  • @mikedeacon7699

    Hi there, great video. Sorry for the noob question, but it sounds like for any led button you do have to have a seperate cable/harness? My setup I'm working on I have 2 led buttons to represent the coin buttons and was wondering what to hook up to make the Led work.

    • @RetroactivearcadeCa
      @RetroactivearcadeCa  5 років тому

      Hi Mike, First be sure to know what voltage of LED you have, it will be 5V or 12V. Usually they are 12V unless they are Sanwa (clones as well) or RGB buttons. You can daisy chain the positive power from your power supply to both buttons (power side) as well as the ground (negative side). If you do not have a power supply to go off of or splice in to, you can use an old power charger from a cell phone or something as long as it has the right voltage. If your voltage is too high it will burn out the LED right away, if it is too low it will glow very dim and it will drastically shorten the life expectancy of your LED!

    Hey man! Good stuff....I always check here for product info! Question, I'm reworking a Stern Scramble cocktail cab....the CPs are really shallow from leaf buttons. Does Sanwa only come in 24mm and 30mm? The deep shaft Happ buttons won't fit, and Sanwa I would have to cut. Is there no short stem 28mm buttons available? If not...I may have to contact someone in China and setup shop! I prefer the Happ, but the Sanwa connection.

    • @RetroactivearcadeCa

      Hey Scotty, Yes Sanwa only makes the 2 sizes of buttons but there is a hybrid option available on our website. It is a 28mm american style HAPP pushbutton with a Sanwa grade microswitch that is halfway in length between the traditional HAPP buttons and the Sanwa buttons. • @JesseFowlerDesigner
    @JesseFowlerDesigner 3 роки тому +1

    At 5:05 you state that the connector at the top can be used to wire two buttons to do that same thing. On the switches I use this is not the case. The NC and NO represent Normally Closed and Normally Open. The NO tab in the middle is what closes the circuit when you hit the button. The NC would be like holding down the button when you are not and when you click it the button would briefly stop. To wire two buttons to trigger the same action just join a wire to the second button off of the second tab just like the ground wires are doing. Chain off of the same wire back to the control board. Perhaps your switches are different but it might be worth saying that if your switch has NC written on it, chain off the same wire that goes to NO.

    So ultimarc goldleaf buttons with an ipac4 can't be mapped to multiple buttons of the same keystroke ?? Such as if you have a separate 4 way controller; or spinners with buttons to match player 1's setup. Or if it's a coin button yet you have coin door's. Talking the standard ultimarc. Goldleaf buttons here. Almost to the wiring part of my build. I have an Ipac 4 and a Ipac ultimate. I got some stuff from you and some from ultimarc :)

    • @RetroactivearcadeCa
      @RetroactivearcadeCa  2 роки тому +1

      Forgive me if I am answering you wrong but your question is a bit confusing. You can map as many buttons to the same key stroke/input on and ipac or I/O you want you just have to do it right. The gold leaf buttons (we call them fusion buttons on our website) only have an open or closed position so you can connect the ground like you would along the daisy chain. As for the action wires can be daisy chained but should be directly connected to the input on the ipac. The I/O will not allow for this so you will have to daisy chain them. The only negative to this scenario is that all connections will be live at all times as in: both joysticks will be active so if your buddy moves the other one while playing it will mess you up. The only issue double wiring buttons comes with microswitch connections. One has to be connected to the open side and the other has to be connected to the closed so the circuit completes properly when pressed. Hope this answers your question.

    Can you go into more detail about how to dasiy wire buttons, like putting side buttons on a cabinet for pinball action that share directions with primary buttons?

    • @RetroactivearcadeCa
      @RetroactivearcadeCa  3 роки тому

      They can share the daisy chain ground but you will have double wire or daisy chain the button action wire separately if that makes sense? Basically split the the lead wire to each button, in mame both buttons are connected the same, just take note that with jamma your primary button connection is normal but your secondary connection is on the microswitche's open connector (the third
      "usually" unused connection)
      Watch my coin door video that explains having a coin button and coin door set up, they are basically the same.

      Are you using Jamma or Mame? If you are using Jamma you will need a "Jamma Harness" , if you are using Mame, you will have to wire them to the arcade encoder on your own with individual wires you have to make or you can buy single 1 meter wires with .187 connectors from us if you like.

    I'm buying a relatively cheap USB encoder board, it comes with two wires. Red and black. Would I put the black on the ground prong? and the red on the middle prong? Or will that type of connection not work.

    • @RetroactivearcadeCa
      @RetroactivearcadeCa  5 років тому +1

      That sounds correct for a microswitch connection. Is it a zero delay encoder? That is the only one I can think of that provides individual connections to each button, in this case you would be correct.

      Yes, feel free to add as much to it as you like, there is no max length or connection amounts that you have to worry about. These harnesses are "universal", that usually means they are good for most applications but some of the time you have to modify them to get them to work for your application.

    Not sure if you can help. I have a situation where I have a Pacman machine with pac to JAMMA adapter, and then JAMMA to game elf adapter. I now have a new icade control panel with trackball. Ok I changed panels to have 3 fire buttons. Here is my problem. The original wiring is to the Pacman side and there is no 3rd fire button, so while I can make 2 buttons work even on original, by flipping the dip switch, I’m not sure how to get them actually working on my new 3 fire buttons on this panel. Hello, I would say that if the button is connected properly and responds when pressed it would be a settings issue in MAME or if you are in a jamma board you may have to change the settings in your menu. The only other issue may be a crossed wire somewhere but that would probably give you two different actions when pressed.

    around 8minutes you tried to turn the switch holder into the chrome led button... “wouldn’t work for the video”... more like a pain in the ass for 3/4 of all my chrome buttons... its likely something due to the chrome plating or bad mold, but its a real pain in the ass.
    i feel like i am going to break or snap the switch holder, so i put in the switch into the holder to try get a firmer grip and i still have a fear of snapping them or the tabs on the chrome side.
    it really doesn’t help that the lock/grip on the nut doesnt grip very well unless you really torque the nut on, im not a fan of torquing plastic parts more than hand tight... so trying to twist the holder in, just spins the entire setup.
    if you have any tips or tricks to get passed this that would be great, next step is to bust out some vice grips and wreck the threads... just causing more grief.

    • @RetroactivearcadeCa
      @RetroactivearcadeCa  5 років тому

      When this happens it is usually because it is the wrong lamp holder for the button you are trying to use. That is the case for sure if you are having trouble with all of the buttons, then you need the right lampholders. If it is just a couple and all the parts look the same it could be that the spring inside the button has come out past it's stopper area and into the lampholder section not allowing the lampholder to seat into the button molding properly. Other than that it can just be a bad mold and there was excess plastic left behind from the manufacturing process, compare 2 buttons to see if that is the case and use an exacto knife to cut away the excess. If you break the tab the button is useless to be kind to it, that's all I've got for ya.

      About 3/20 buttons went smoothly, the rest were hell, and 2 snapped the clips. I had seen another website selling a very similar looking holder, but it was white. So it could have been a mixup?
      Customer service told me it would be cheaper to just buy new ones rather than shipping the broken ones back and I was gonna just order 2 new ones, but the shipping alone was like $17.50 for 2 buttons (edmonton to regina) lol! also the panel i installed it in is only temporary until i build my cabinet, so who knows if i snap more, so i figure i will wait to order more.

    great video, do you have one on wiring controllers? I have an 8-way controller problem that's driving me nuts. it won't do diagonals in 2 corners, I can rewire them and sometimes it will change the corners, but there's always 2 that don't work on retropie. I've tried new controllers and also new retropie images. Any ideas?

      What kind of joystick are you using?

    • @joshdrinkard398
      @joshdrinkard398 4 роки тому

      it's an eg start 8 way joystick. I think I finally figured it out. I didn't realize that there were specific ports on the usb board that the controller plugged into which makes me an idiot :P, but thanks for the reply

      Amps always matter but if it is a regulated power source you should be fine.

    Does anyone here know how to wire a 3-position (off/on 1/on 2) push/pull switch to an usb encoder board. I’m trying to use this switch to turn parking lights (position on 1) highlights (position on 2) on my truck simulator. I don’t know enough about this so as not to fry my gaming computer. I figure I better look for advice from the pros. Anybody? Thanks

    I'm new. Go ahead, flame me. Haha. So, wiring a Ms Pacman control panel for a jamma. How do I wire the 2 player button? Do I use the player harness?

    • @RetroactivearcadeCa
      @RetroactivearcadeCa  10 місяців тому +1

      Hello, yes you would use the 2nd player wire from the JAMMA harness with a ground to wire PL2 assuming your harness is full and uncut. Each side of your JAMMA harness constitutes as a Player side i.e. one side is Player 1 and the other side is Player 2, each wire (Color coded) is the same action for each player. Hope that helps!

    I still don’t know how to wire a 2 prong button after watching this. I’m coming with almost no experience. For instance on my jamma it says the brown wire for player 1 start. I get my brown wire and there is only one terminal on the wire to connect to my button but my button has a positive and negative terminal. Then I followed a green wire that was supposed to be player 1 coin and it let to a small white adapter with a black and a yellow wire going into it. I have no idea what those wires are. Very confused 😐

      The basis for these switches and harnesses are very simple. The wires, for instance "Brown" will be connected to the positive side of your button and the negative side gets connected with the long black wire with 32 connections on it "daisy-chain" connections as we call it. This will string across to all of your buttons and joystick switches on their negative sides. As for the green with the white plastic connector, this is a bit harder but you will have to cut it off and add an extension or connector or both to get it to your coin button switch. All the buttons should have the identical connection setup with a different color coded wire to each one. As per this diagram: cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0008/4262/9179/files/JAMMA_Wire_Harness_Map.pdf?18261520453617373338

      Retro Active Arcade thank you so much for the reply this explains it perfectly! My main issue was that the harness and buttons I was using just weren’t compatible. I did not know about the daisy chain that explains what all the other terminals are for lmao! Thank you so much sorry for my ignorance

      For an on/off scenario, I am not 100% on that but you can program the ports individually to some extent. What you are asking about might work better with a Mini Pac. Here is a link to the info and specs on our website.
