About ten years ago or so I was left to do the sound check with Rosalie in a small auditorium here in Idaho. She was was a pleasure to visit with. She had, in addition to her lovely personality and musical and story telling gifts, a great sense of humor. We spent about an hour sitting on the stage in that empty auditorium trading stories about the songwriters we admired. In previous years I had booked Townes Van Zandt, Ray Wylie Hubbard, David Olney, Richard Dobson, Jack Williams.....to play for our arts council. Rosalie had played here before, and so had Utah Phillips. She knew them all and had the stories to tell. She told me of meeting Howlin' Wolf at her first Newport Folk Festival in '66 and of a bus trip with a group of singer songwriters, among them Townes and Guy Clark. After a discussion of the merits of different whiskies they had the bus driver stop at a liquor store so they could have a tasting on the bus. She was the real deal and I treasure that short time I was so lucky to spend with her.
Rosalie Sorrells is a very special musician and performer. I love her music and the stories she tells about her music. I came across her quite by accident and she has enriched my thoughts and feelings ever since.
