I produced this song after Teddy had his accident and he was paralyzed from the shoulders down. I coached and coached him until I convinced him he could do it. We did it line by line. When he heard the finished vocal assembled he cried like a baby. I was so proud that he trusted me.
Thank you Nile Rodgers for sticking with Teddy Pendergrass to finish this song that I consider a masterpiece of a ballad. It’s the strongest memory I have of my younger brother who I lost when he was just 20 years old. It brings me to tears every time I hear it no matter how many times I listen to it. It’s a crime of the worst degree that it was never included in any of the numerous greatest hits albums recorded by TP. My heart will forever be tied to this song and the movie. God bless you Mr Rodgers and God forever bless Teddy Pendergrass for his amazing voice. Thank you for this amazing song that has forever touched my life and many others. 🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️
I remember my Dad every time I here this, I cry every time it I watch this movie because i miss him so much, it reminds me of how close we where, me and my little brother. He was a good man and the best father a kid could ask for, this is a Trigger for those fond memories, the 80s was just built different, it felt different, we were always together. I miss you so much Dad I never felt the same after you died and probably never will until I see you again. Thanks for this upload.
Me and my brother (34&36) are so bonded by our childhood, this song and the film. When he was 16 my old man shipped him off to the Army (UK) and I lost my way. Years on I ended up traveling to many countries and my bro served in many wars. Now days I live in Canada and he the UK, we grew close in our older days and I miss him so much. We cried and hugged each other the last time I left the UK 2 years ago. I randomly played this before work the other day and started crying in the shower....something in tis song triggered me over and over again. I ain't one for sharing this stuff, but here it is.
That was a beautiful story, I was looking for the sound track for the longest time loved the movie off course but like you the song really mean a lot to me. I finally reconnected with the love of my life after 47.years. And this morning after so much persistence I found it and didn't know the words to the song and realized how appropriate they are to my reconnect.
Me and my brother (34 and 36 also!) were inseparable as kids, and there are quite a few film soundtracks like this that bring me to tears when I hear them because they remind me of the good times we had together. “Somewhere Out There” from American Tail and the end credits for E.T. are the two main culprits. We’ve been living in separate states for many years now, so I really miss him too. It’s cool to hear someone else in such a similar situation. I hope you get to see each other soon and the years just melt away.
It's because he didn't put it into his album which now the song belongs to the record label. It would of been number 1 and the song and film would be more known today, but teddy unfortunately died
To this day I still feel like an orphan 43 now days & this song, hits real different in the feels. Dead beat father, mother, but survived life & did well, womanised, drank, drugs flawed individual… Wished I was a cyborg to explain the emotionless feeling, but that’s the game of LIFE ! We all equals mate 🇦🇺 from Sydney Australia hope this finds you all well & just do what you gotta do to make it work.
Love the film and love this song. Remember watching it on VHS with my little brother like it was only yesterday. Have only revisited it recently as he died at 45. I miss him awfully but no one can take away my memories. Thank you Chris for being you.
Despite I am an 80s kid (and proclaiming "Back to the Future" as my favorite movie ever. Ever.) I just watched that 1985 film for the very first time. Recorded from German TV. They usually cut out the end credits completely, so I came here to YT to watch it. Thank God I did and could discover this wonderful song. Reminds me of the great "If ever you're in my Arms again" by Peabo Bryson of 1984. Thank you and rest in peace, Teddy :)
To me, it’s a song about returning finaly at home after being left alone, powerless, unloved by life...Words in this song are so beautiful, strong, meaningful. That song really touches my heart.
I wish this song was available on iTunes it’s so touching that it reminds me of my life and how far I’ve come and even when things go bad in life there’s always a place I can go that’s home it’s so beautiful ❤️😢
Ever since I watched the movie Daryl, this song has had a very special meaning to me. I've lived in New York, Oklahoma, Texas, California and now back to Oklahoma. Somewhere I belong. But where?
Thanks for uploading and adding lyrics! I've noticed that all the lyric sites I've seen have incorrect lyrics for this song. Thought I'd point out the misunderstood lyrics (from an official source): "Where am I going" (sounds like, but it's not 'Where I'm going'); "Waking up in *empty beds* alone" (rather than emptiness); "Somewhere I can call, my *own*" (not Home); "Open your *arms* to me" (not heart); "*Pulled* me from the storm" (Not Pull); "*Made* the heartache..." (rather than Make); That's it!
Thanks man , b4 i read your comment I noticed what you pointed out from lead vocal lyrics and the harmony chorus, i thought it was cool n realizing the song was is jubda adjustable ...to fit circumstances, either way just the getting the drift of such a relatable song can, does kinda touch my heart , thank you for the insight, I'm writing versions out now....peace
I know it's in the movie about the robot kid. But this sounds like one beautiful gospel song. Jesus is the way the truth, and the light. No man comes unto the Father except through me. Jesus said. There is nothing like the presence of Jesus. His presence has so many benefits its hard to describe all of them. He sends the comforter, and we can have the fullness of His Spirit. Hoping you are blessed through His mighty name. And escape this worlds sorrows.
@@willpowell7039 How you figure that ? They thought Daryl was dead that the sad part but the lady scientist did something to in effect bring him back to life and return him to the Richardsons his adoptive family who were of course happy glad he was still allright only bad part after this is if the military found out he wasn't destroyed killed then they would probably come after him again.
Yeah that was truly every 80's boys fantasy come true (in the film)...remarkable, majestic aircraft. What none of us new until we grew up, was that would literally be impossible, even with a robot brained boy. The blackbird takes many ground crew and start carts to fire up. And it doesn't hold much fuel on the ground, because it leaks out.

Wow. Not only would Barret Oliver be my husband now if he were gay but I'd be a lot happier. I so grew up on this move. It is totally when I first "knew". I'm a 1980s child. Born May 16th 1980. Those days are gone though. I can still watch D.A.R.Y.L. though and have my dreams having a son to love even though that wont be reality.

this song only went to #76 on the R&B charts in 1985!!!
Should have charted higher than that, especially on Black Radio. They should have jumped all over this song!
