A musician's band if there ever was one. I discovered Kings X when the Faith Hope Love album dropped in 1990 and became obsessed. Their ten year, 7-album run from '88 to '98 is some of the best rock music ever recorded in my somewhat humble opinion.
Really great and underrated band. They were on the verge of hitting it big in the early 90s, but I think they were hard to categorize. "Over My Head" would be another good one to check out.
Love Kings X. Knew them years before they were Kings X, back when they started as The Edge in 1981 in Springfield Mo. My wife was in there first video in 1982.
@@ssRocker-nn3tp yeah, I know. I have 2 of them I bought at the little record store across from SMSU in Springfield Mo. I also have their promotional folder they sent around. At that time they were still called The Edge and had 4 members.
King's X although not appreciated by most were extremely loved and appreciated amongst musicians. They had Beatles harmonies mixed with groove, funk, gospel, blues, metal, and grungy before grunge was a thing. Love these guys.
OMG! My favorite reactors are reacting to one of my all time favorite bands. I hope you love them as much as I do. They have everything. Three dudes with so much talent together. Funk, soul, rock. Three part vocal harmonies. Watched them live so many times. They are soooo great. My first time watching a reaction to them. Love you guys.
A criminally underrated band from Texas, Kings X never received the recognition they deserved. I would love to see you do more reactions from this band.
Great band that's very diverse. Mosty musicians know and respect them. Been a fan since '89. Have seen them live three times so far. King's X were/are a band that is/was tough to categorize. Christians that openly advocate smoking weed and have a gay band member. Beatlesque vocal harmonies, heavy riffs and awesome soul singing. Can't put this great band in a box. 🤘
Give "Dogman" a shot. These guys are the real deal. Paul Schaffer used to cover Kings X songs during commercial breaks of the David Letterman Show all the time. "We Were Born to Be Loved", "Over My Head", "I'll Never Be the Same", "I Can't Help It", "Lost in Germany", "Flies and Blue Skies", "Black the Sky", "Pillow"......The list goes on. It's music for musicians....but in a kind of different way from regular "progressive rock". It does appeal to the prog rock fanbase in a lot of ways though. Their songwriting is very unique and in my opinion, highly underrated and underappreciated.
Great band from Houston! Best band you may have never heard of. This is one of those bands that never really took off, but if you were to ask other popular bands in the 80’s and 90’s “who their favorite bands are” most said King’s X
Not. from Houston but moved there in 85 and they got their first album made .However ,their early years, 79-84 , were in Springfield ,Missouri. That's where they were formed.
Your next song should by "Over My Head." Been into this band for 30 years. Saw them at least 20 times...just last winter here in Dallas, and going to see them again in a few weeks....They are a very deep rabbit hole with MANY albums. You're right this was 1990, old videos. This tune was sung by the guitarist Ty. Doug is the bassist and lead singer, and he is a screamer with a very soulful voice.
My band opened up for King’s X, here in Jersey, back in the early 2000’s. Some of the nicest dudes you’ll meet. They have a deep catalogue that is worth delving into.
King's X are one of those bands that have members switch off on lead vocals. And all three sing great backup vocals. A few great King's X songs that I love: "Goldilox" "King" (re: Martin Luther King) "Over My Head"
King's X (king sex 😂) had potential to be huge, but never broke out of their cult status... The trio of dUg (Doug) Pinnick (vocals & bass), Ty Tabor (vocals & guitar) and Jerry Gaskill (drums & vocals) were a unique mix of funk rock, The Beatles, and prog rock... They were often marketed as a 'Christian rock' band, but they weren't happy w/ that tag - dUg Pinnick came out as gay, and he's currently 72 yrs old (the oldest member of King's X) and recently recorded albums w/ former Dokken guitarist George Lynch and KoRn's drummer Ray Luzier as KXM. King's X was signed in the 80's by Megaforce Records (who had signed Metallica, Anthrax, Manowar, etc.) and debuted in 1988 w/ the album 'Out of the silent planet'... 2nd album "Gretchen goes to Nebraska" (1989) sold decently and is considered their key record... 3rd album 'Faith, Hope, Love' (1990) had this single "It's love" but sales weren't any better... Atlantic Records took up the band's releases w/ the self-titled "King's X" album (1992)... followed by 'Dogman' (1994) which did better... but after 'Ear candy' (1996)... King's X was dropped by Atlantic and deep in debt. Opting to carry one, King's X signed w/ indie label Metal Blade Records and released a string of albums, but never recovered their momentum... After their 2008 album 'XV'... drummer Jerry Gaskill suffered health problems and delayed the release of any new music. King's X still stayed active and toured over the years... They recently released a new album 'Three sides of one' in 2022 their 15th in total. More King's X songs - "We are finding who we are"... 'Dogman'... 'Summerland'... 'Goldilox'... 'Everywhere I go'... 'Let it rain'... 🔥🤘🤘
Kings X is one of my favorite bands ever. I listen to them for maybe 10 years straight. At least a couple of songs per day, more often the whole record. I listened until I overdosed LOL😁 I can't decide which record or song I love most. They are all great. Too many great songs to be listed. Gretchen goes to Nebraska "The burning down" it still gives me the chills today when listening to this song. Although I overdosed on their music at a certain point i never get tired to listen to their music because "It's love". Cheers.
Seeing them live is better than mdma. They make you feel so good to be there with them. When I saw them they jammed with the opening band for the encore until Ty's amp blew up and then expressed their regret to the crowd they couldn't go on for another hour. I went there by myself, Ridglea Theater Fort Worth 2006, because no one I knew was into them but I felt like I was in a community.
Over My Head. One of my favorite live bands. King's X and Living Colour at the Bronco Bowl in Dallas was one of the best live concerts I attended and I attended a lot of them.
I was in a club in Houston with some friends to see a band. This really tall, imposing guy with a rad haircut and obvious style came in. He was a wearing a really cool jacket that said "King's X" on the back. One of my friends asked me about it and I went on for several minutes explaining what kind of band they were. A couple of days later I realized the guy in the jacket was the bass player. I had been talking like I knew all about them and I expect he overheard. I felt pretty stupid...At least I had been saying positive things about them. Heh...
Arguably the most underrated band of the last 40 years! Same 3 dudes together still after all this time! You should check out some of one’s Dug songs on as it’s Ty singing lead on this one. Highly recommend’Over my head’ and ‘Dogman’ 💙🙏🤘

This was the first King's x video I ever saw, which had been recorded during Headbanger's Ball from the previous night. It totally changed my world and I was an instant fan. Just wait until you hear one of their songs where Dug (bassist) does the singing - Hooo BOY!
My favorite band. Choose from any of their albums and you will find amazing material. I can't even suggest and album of theirs as my favorite. They all are. So. Much. Soul.
Saw them right after 9-11 (November) in Nashville and again this past July. Absolutely f’n amazing live performance. The two best three piece bands EVER hands down is kingsx and Rush. Check out the songs out of the silent planet, over my head, faith hope love, lost in Germany, send a message… can’t just pick one… or a few… and the rest of Gretchen… the entire albums.
Think of them as "Sly and the Family Sabbath." Great reaction! Yeah, those early videos especially tend to distract from the music a bit. This band has allowed itself to grow and evolve over the years to a crazy wide range of tunes, but the groove, guitar, and soul runs through it all. You might enjoy some lesser known songs without official videos to explore the catalog some more. ("Shoes," "Ocean," "Believe,"and "Everybody Knows A Little Bit Of Something" would start to cover a bit of it and still leave the better known songs for you.) Again, great reaction as usual!
Love the King's X. Only got to see them twice. Not nearly enough!!! Ty is fantastic, Dug P, great singer. Ty sings this, however. You need to see the live version of a song they do called Believe, from the Live All Over The Place cd......do it!! So cool.
WOW! Congratulations on reacting to such a deep cut. This is one of my favourite bands. They never made it big but had a faithful, cult following. You might like to try, "Over My Head" from their "Gretchen Goes to Nebraska" album. It's got a great riff & a fantastic guitar solo. Love & light from The UK.
One of my absolute favorite bands. Seen them live a dozen times. Ironically you started with a song that does not feature their lead singer. The bass player with the mohawk usually handles the lead vocals. This song has the guitar player singing lead. Check out their songs Over My Head & Black Flag.
@@carlgibbons5777 Doug sings 75 - 80% of their songs , however Ty sings some of my favorite songs by them including Mississippi Moon & Take The Time (new from their latest album)

This is my favorite band of all time!! They are Amazing and recognized by top bands as their influence!! - Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam…. Haven’t even following them for 40 years now yes they’re still together and just released their latest album, totally agree that this ridiculous, silly video totally takes away from the beauty and intensity of the song, especially the musicianship and beatlesque harmonies which they are known for - on top of their have a groove rock! Please give them another listen! Check out there song called Dogman, Pray and “We are finding who we are”! !!🙏🏻🙏🏻 🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘‼️‼️
King’s X fan here. I’ve been a fan since 91. This song is about God. The Bible says that God is love. Its love that holds it all together. It’s love that’s holding back the weather and the same will let it go. Get it?

I agree with you, the video is SILLY and I never cared for it. Here's the THING: DOUG the BASS player is more the main LEAD SINGER (It's Love it sing by the GUITAR PLAYER TY Tabor) . I recommend you listen to OVER MY HEAD next by KING'S X. The video is much better and the song is FIRE. TRUST. DOUG grew up singing in the church. Listen to this song and you will KNOW why King' X is the First Church of Rock n Roll!
I see people talking about King's X = I subscribe instantly; automatically. If you enjoy reading you should check out their book "King's X: An Oral History". Apparently their whole story is being made into a movie.
Great song but the video was a distraction for sure. They are a great band. Check out the song "Black Flag". This is one of the power trio's that every one sings and the guitarist and bass player trade off with lead vocals . This one one featured guitarist Ty Tabor singing lead. He has some Beatles in his voice. But bassist Doug Pinnick brings some hard rocking' soul on songs like "Black Flag" and "Lost In Germany" and "The Big Picture". Their self titled album "Kings X" has too many good songs to count. So glad they got a reaction ! I Didn't see this one coming:)
gawd... the video is so stupid... but this was the early 90s (1991)... you would not believe how the lead singer (doug) is still in that amazing shape at 72, look him up... and can still belt it out... this song is an aberration a little though because Ty is singing lead (the guitar player)... he hates singing lead, This is a great song though, it has a totally positive message.. I think you should check out "We Are Finding Who We Are" from the same album to see Doug sing. "Over My Head" and "Summerland" from the previous albums are considered classics... but the the thing with King's X... you get three guys who can all sing... and play at a level where they influenced soooo many bands. And yet no one sounds like them (to me)... sure, it can be called heavy beatles, but the beatles never had this dynamic imo... Ty is a fantastic guitar player.. not a show off, ever... passion and power...
Thanks for the video. Kings X is a fantastic band. 4 or 5 great albums. They have religious elements in their lyrics, but it's always inclusive and uplifting. Super live band, too. I had the good luck to see them in the late 90s. Really strong performance. Check out "black flag" or "over my head"
The video was pants, but King’s X as a band are ace and still rocking big time now in their 70’s. U guys didn’t look like you enjoyed it, maybe move on to Dogman which is far more raw and energetic. Ty Tabor on guitar is also highly underrated.
I like your picture montage behind you. You can take it all down except KISS, Marvin Gaye, Hall & Oates and Prince, and you can replace the Kobe Bryant picture with Michael Jordan. Just kidding. Looks great! God bless and rock on!

I see people talking about King's X = I subscribe instantly; automatically. If you enjoy reading you should check out their book "King's X: An Oral History". Apparently their whole story is being made into a movie.
You got to do Chinchilla Little girl gone!! Woooooh 🔥🔥🔥
Easily my favorite band ever!!!
Chinchilla dropped a new single called Little Girl Gone.
Kings x is just magic.
Kings X must be reacted to with them live.
Hope someone has mentioned. These guys and Pantera. Where same town friends
gawd... the video is so stupid... but this was the early 90s (1991)... you would not believe how the lead singer (doug) is still in that amazing shape at 72, look him up... and can still belt it out... this song is an aberration a little though because Ty is singing lead (the guitar player)... he hates singing lead, This is a great song though, it has a totally positive message..
In those days most of those videos went from silly to straight trash LOL.
The video was pants, but King’s X as a band are ace and still rocking big time now in their 70’s. U guys didn’t look like you enjoyed it, maybe move on to Dogman which is far more raw and energetic. Ty Tabor on guitar is also highly underrated.
Gotta do their song "Over My Head"
Y'all should check out "Paradise/ The Spell by Uriah Heep. Trust me you will LOVE IT!
❤❤❤
Kings x is perfection like missy elliot qnd beastie
If you like this you'd probably like "3 Strange Days" by School of Fish.
I like your picture montage behind you. You can take it all down except KISS, Marvin Gaye, Hall & Oates and Prince, and you can replace the Kobe Bryant picture with Michael Jordan. Just kidding. Looks great! God bless and rock on!
You’ve got to react to “Over My Head”!!!
please, please, please do more King’s X reactions.
