    I love the new version of Thor. It actually surprised me, and it took a while to settle into the performance, but its a hell of a performance from Chris Hemsworth. First, getting into Thor shape for the shooting, then doing half the shoot in a fat suit with tons of make-up, being forced to still do action scenes in that suit... I mean, he KILLED that performance. That scene between Thor and his mother was powerful stuff.

    Here's my question about the unsnap. Spiderman, Guardians, and Dr Strange all got unsnapped back to the planet they were on when they dusted. In the end credits of Infinity War, we see a helicopter crashing, did that pilot get unsnapped high in the air, just to plummet to his death? I assume there were other airplane with other passengers who are now again dead.

    The way I understand this movie's time travel is like the book Timeline. Essentially you teleport into an alternate universe where time hasn't progressed as far yet, so you can do anything there and it'll only affect that universe, and you can steal stuff and teleport back to your universe. The only issue is that Steve showed up in his original universe again. Which I'm thinking must mean that after Peggy died (of dementia, like in Civil War) Steve decided it was time to return. So he probably told alternate-Tony about time travel, asked alternate-Hank for more Pym particles, told alternate-Steve to go marry Peggy in another alternate universe, took alternate-Steve's shield, and traveled back to MCU-universe to give the shield to Falcon. But I can understand why they didn't explain any of that stuff, people who don't care about time travel probably didn't care.

    I have read many comments these last few days that claim that they can bring in versions of the characters who have died from other points of time, and every time I read it it is no less dumb than the last time. They can't just grab other versions from the timeline and tell them "I lost my Tony, so you have to abandon your life and your people and come live with me". That would create a different timeline and that one would not have the character who would leave it. They would create a timeline where people they love are doomed to suffer just so our heroes can feel good.

What if in Spiderman Far From Home when Peter is fighting Mysterio, he projects an image of Tony Stark right into Peters head and basically tells him that he's worthless and he should give up on everything. But then Peter realises this and really begins to fight back because he's using the image of his mentor that he'll never see again against him.

    The thing with the space stone is that it could still be in the universe when Loki teleported away, so when Captain America returns the stones, they’re still in that universe. Also, when Captain America went to the past to Peggy, he ages alongside her in that parallel universe, then he returns back to the main universe using pym particles (and maybe nanotechnology). The reason Cap returns back so shortly after he left is because of something the Hulk said before, something like “he’ll be gone for as long as he needs for him, but to us it’ll only be a few seconds” or something like that.

      @ripbruz no. He would be crushed, as thanos is stronger than the hulk. In infinity war, he knocked cap down with a soft punch, bare handed.
      Also the enchantment is the same from the comic, who ever lifts it, gets granted the powers of thor. Also, hence why the hammer channels the power coming from inside thor, and actually doesnt provide anything itself.
      Its how asgardians artifact work, remember thor magic belt? It also does provide inherit strength the same way to any below asgardian level.

    Endgame was fantastic. The final battle was stunning but my only downer was that you dont see that much fighting. Its more following the "hot potato" gauntlet.
    They dont address Cap taking Soul stone back to Vormir and face the Red Skull?
    When Steve goes back in time, is it pre or post First Avenger? Cause theres either a frozen Cap under the whilst he's with Peggy or another Cap off fighting WW2 and up against Red Skull?

    Most interested in what Falcon and Bucky will be up to after this. I adored Agent Carter (the first season moreso) and appreciated the Jarvis cameo. Bring it back for another season! I reckon Agents of Shield might be the only avenue through which the average person's experience of the snap and subsequent time lapse will be explored, but I hope I'm wrong.

  • @BLAMO1973

    The movie was great but what nags at me much more than the time travel paradoxes is how could half the population disappear and reappear five years later without a fundamental collapse of the economy and society? HBO's the Leftovers is a good example of a semi-realistic examination of the consequences of the disappearance of only 2% of the population and losing a full 50% would be many fold worse.
    But while losing half the population would obviously be hugely traumatic, I actually think the return of half the population after a five year gap would be MUCH MORE traumatic if examined realistically. After five years most of the returnees would be initially homeless if they rented or had a mortgage and they would have lost their lease or had their house claimed by the bank. Almost all returnees would also be initially jobless since in the intervening years society would have changed so much by the snap that their previous jobs would either have become irrelevant or they would have been replaced by someone else. In addition, many (perhaps most) marriages of returnees would be destroyed since it seems likely that many would be remarried or in a different relationship after five years. I can't see how any future Marvel movie can portray our society after such a social and economic upheaval resulting from both the snap and the return unless they just ignore it or are set in an alternate timeline where the snap never happened.
    I'm really curious to see how Spider-Man: Far from Home deals with this since the trailer makes it look like the snap and return never even happened or the world is just able to reconstruct itself without missing a beat. Also shouldn't half of Peter Parker's classmates be five years older than him now and no longer in high school?
    Obviously in movies where we are dealing with superheroes, time travel, etc. a certain amount of suspension of disbelief is required but it seems just lazy to ignore how a disappearance and reappearance of half the world's population would devastate society.

      BLM 1973 This idea has been so untouched and it’s bothering me tremendously. What did they do after killing Thanos at The Garden? Did they try to help people that were in need? Especially after seeing when Fury and Hill were in Germany and people were screaming and a helicopter crashed into a building, it makes me a little bit frustrated that they didn’t elaborate on any of the micro-earthly activities.

    • @thisisnotme33
      @thisisnotme33 5 років тому

      Yep. Especially since they made a point of the support group scene at the beginning and getting people to move on. A good chunk of the people who come back are going to endgame themselves because they'll have nothing anymore. Not to mention all the collateral damage from the snap in the crashes and the people that just endgamed out instead of becoming psychopathic murderers. They aren't coming back. The fact that Cap goes along with this plan without considering this outcome is way out of line with his character.
      It was also really unclear what got snapped away. Between Infinity War and Endgame the language changed. In Infinity War it seemed like Thanos was only going to snap out sentient life in the form of humanoids or the like who consume resources. But in Endgame they kept saying he just snapped out "Half of all life" which makes it a much more noble cause to bring that back because that would have a much more devastating impact on the universe.
      I'm with you though that the time travel doesn't really bother me but the snap/unsnap is a little much.

      It is wrong because Steve grew old into the same present he left from. The divergent Dragon Ball Z timeline rules this movie established early on means if Steve decided to grow old in the past he returned the stones too, then he should have grown old in the past timelines new future made askew because of the botched time heist.
      And you cant say it works by closed loop time travel rules cause Loki doesn't get away with the Tesseract in Avengers 1.
      Therefore either the Old Steve Rodgers is from a different universe that the whole MCU is just a divergent timeline of and that original universe just pulled the time heist off way more smoothly, and Steve's Shield never shattered in the original timeline....or Old Steve time traveled back to his original timeline just to give Falcon a Shield he had fixed somehow.
      Also the Ancient One very clearly states her universe would fall apart with the infinity stones returned to it to hold it together. But the future goes on for at least 5 years without infinity stones in it.

    FIRSTLY HEAR ME OUT PLEASE:
    Think about this: Thanos brought this on himself! He gave Loki an army to take to New York which started the battle of New York which gives tony PTSD so him and banner build Ultron because of that New York battle. Because of this sokovia happens and Zemos family die, not only this but the sokovia accords are set in place which creates the first fight which breaks up the avengers. And then because Zemo lost his family he gets the avengers to fight each other again. This properly breaks them up and cap loses his shield. Because the avengers are broken up they can’t defeat Thanos in infinity war. Fair play Thanos has protected himself. But then due to this in endgame they time travel and kill Thanos both times for good and re do the snap. So what I’m saying is If Thanos didn’t send that army the avengers wouldn’t have been formed and he probably would’ve been able to complete the snap

    • @Monty2289
      @Monty2289 5 років тому +1

      Which is wrong. He has nothing to do with Earth politics. He sent his army there because there were literally the most Infinity stones in one location at the same time. Thanos likely didn't know anything about a force being powerful enough to stop the Chitari and he was throwing Loki a bone. As far as the scepter and the Mind stone is concerned it could be bad writing or it could be it was given to Loki well knowing neither he or Earth's forces would figured out that it housed Mind stone. It took Ultron to do that. The only other premise is that it the stones each serve a purpose and utilizing any of the other stones with the gauntlet would be pointless without first the Power Stone which is why is focus and attention was directed on that stone first. And space was next to have the energy to power it and the space stone to increase his effective range of all of the stone's abilities and effects.
      Saying he brought it on himself - well duh. The Avengers are inevitable. The plan to form them was in effect LONG before Loki shows up. They are Earth's defense force from its greatest threats and there's more threats to it than Thanos. Experimentation with Loki's scepter DID create Ultron so in a way that IS Thanos' fault but he didn't plan that.
      Thanos' snap is inevitable. I did hear you out and it sounds like a bunch of crap

    Wait so did you guys forget the part where Tony hugs Peter. The one thing that is - surprisingly - consistent about Tony's character is the persecution, hurt, and death of children kills him on the inside. The lonely boy who's bulled in school in IM3, the story of the lady who confronts him at MIT in Civil War one of the reasons he signs the Accords. Peter's death. It eats away at him and it doesn't help since all of this happened he's had visions of everyone he knows and cares about dying.
    Tbf to your argument he's literally on the verge of death so it is fucked that his wife and literally longest companion outside of Rhodey was being cockblocked. I get that. But a lot of the motivation he had wasn't just because of his family but because he lost Peter. One of the first things he says after he's rescued from space is that: "I lost the kid".

    I really wanted to like this movie more than I did. I grew up watching these movies and there was so much stuff in this that I absolutely LOVED! Unfortunately though there were a lot of things that left a sour taste in my mouth after being a huge fan of these films for most of my childhood and adult life. Captain America: The First Avenger was the first MCU movie I saw in theaters and he's been my favorite character ever since. I feel like this movie completely erased his character development from the last two captain america movies (which had the same writers and directors?). At the end of Cap 1 and during the first avengers movie, he was a man out of time longing for the past. But during winter soldier, he speaks to older Peggy and she tells him about her life and tells him to move on and start over. They set up Steve's arc to be about him finding a new family and a new life in the present day with the avengers, especially Natasha and Sam, and eventually Bucky. The fact that he threw that all away in this movie to be with Peggy feels weird and wrong to me. Like, I absolutely agree with the choice to have Steve retire. He deserves a rest after all he's done for humanity, and I think Sam was the best choice to carry on the mantle of Captain America. That being said, even disregarding the fact that him coming back as an old man screws up the time travel logic of the movie and has some very heavy implications (did he just leave Bucky under Hydra control that whole time? did he knowingly erase Peggy's family?), him choosing to go back effectively erases the entire idea of him finding a new family in the present day. Obviously we know Peggy missed him immensely, but won't his avengers family miss him too?
    *This also cheapens Natasha's beautiful sacrifice. The reason her and steve's friendship was so beautiful is that on the surface level, they're morally opposite characters, but they both want the same thing: a family and a home. Natasha died protecting her found family, had NO FUNERAL OR MEMORIAL, and then Steve left behind that same family to go be with a woman who had an entire life lived that Steve KNEW about. Not to mention the fact that Steve and Bucky's friendship, the emotional core of the last two captain america movies, barely gets any screen time in either Avengers 3 or 4, especially compared to other important relationships like Peter and Tony. Steve has every right to be selfish after what he's given to the world, but I thought his selfish act was going against Tony to protect Bucky in civil war. It was so heartbreaking watching that final scene, knowing that Bucky knew what he was about to do. Damn I wish I could love this movie more, but of all the things they called back to in this, Steve's character growth was not one of them. Instead of getting rewarded for paying attention to these characters, I felt confused and empty. There were other things I disliked about the movie, but this really tipped it over the edge for me. Needless to say, I have very mixed feelings about all this.
    That being said, here's a list of things that I absolutely adored:
    - professor hulk
    - scott lang
    - natasha's arc*
    - tony's arc was so beautiful
    - tony and morgan (I love you 3000)
    - CAP LIFTING MJIOLNIR!
    - the final battle scene was incredible and steve saying "Avengers Assemble" gave me chills!
    - NEBULA!!!!!
    - steve fighting himself
    - the scene with happy and morgan made me sob

      Natalie Rogers I agree but being devils advocate I would say he moves on originally as he has no other choice and finds a new purpose with the avengers but after going back to the past and seeing Peggy makes him realise if he lives and they are successful , then he can return and finally have a win for himself and like he said at the start of the movie she was the love of his life. I thought it was the perfect bookend to his character and was so so happy he ended up with Peggy. I’m kinda conflicted on it too be honest!

    • @princessjellyfish98
      @princessjellyfish98 5 років тому +1

      Chris Spink that's fair. I never thought about it like that! Very interesting way of looking at that scene. I feel like it would have felt more genuine if he had had more screen time with Bucky in the past two movies where they could really find closure with each other before Steve decides to leave. I also thought the scene where he sees Peggy would have been a good opportunity to actually see that she's moved on. Instead of putting a picture of him on the desk, they should have also had pictures of her husband, her kids, her shaking hands with the president, etc. Basically Steve looks in on her life and sees that she's moved on so even though he misses her, he realizes she found her home and her family and that he found that too in the present day.

    The ancient one was jus referring to the stones as weapons. All she said was without these big guns we cnt protect rselfs and the bad guys will win. Specifically she was talking about needing the time stone to beat dormmomu in Dr. Strange. TLDR - without these the bad guys will kill us

    Re: Peter at Tony's side. I took it as Pete seeing a second father figure die in front of him (presuming they had Ben croak in his arms ala Tobey-Man...)

      I saw Tony AS a (the) father figure. Parker, as far as we know in this universe, only has Aunt May. Tony offered him skills, suits, allowed him to become what he wanted, do what he believed in, etc etc. Definitely the death of a father figure

    If you pay close attention to the end battle you’ll be able to see Howard the duck. I didn’t believe it when I heard but the second go around I saw him

    The battle in Endgame is better than the battle on Titan, imo
    And I'm sure it was longer, (depending on when you think it started. : )
