Hi everyone! Welcome to my first ever tutorial on- well; anything ever!
I've been trying to learn the different skills that are needed for FNF modding, and one of the first things I tried to learn were FL Studio, for composing and making chromatics!
If you've got any further questions, please comment and I'll try and do my best to get to them!

Friday Night Funkin' is a Newgrounds rhythm game made in HaxeFlixel originally created for Ludum Dare 47. Programmed by ninjamuffin99 with a soundtrack produced by Kawai Sprite and artwork created by PhantomArcade and evilsk8r, the game can be played on Newgrounds or played/downloaded for free on Itch.io.
The plot of the game centers around Boyfriend trying to hook up with Girlfriend, but her ex-rockstar father Daddy Dearest doesn't approve of him. It's up to Boyfriend to rap battle his way through him and anyone else that stands in his way so that he can finally get freaky! Think you got what it takes?
Friday Night Funkin' is an ongoing project that will continue to receive updates, bug fixes and new content. A full version of the game is currently in development, having been successfully funded via a Kickstarter campaign. Check the changelog here for information on the latest updates. The game is also open source to allow users to mod or simply look through its assets. Download the game files here.
Before getting started, it's recommended that users read the rules! And before getting into editing, it's recommended that users read the style manual! Need to speak to a member of this wiki's staff? Check this page.
Uno is an American card game that is played with a specially printed deck (see Mau Mau for an almost identical game played with normal playing cards). The game was originally developed in 1971 by Merle Robbins in Reading, Ohio, a suburb ofvCincinnati. It has been a Mattel brand since 1992. The game's general principles put it into the Crazy Eights family of card games.

Minecraft is a sandbox construction video game developed by Mojang Studios where players interact with a fully modifiable three-dimensional environment made of blocks and entities. Its diverse gameplay lets players choose the way they play, allowing for countless possibilities.
There are three actively maintained editions of Minecraft: Java Edition, Bedrock Edition, and Education Edition. Underverse (originally called Underverse!Sans) is the animated series created by Jakei95 majorly connected to the X-Tale universe. It follows the story of Sans, and how one visit by an unfriendly face would mark the start of what was to be the greatest fight for the multiverse.
The Truce takes place before X-Tale, in which Error!Sans and Ink!Sans both create a truce, supposedly for the better of the multiverse. No more destruction no more creation.
Underverse brings the concept of a certain power known as OVERWRITING. It allows the person to OVERWRITE certain objects or characters within a timeline itself or the AU if the user has the full soul of OVERWRITE, such as changing stories, changing characters, changing behaviour, and possibly destroying a timeline or an AU itself; examples include the Underswap AU, and possibly the X-Tale AU. This behaviour is only doable by X Chara as he has half of X Gaster's soul.
As the story progresses Ink sans goes and enlists the help of many sans (Underswap, Undertale, Underfell) from different AU's to help stop X Chara and Cross Sans. - Ігри

A couple fancy facts and tips:
A chromatic scale is a scale of 12 ascending/descending notes. Making a chromatic should usually require around 48 notes.
3:43 Instead of doing this, to make it quicker, you can right click the tab labeled Track _, and then choose Consolidate track near the bottom.
(This will automatically change it into an audio file in the project, with the original samples layered beneath them.)
4:20 Turn the transition knob all the way down to 0%. It cuts out any white noise that may be heard near the end of the note.
4:49 For this, if you want lower notes, then start on C3 and then, when you're finished assembling the chromatic, use slide notes.
To use slide notes, press Shift + S on your keyboard and then place a note, then place the note right at the very beginning and drag the slide note all the way to the start.
5:47 If you're a trial mode user, go to the master track, open the Edison plugin, set it to On Input and press play on your newTone chromatic.
This will record the audio into Edison, and you can save the audio file from there.
7:12 Please, please, PLEASE make sure they start on the sound bar. Otherwise there is a delay.
Additional help:
Add Equalization (EQ) to it if you want it to sound cleaner. Add any other audio effects you can find, there are some good ones in Effector.
If you're REALLY smart, use third-party stuff to tune your vocals even better! (I suggest Melodyne 5, it's really good but not cheap.)
Aaaaaannnddd that's the lot, ya'll! Thanks for reading if you even bothered.
Thanks for the pointers!
@@StickyBM You're welcome, man. Keep up the good work!
@Oisintheblue Extras i got it but prob cant tell you how
@@mlomofficial YOU ARE A SAVIOUR. you don't know how much I struggled trying to make a chromatic on trial
@@StickyBM Use Detect Pitch Region's its really good but if a sample acts weird on the waveform it might add too many Region points and it names each note via its pitch like C5 and from there, there's assign all trigger... notes? I think it's notes and from there move slicex to the right of your screen then start assigning your triggers now each note is on the correct spot on the panio roll! So sorry for stupid grammar too tired and the reason of move it to the right is cause the box that shows each trigger note (since you set them manually which helps you find extra markers) will move but if on the right of the screen it doesn't move but flickers everytime you select a note.
tbh, the hardest thing about doing this is bearing with the awkwardness of recording the samples, but this actually helped me to create a chromatic i think is p solid! i thought it was gonna be years before that happened lol, this was very helpful :D
ngl i feel awkward recording my voice for a chromatic scale ngl
Same. It's rather nerve wracking.
YES
OMG i can finally make a "AUuuuugh" chromatic LESS GO
this is a certified AUUUUUUUGH moment
Yes man!
So, I have a little tip for those who have the trial version, once you’ve gotten to the part where you have to save, if you have trial version, you can’t save it, so, instead, open Edison, then click record, then play your entire chromatic, you should then be able to drag the chromatic from Edison to the playlist, then you can export it as wave
At least, this is how I did it, if this helped, you’re welcome, ask questions if you need help, I might be able to help, I’m not a professional so, I hope I helped a little
How do I open Edison in the NewTone section?
@vine boom incorporated Not sure if you can answer this, but whenever I record the chromatic in Edison, nothing comes up. No audio file, nothing. And I can't drag it if there's nothing there lol, do you know how to fix this?
@vine boom incorporated Yes I did, every time. I tried using the different input things. I am not at all experienced with FL Studio so idk what I'm doing
@vine boom incorporated where is drag file button
the drag button is on the top right, yall
note: saving in newtone doesn't work in FL studio trial mode, either record it in audacity (again), or use edison to record the scale
tysm i needed that SO MUCH
I spent so much hours on the fucking chromatic and I GET NOTHING
what i do is record a video playing the chromatic
then upload it to yt unlisted use yt 2 mp3 and then i rename it.
I spent so much time lmao 💀

Sticky. You have no idea how helpful this is for me! I’ve been wondering how to do stuff like this for quite some time. And now knowing what to do, it will really help me in the near future.
Thanks for this little guide.
For vowels, if you want to be really fancy you can have "aoue" as one, or even vowels ending in "r" depending on your theme
Very easy to understand, made my first chromatic in about 30 minutes or so. This really helped me out, so thank you!
THIS VIDEO WAS SO NEEDED
thank you, Sticky! My motivation to get FL has increased greatly. Keep up the great work!
I think this is the most clean and logical fnf chromatic tutorial I've seen yet, tysm!
Bro thank you so much for this!! I was just remastering a song i made 7 months ago,i was having trouble with the chromatics, then i see this!!
Again, thank you so much man, this is very helpful!
Nice, a tutorial on how to make chromatics!
I don’t even make covers, but I’m watching anyway 😁
This is actually helpful and I might use it for when I get fl studio at SOME POINT. LOL
KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK STICKSTER!!
alr but holy crap this was AMAZING?? It took me a few tries since ive never actually used fl studio before but wow, this actually was SUPER useful and quite astonishing actually. hearing my voice turn into a robot-y one was super cool!! thank you bro!!
Every time I make a fanmade chromatic for a character, i always start on C4 instead of C3, i think it's better for normal or high voices and C3 it's the best for deep vocals.
Damn, this is probably one of the best tutorials I’ve seen in a while. It seems so simple with you breaking it down. I guess we can say we are “Lucky” to have you!
His voice is so majestic it almost made me cry
i wanna hug him-
Oh god, thats SO useful!
Thanks for quick and understandable guide!
Thank you so much Sticky! This was very enjoyable and helpful as shit. Also love your humor as always, you make me smile. 💚
Super great how you're helping people out with this stuff. I should take a few notes too, honestly 😅
This is incredibly helpful! I've been meaning to make a cover of something for my friend who is feeling pretty depressed atm (Won't name specifics) and I think I'll be able to do it now that I know how to make a Chromatic at the VERY least. So many thanks. ❤
Finally, right to the point, easy to understand, and just easy to reference from. Thanks Sticky!
I already know how to do this from your brief tutorial on one stream. But this will GREATLY help!
finally! ive been waiting for a tutorial like this thank you!
not only do i know how to make chromatics but now i now know how to atleast try to make music from the little showcase at the end, thanks so much
Wow. This is very helpful. I’ll definitely be saving this for the future. Thanks again Sticky!!
I'm so surprised at how simple this tutorial is! I could never understand these until now! Now I just need to figure out how to make music that actually sounds good 😂
This was actually really easy to understand, thanks Stick man
THIS IS BY FAR THE BEST TUTORIAL IVE FOUND I MEAN GOD DAMN I FIGURED FL STUDIO OUT IN 7 MINUTES THANKS TO THIS GUY
Yoo this tutorial is awesome! Great work! Ive gotta try this for myself now.
Holy crap- I've been waiting for something like this in so long, even if i use FL studio on mobile this is still very helpful! Thanks man! You did a really good job explaining this this :)❤🍀

Thanks so much sticky, this was really helpful and the instructions were really clear!
Thank you so much for making this, I've always wanted to make my own chromatic scale with my own voice and now I can!
The thumbnail kinda made me think of some "With Lyrics" videos for a moment, lol
Slay girl yes! I can’t wait till this comes out so I can make chromatics in the future😍😍
YESS SLAY STICKY I LEARNED WAY MORE THEN I DID AT SCHOOL THANK YOU😍😍
what
Thanks Sticky. I’ve wanted to make an FNF mod for a while but never knew how. Now I know where to start. Really appreciate the tutorial.
This helped so much the others I watched didnt work well some did but turned out really bad but this tutorial is the god of all chromatic tutorials
I just wanna add ONE thing that I highly prefer: I find it best, while in Edison, to turn the TRANS (Transition) setting all the way to 0% as well.
What was the point of shortening the word when you were just gonna type it out after
October 10th 2023 Edit: I didn't have FL studio a year ago so I didn't know about the knobs and stuff now I know the original commenter was saying what it said and then what it meant
@@LogShaw1587 So that people wouldn't think they meant "Transexual", and people would shorten THAT word to say "Trans" aswell. Atleast, thats what I think-
@@jijiedamimi wth is transexual? It's transgender
@@Chaos_is_very_dumb
Well I'm *s o r r y,* I just confused those two. Don't gotta sound rude about it-
@@jijiedamimi No I'm just asking. Sorry if I sounded rude. It was a genuine question. Is transexual real?
5:47 a little thing to note is that trial users cannot save chromatics. however if one simply records the chromatic and then turns that recording into a wav file it will work just fine.
I know this was 6 months ago but this saved me so much. Please marry me 🌹
Thank you for this amazing tutorial sticky, this might help me start with my future music career
This actually helps since im starting to create my own huge mod! thanks Sticky
Thank you for doing this. Me and my friends want to do a triple trouble cover for us singing it and I’m in the place of sonic exe and I’m also doing the sprites. I pretty much memorized the whole song so I know what the vocals will be but we don’t know how to make them. Thank you sticky.
This is gonna help me with my fnf mod!
This was very helpful! I am excited to actually use this video to make some chromatics and make some covers and custom songs!!
This should be fun to learn. 🙂 I’m excited!
Who else better to teach you about chromatics other than Dave? That’s right girls and boys, ITS STICKY
(that sounds so wrong)
Really helpful guide sticky can't wait to start making some chromatics now keep up the amazing work man
I seriously cannot thank you enough. This is a lifesaver, thanks man
This will be perfect I'm planning on making music in the future! Thanks for the help, sticky!!
this was great, also, i recommend adding ott to the samples after slicing them and before pitching them, makes them sound better
ogg file?
@@guynamedbrix wdym?
@@guynamedbrix no the ott plugin
I usually only use 4 samples for voicing fnf things bc the thing i use is bandlab and on its sampler you can only put 16 voices on it, so i just use 4 vocals (spliced or not) and pitch them up a bit each row. And i have some interesting vocals, stuff ranging from an ass load of transformers vocals to subnautica ones (reaper, ghost ect.) But its pretty fun making them
Thanks for the tutorial! This will be really helpful with the chromatics I’ll be making
This is useful since I'm starting to make covers. Thanks for the tips of how to chromatic scales EASY!! ❤️
good tutorial video. here’s another thing, plugins like newtone and newtime don’t work for the trial version of fl studio but here’s something that i do after pitching the vowels: i record the pitched vowels in audacity to be able to slice it in slicex
Newtone and newtime do work in fl trial. You just have to record the audio into edison in FL
how can I record the audio with audacity ?
@@howtoavenge1016 How much is the subscription or price for Fl Studio?
@@dummy3467 best edition for your money is $200. Piracy is an option as well and is very commonly done, fnf modders do it all the time
@@howtoavenge1016 Jesus Christ I don’t have that much money.
How do I pirate it?
I've always been wanting to make an FNF mod myself, and this might finally give my the motivation to try to get started. (The hardest part would probably be putting together a team, and getting permission for the music I want to use.) I doubt anyone will actually see this comment, but if anyone's interested, I would love to have motivation to get started.
I mean, I am interested in helping with a mod but that's because I already am. If you're interested in helping with a mod (just not being the owner) let me know, I have a "friend" on UA-cam that's organized a dev team that's currently working on a mod.
This is very helpful Stick Bro! Great job!
4 Months later and it still holds up. I just redid my chromatic and it sounds 100x better. Thanks sticky!
I've used almost this exact method for making chromatics from my own voice, however, I always end up with two problems:
1. The vocals sound too quiet/loud/earrape/muffled, and
2. There are these loud sorta "pop" noises at the beginning and end of each voice clip
I use Audacity to not only record the voice lines, but also slice and copy them, so that might be the problem for the second point, but idk how to fix the first
1. Are you sure you're recording every sample at the same volume? Like, saying an "A" whispering but a "YU" louder could be the problem. It could be microphone audio quality too.
2. Same, but i think cutting the start of the samples like Sticky said could help
i have a few tutorials on my channel that might help you out. The “how to declick your vocals” is one that will help you out
The popping/clicking noises occurr whenever an audio file plays suddenly with no warning. There's a few ways to fix this, but for FNF chromatics, the most ideal one is to add VERY slight amounts of fade-ins/outs on each note.
I made Chromatic Scales my way now let's see how you do it yourself! [Edit: Holy crap I was doing it right the whole time! Let's go!]
Thanks for making a video on this! This is definitely gonna help out some people! :D
Wowie this will be really helpful, thank you so much
This tutorial was incredibly helpful (and the very reason I was drawn to try doing my own chromatics as well), thanks a bunch!
One question though, how do you make vocals do falsetto or vibrato for certain songs, Phantasm for example? Haven't touched FL Studio in a long time and I never really got to fully understand plugins and the such but I'm doing my best to search around yet I thought I'd ask as well how you do it.
Once again, very helpful tutorial!
He's gonna show us how he made the funny Markiplier chromatics,
This tutorial was very good and short compared to the last one I had seen, thank you!
brooo thanks so much!! Now i can finally make songs with my own chromatics :)
Friggin awesome tutorial. Literally been seeking a chromatic tutorial for a while. Thank you so much. I do have a question.
Can you make a chromatic using sound effects? Like ripping a certain character’s voice or roar from a movie or game? I’ve tried before but it sounded really bad. Is there anyway to make it sound nice?
No. clean vocals will tune great. Anything that sounds gritty or gutty will not tune amazingly
@@howtoavenge1016 I had a feeling. Could I possibly cut out a certain section of the audio clip and then loop that section multiples times to make the sound wave more even and clean?
@@raptorsaurusrex4341 i suppose, but good luck finding a loop point that sounds good. honestly, i wouldn't bother with stuff like that. keep em more as untuned vocals if need be, and then use new, cleaner samples for the actual chromatic scale
It's so nice from you that you're making something like this! This will help so, so SO many People!

This did prove to be useful, however, every time I tried saving my chromatic as a .wav (or any other file for that matter) the finished file disappeared from my computer entirely. Really wish I could illustrate how frustrating it is to finish the same chromatic four times before realizing it'd never work.
Maybe someday, or maybe someone could help? ;;
are you in trial mode beacuse if so then thats why if you are 5:47 trial mode user, go to the master track, open the Edison plugin, set it to On Input and press play on your newTone chromatic.
This will record the audio into Edison, and you can save the audio file from there.
