every person born into poverty, every person that suffers from any random accident has therefore deserved it, and moreover, helping them or trying to reduce inequalities would be going against a supreme will. Karma is shit.

    • @Shibouu59
      @Shibouu59 10 років тому

      Well karma is nothing supernatural really, it just follows the obvious idea of consequences... If you do good things, good things happen, which tend to return rewards to you. If you do bad things, bad things happen, that tend to bite you in the butt.

    • @Cacophaton
      @Cacophaton 10 років тому

      Well... Stalin and Kim Jong Il died peaceful deaths, the executives of our banking systems will most likely never have to face the consequences of the economic distress they inflict upon the general population, and the list could go on for a pretty long time. But that is not what karma is just about. In Hindu religions, it is the sum of one past, current but also future actions. That will influence your future lives. It's the notion of a fate you can't escape, and it actually prevents the individual from any form of self-determination. So I guess it all depends if you take it in the occidental meaning of the word, of the strictly religious, oriental one.

    I ones knew an old friend of mine who I met when I was 6 years old. Her parents we're Christian but she was an Atheist but because of her parents she had to keep it a secret. When it was her birthday her parents got her a pet husky puppy that was a female,It was adorable and had white fur and blue eyes and it's name was Princess. It was also really playful and loved to chew and rip up things like shoes, newspaper, blankets, and the rug. One day they all went to Church and the puppy was left at home and it found a Holly Bible on the coffee table in the living room and chewed it up and ripped it to shreds. Once they got home and saw what the puppy done they got mad and decide to put her to sleep because they thought the puppy was a demon in some sort of disguise. My friend was really heart broken because of it. The puppy didn't deserve to die. :(

      Old Testament: All human's sinned because adam and eve for that. God wanted A sacrifice to cover the sin in blood of a chosen animal.
      So if Jesus didn't got to cross then we still be doing this old ass blood sacrifice shit.

      I think you're what's referred to as a cafeteria Christian, that is you take all the good philosophy (found sometimes in the new testament and rarely in the old testament) and then scrap all the nasty bits. I have to say that if you are to claim the bible is approved by an all knowing, all seeing, all powerful God, some even say it's written by God through man, you have to either believe it all or believe none of it. Now, I don't have a lot else to say about the matter but the very fact that we've emancipated ourselves from these hideous violations of human rights is dirt in the face of those who believe the morals of the bible are absolute. So I think you ought to just scrap the rest of it, scrap the horrid idea of eternity (heaven obviously the better of the two) and just say you're a theist, deist, agnostic or atheist instead. Get rid of the Christian stuff.

      1. Maybe you do, the bible says otherwise.
      2. I'm not sure which branch of chrsitianity you are, but this is the case in Catholicism and evangelical christianity.
      3. Because even only counting the major religions, there is a one in 22 chance of your religion being wrong. Don't waste potentially your only life.
      4.You appear to miss the point. Do you think jesus really wants you to give money to church that could be given instead to a charity? because as far as i can tell even the bible makes him out to be actively against this.
      5. It is most certainly part of christianity to put your faith in god and his plan.
      6.Yeah, cause Noah filled a boat with 2 of every animal and then somehow survived for forty days with less oxygen than it takes to survive and an obvious lack of food or clean drinking water.
      7. I work in a catholic school. One of the prayers the kids are forced to say contains the phrase "God i am sorry i have sinned against you." They're 8 years old. Thats just horrible, they are being taught that just by being existing, they're sinners. That is not a healthy mental attitude.
      8. It's really not. Just have faith is a common phrase uttered by christians. Ignorance is literally killing the world around us, and christianity (as well as many other religions) does nothing but contribute to this ignorance. That is whats wrong with it.
