I love how every game Ethan is in he has to suffer extreme hand trauma before the game really gets started.

Since resident evil 7-9 is a trilogy and Ethan is...retired. I wonder if we'll get to see him in a flashback in Re9 as a kid or something. He's just chillin on the swingset and then boom, breaks his hand.

It’s terrifying how the varcolac retains some human facial features, it’s not like a normal werewolf.
Indeed. It really does drive home the theme of humans being forced to take wolf qualities to the point of body horror taken to a horrific degree well more then usual anyway. A pretty unique way of showing us how werewolves in general are straight up horrifying.

Yep, the uncanny valley is strong with the varcolac
The face reminds me to Parasite Eve 2's "Chasers": humans heavily mutated into four legged creatures similar to alpacas. Like the Varcolacs, they retain a head with disturbingly human features which cause a pretty Uncanny Valley effect.

TFW you realise the Maiden demo is you playing as one of the Maidens who tried to escape the dungeon but got turned into a Moroica when they got caught :( and in RE8 you're likely shooting who you played as in the demo
Ingrid was the woman you played as, and her necklace drops off of her in the dungeon

Playing through the game for the first time, I thought that Castle Dimitrescu would be the highlight of the game. After beating that area, I kept thinking “there’s no way the rest of the game can top that.”
Then House Beneviento happened...
BY FAR the highlight of the game. Now I always get chills when I realize I have to go in there.
The part with the baby still freaks me out after my 3rd playthrough even though I know how to perfectly avoid it, my heart still pounds like crazy absolute nightmare fuel. I hate when you finally put the fuse back in and you feel cornered like the elevator won't open fast enough.
After awhile, it gets less scary, but it can still get ya
Exactly, one time I didn’t even see the baby during the elevator sequence. The other time, it was next to me so I had so circle a table in the projector room

What's wrong with you caring about your kid is not supposed to stop she has a heart.
Her kidnapping Rose and acting like she belongs to her now that's creepy.
What makes her psycho is experimenting on people to try and make them vessels for her dead daughter's consciousness which she believed was in the mould then dismissing them as failed experiments when it didn't work. And having an innocent baby not only kidnapped but cutting the poor kid to bits as well.

I kinda wish the Hag should’ve been a separated character from Miranda and being the penultimate boss and transformed into a mold version of Grim Reaper according to the Village Of Shadows book. Having her own army of the mold version of dark magicians/sorceress would be an awesome addition as well, similar to the cultists from RE4 game.
I kinda also wish they should’ve added more enemies for Moreau’s stage where a bunch of mold mermaids and mermen lurking and swimming around the lake. Now I really hope to see a new DLC for RE8 in the future.
They could have also made Dimitrescu the final boss, since she seemed the most villainous out of the bunch. Either way, Miranda was a bit anticlimactic, especially after the insanity with Heisenberg and the main story twist
Well the book actually was the four bosses, it is kinda obvious after you fight them. VAMPIRE bat? Reaper weaver (doll strings), giant fish, and a gear horse? I mean... It couldnt be anymore obvious....
The three daughters are not that scary but fantasizing getting freaky with one them is just a bad idea for real.

I almost had a fucking heart attack after you get the fuse and it's bursts through the door on my first two playthroughs
I was expecting the Mia Mannequin to come alive considering every aspect of that sequence pointed to it, from the fact that the enemy could possess dolls to the damned thing up and dissapearing.
I ran down the hallway like :ok come on out and scare me, so when I saw that thing I almost shat myself.

The soldaten remind me of the regenerators, how one is just sitting there in a factory/lab type setting and then he gets up after you pass by him

I heard on Resident Evils wiki that the baby monster is either a hallucination, or a real creatures who's appearance was altered by Donna's Illusionary power, in which case its true form is unknown. Either way its infant features are likely a manifestation of Ethans fear of what Rose could turn into, as well as his guilt in failing to protect her this failing as a parent.

When I first saw the baby, that was the first time I got scared. The fact I don’t have any weapons to protect myself got me worried. Not to mention how loud the baby got when it kept crying. When I was under the bed, I keep freaking out cause I could not turn around to see the baby.
To understand Heisenberg's Soldats, the movie Frankenstein's Army is worth a watch. It's available on VUDU to stream for free with ads. Not only visually but thematically, the idea of making an army of mechanical re-animated corpses are shared by both the movie and Heisenberg's factory level.

The only other BOW that scared me more on a 1st play through than the fetus were the Regenerators in RE4. Then again, I was a lot younger when 4 was new. The whole industrial aspect of Heisenbergs factory reminded my of the creepy atmosphere of Revelations 2, as well as the creepier enemies.
RE8 also crushed it with the enemy variety. It’s nice when Capcom hears valid criticism.
Daughters put in scare list. Some people are scared of bugs. Bugs turn into the Daughters. So I agree bug ladies are scary to some lol
The Varcolac is one of the most unsettling creatures I've ever seen. The ripped open mouth, the iridescent eyes with contracted pupils, the clearly human features still present.....
And the fetus, omfg, I was watching a playthrough and nearly shat myself. No matter how crazy these games get, I never expected THAT.

I just finished playing this game and thought that same sheit. Even recited some of David's lines from Alien-Avent, when he messages Weyland-Utani about making Shaw into an experimental guinea pig for "the black goo".

Fetus Baby was the most disturbing thing in the game by far. As soon as I seen the umbilical chord on the ground leading into the hallway and the lockers to hide in I knew things were about to get wild.
Donna was unfairly beautiful, I honestly tried to hate her; however I just couldn't.
I was expecting Mauroe here. That fishman with a body of eyes and tendrils really creeped me out.

Werewolf jumpscare got me in this game looking out that window right after it says "look outside" I should have known. But I looked out and noticed the numbers painted on the barn was deep in thought about what they mean....and then jump scare... I've never been more scared during anything movie or game...I had to stop playing and breathe for 30 min to slow my heart back down. Embarrassing I know but it got me good.
This was my favourite resident evil by far somehow
It deserves it. Feel like it took notes on what made RE4 so critically acclaimed and did some parallels but also did it's own thing.

I really wish they had a transformation cut scene for the Varcolac, or at least a file detailing it.
There is a file detailing how one was made, in the area you get the magnum in. Written by Moreau, talking about how he was experimenting on a Cadou implanted person, by injecting wolf blood into their spine. Which caused them to transform into a Varcolac and kill Moreaus assistant. He also mentioned that he couldn’t restrain it, and that he had to feed it now.
