When you decommission a carrier, you get the initial five billion back, minus the decommissioning fee. But what about the modules? If you have carrier modules installed do you get their cost back as well?
Thank you! Very informative. Contemplating fleet carrier ownership. I'm only a 5th of the way there as upkeep finance for at least a year, must be part of any serious plan to own a fleet carrier. Mining for credits is difficult now.
i honestly think all activities should pay around 10-20mil an hour base, with different activities paying more based on risk, no more risking a 20mil rebuy ship, with a 1mil price tag for heavy repair on a 300k combat mission
Shit, the buy price is ok, but the continual rental fees are extremely oppressive to players who aren't planning to play this game 24/7. @@tgm9991 You can easily fund one fleet carrier as a squadron, but someone has to be in charge. With the commodity market able to give the FC owner a cut (and allow them to sell any of the cargo in their own market at another station) other players are able to bring wealth onboard to pay the bills. You just have to be a little creative with this as you can't simply give another person credits.
Great video. There is one thing that I don't remember seeing and I have not been able to find the answer to. Do you know when they charge the maintenance? I would hate to say buy my fleet carrier on Friday and then get charged the maintenance fee on Saturday. Thanks!
I like your videos. They are very insight- and helpful. But I really missed you adressing the very bad "design" decision, that you actually need to use one of your ships to transfer fuel to the carrier, instead of just transfering it from carrier cargo directly to its fuel depot. This is a major flaw and should be fixed soon. It kills immersion big time! And I hope that you as a renowned youtuber adress this issue, so that Frontier might listen and change it... State of now: To refuel your carrier, you have to - travel to it, - change your ship to one with a large cargo hold, - put your Tritium into your ship, - change to a completely different menu, - and "donate" it to your own carrier. WTH?! This is not to be "toxic". (I am not angry.) But how on Earth was this released in that poor state? I really do not comprehend this. Who thought this is a good idea and actually made it like that? This should just not be given a pass. It's bad. Thank you again for your videos! They helped a lot to understand the game better. I just wished you were more vocal about the the blatant shortcomings of the game. There are many, and I'm sure I don't have to list them here for you to notice them. I like much about Elite but Frontier needs feedback, positive AND negative. As long as it is constructive. And it is constructive to say "This is bad design." Because it is and has no need to be there. I sometimes think people conflate criticism with negativity. But criticism comes with the wish to improve and is constructive by nature... Well, I wrote too much already, who's going to care anyway :) Whatever you decide, however, I will still view you as one of the most helpful youtubers when it comes to Elite. Cheers!

99% of FC owners got their carriers by making fuck-tons of money exploiting game bugs and oversights that have since been fixed by frontier. Fleet carrier ownership effectively makes you a miserable Fleet Carrier employee, always working (grinding) to maintain the staggering upkeep costs. They enable you to move your ships around the bubble while simultaneously draining enjoyment out of your gaming experience. Now get back to work, wage-slave.
We have a tritium fuel depot crew member who doesn't transfer tritium from storage. Imagine added game play where we have an option of using Imperial slaves to transfer the fuel from storage for us with the risks included if in certain populated systems.
We should be able to fit our carriers with specific types of internal modules so it could work more effectively. For exemple, if I'm an exploder I should be able to fit the carrier with something that takes away my cargo space but doubles my jump range or reduces my fuel consumption or allows me to set multiple jumps in a row...
Returning player here, have stopped playing somewhere after Horizon came out (although I played on and off, not constantly). I have come across a number of your videos (now subscribed) as I am learning all the new stuff and they are always excellent, thank you. Also, I shouldn't be surprised that people have that amount of money after all this time, but it is still staggering, haha. I am sitting at around 20 million! Are all fleet carriers always player controlled?
Wait, carriers in this game function basically like in X Rebirth and foundation, you cant actually command the ship, what is the point of having a carrier if you wont command it yourself, Spartpoint Gemini 2 and Warlord have carriers, with independent wings, you command the carrier and can order the fighters to swarm any enemy ships, is really a joy to see, and carriers can obliterate your fleet with their fifteen fighters.
Questions CMDR 1.) Do you manually take out cargo from carrier and fly to a starport to sell goods? Or can it be automated, like selling minerals from carrier to starport directly? 2.) Same as number one, do you manually refuel your fleet carrier? From Starport to fleet carrier? Or can it be automated? 3.) Does outfitting modules consume your fleet carrier's cargo? 4.) If you die, will you respawn on your carrier? (Last landing stop vs in the system, but not your last landing stop)
1 and 2) You need to use a ship to transport anything from station to FC, goods, fuel, money and Rubber ducks 3) Yes 4) As long as the Carrier doesn't move (inside system or to another one) you will respawn at the carrier, if the carrier moves a fraction of an atom then you will respawn at the last docking before the FC (repeat if you also landed on another FC before docking in yours)
Hi Dave. As a deep space fleet carrier owner, how can I provide a way for deep space explorers to relieve their cargo, since having cargo affects jump range and needing more cargo space? And, a nitty-gritty video on setting up commodity trading would be great! Trent
09:00 - Whenever i try to set a tarif it just resets to 0 every time i quit the Carrier Management menu and even when i change the tab. Is that a bug? Or are we only allowed to change tarifs at admin-systems?
I was surprised that your carrier didn't have Cartography. Tried to sell some data and that activity was not available. I understand, modules get expensive
As you can probably tell I don't currently have a fleet carrier so I apologise if it's a dumb question. How do you know the exact location where the carrier will jump to, can you for example tell it to jump to your exact location or can you find it's exact location like a signal source after setting to jump but before the carrier arrives? Also if you buy commodities from other commanders like ore/minerals via your market, how do you then sell that to a station?, do you have to buy a trading ship to ferry the good to a station or is there an easier way?
I would like to know more about how "accured costs" and "projected costs" are calculated, and what they mean in the first place. They don't add up to result in the normal upkeep cost of modules. What else is calculated into them?
Accured cost is the cost you already have to pay based on how much did you used services, Projected costs is what you will still need to pay based on time remaining until next payment cycle. If you add all expenses together you get to the big number shown above, which is how much you'll pay at next upkeep (if you don't change any service, jump, etc)
Where is carrier management?! I just bought mine from Kuo Terminal and there is nothing that says "Carrier Management"....what do I do? Where do I go?....I had to go to my right side panel, but now I don't know where the tritium storage thingy is?!
I don't think that will work. Under budget, there is both projected and accrued costs. They update every day. You would have accrued all week. The upkeep would probably be prorated. I know I suspend cartography until I need it but it really doesn't save that much.
so theoretically can you use this for extremely fast trading? say I jump it into a system that manufactures gold. I could take all of the ships I'm carrying to the station and fill them with gold and then bring them back to the carrier. I could also fill the carrier with gold and then when everything is full I can jump it into a system that's demanding gold and empty the hold and all my ships. am I correct?
That wouldn't work, you can fill up your carrier cargo and 1 ship with cargo. But not all your ships also full of cargo. You can't switch from T9 with say 500t and then get into a sidewinder, you have to dump the 500t before it would let you switch.
It's a shame you can't store more than one ship per pad, ie: two small ships in a medium pad, two medium ships in a large pad or four small ships in a large pad (44 total ships in 16 pads)?
Can you sent me an email with details about that device you are using and what version of android you are running. i just tested it on my phone and it worked just fine
I'm just not enjoying my Fleet Carrier. How/where can I sell it, or should I simply "defund" my FC and it will go away? Of course, I would get my ships off of it first. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this, was considering starting to play Elite Dangerous again to have a look at these carriers, looks like another hoop-jumping grind-fest. Between this and engineers, they don't make things player friendly. Thanks again for saving me so much time.
I'm not going to buy one, because I don't like mining much. And that pretty much means it's impossible to handle the upkeep. And so far the FCs haven't changed the game in any way for me. Am I missing something? What does the FC change for cmdrs who do not have one?
ok but for the cargo you dont say if the sqadron or friend can use cargo fror friend mission like a place want 6000 tonne can we store it in fc then jump and unloade ?
So, I don't get why the most interesting tab is Codex, when looking for info on Carrier affairs... We need more info! Can't even see what buy orders are fulfilled or if Im earning Cr at all.
Fleet Carriers Owner Guide: Short Version Don't own a fleet carrier and you are automatically better off than any CMDR who does own one. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
I don't understand the point of a Fleet Carrier. Maybe if they were to remove the "demand" feature from stations. Its not like anyone is gonna save up 25,000T of LTD then turn them in at any 1 spot because the demand will always screw you over. So then you need to jump around like 10 times to turn them all in. 200 minutes of just turning in LTD. Seems easier to just drop 550T from your cutter build at a time every hour only 60-80LY away since you don't need Overlaps at all.
Would be nice if your squadron could donate credits to your fleet carriers wallet. Idk if they can or not. Would love to use a carrier for repair and restock while doing those massacre missions in a system without a large starport now that they are a viable source of credits for the upkeep
Aye, that's the number one, need to know thing. Lots of info online at various stages of its development and some of it contradictory. If decommissioned, from what I understand you get the cost of the modules and hull back less any debt the carrier incurred and maybe a fee? What about depreciation, was it removed completely? I know you get your ships and modules back at a nearby station but what about the credits you have in the carrier (assuming you forgot to drain it before decommission). What about anything you have in storage, is that lost? This vid was very helpful as a users guide on how to operate the carrier. I was looking for more info about the risks of owning one financially.
Can u please make a video for what a FC actually is good for? Because i see no nearly upside... And/or the many funny things/Goldrushes and the old moneybalance in the Game! Actually a summery of ur Videos from years ago... ✌🏼
It makes literally ever aspect of the game easier. You can park your own personal star port anywhere. 25,000 cargo space that you can jump 500 ly. If you don't understand the benefits of that, you don't comprehend the game's mechanics. Like that's not even mentioning the fact that you can buy commodities from other players (which was never possible before).
o7. How do I make sure no one buys my Tritium in my Commodity Market ? I set it to " Buy" ? Not "Sell". I heard of guys who got cleaned out after all their hard work. Not funny
You make sure no one buys trit from the market by not setting trit to be sold. If anyone has been "cleaned out" of theirs by people buying it off them then that is purely a result of their own incompetence.
I would get 10 billion . ship + outfitting + upkeep for a year . Just to start . Then you need to play each week several hours to top up your reserves .
switch between massacre missions and robigo/sothis passenger runs . Do a week of each . I ve worked out it could be done in 6 weeks if you did about 1 / 2 hours a day . Thats for the ship . Then up to 3 / 4 bill for outfitting and cash float to get you going . (Call it 5) 10 in total Its a lot .... call it 3 months ( make it 4 months ) . That should get 5 for the ship , up to 1 bill for any out fitting ( I think that would cover every extra module and you wont be doing that I imagine , but still ) That leaves up to 4 bill for costs and any buying of fuel plus commodities and ships etc. That should last you a couple of years .. That it what Im currently aiming for . We will see anyway .

Location obviously plays a part in the revenue generation but, my question is, is it realistic to believe this thing could pay for itself? i intend on getting all of the available services to provide the full array of resources for anyone needing it.
also, if anyone knows, what do the packages look like as far as items that can be bought specifically for resale? and is there a way to sell my personal modules/ships on the carrier or is that a "package only" type thing?
also, if you have the means and desire, could you make a short video detailing that? (commodity and module/ship market/buy/sell aspect of carrier if there is any)
Your a legend, Thank u for the guide
Your comment is literally one of the first comments I've read that isn't someone complaining about the upkeep costs or the refuel system😂😂
Fortune Class....I see you are a man of culture as well!
When you decommission a carrier, you get the initial five billion back, minus the decommissioning fee. But what about the modules? If you have carrier modules installed do you get their cost back as well?
Thumbs up for Fortune Class Carrier.
Even if you suspend everything, it'll still suck your account dry within a few months of absence.
It hasn't really changed much since the beta test.
I've pretty much lost interest in Elite, because I have no patience for a non-voluntary perpetual cash grind.
And just think they NERF any type of good money making venture because “reasons” lmfao Frontier continually spits in the face of players
It's really not that bad. You can do 4 Robigo passenger missions in a python and have your carrier upkeep paid for, in just 40 mins... for a month.
@@beepy9666
What amenities does that carrier have going at one time? Is that fully outfitted and running or outfitted and all turned off? Because of that fleet carrier there are now 90 different shits I have to scan through to find the planet I want or the station. 5 billion credit money pit monstrosity is what it is. I want to know how so many people bought one without taking advantage of a glitch or an exploit that’s been nerfed or patched out.
@@davidgessin-mccully3919 I'd have to ask my squadron-mate again for the exact specifics... But IIRC, she has everything but the shipyard running constantly. Costs about 22M/wk to maintain.
She opted out of the shipyard entirely as it's a waste and people can buy their own craft elsewhere.
@@beepy9666
To run passenger missions or any other mission for that matter without maximum reputation you will not get maximum payout for said mission doesn’t matter what it is. Frontier nerfed passenger missions long ago just like board hopping and mining with mining being still the most lucrative unless you want to spend time out in the black running a road to riches route. It’s grind this grind that or you have no credits or materials and to top it off here’s this 5 billion credit ship that unless you took advantage of an exploit or you’re not exactly an “average” amount of time player you’ll never get to purchase it costs 88 million a month for the privilege of owning it and that’s not even fully outfitted Frontier literally took their dick out and pissed in everyone’s faces
i really would like it if squadrons could buy fleet carriers which are controlled by the squadron (or the people in the squadron who have the rights to control parts of the carrier)
At first FCs were supposed to be a part of squadrons but FDev for some retarded reason thought that it would be best to make them personal with absolutely no option for it to be squadron controlled
State of now:
To refuel your carrier, you have to
- travel to it,
- change your ship to one with a large cargo hold,
- put your Tritium into your ship,
- change to a completely different menu,
- and "donate" it to your own carrier.
Well, I wrote too much already, who's going to care anyway :)
Whatever you decide, however, I will still view you as one of the most helpful youtubers when it comes to Elite. Cheers!
Lol, and here I was with my hoard of 1 billion credits, thinking I should consider a fleet carrier. Maaaaaaaybe not.
i got almost 300 hours never even seen 1billion credits lol...........i got an anaconda....... lol game is fun but just little to grindy for the endgame stuff imo. i would love the corvette, and even a fleet carrier but ehh so much work........
Questions CMDR
1.) Do you manually take out cargo from carrier and fly to a starport to sell goods? Or can it be automated, like selling minerals from carrier to starport directly?
2.) Same as number one, do you manually refuel your fleet carrier? From Starport to fleet carrier? Or can it be automated?
3.) Does outfitting modules consume your fleet carrier's cargo?
4.) If you die, will you respawn on your carrier? (Last landing stop vs in the system, but not your last landing stop)
1 and 2) You need to use a ship to transport anything from station to FC, goods, fuel, money and Rubber ducks
3) Yes
4) As long as the Carrier doesn't move (inside system or to another one) you will respawn at the carrier, if the carrier moves a fraction of an atom then you will respawn at the last docking before the FC (repeat if you also landed on another FC before docking in yours)
16:29 what happens if you set down on a pad without asking permission to land on a carrier you own?
I think it just lets you
Needed this thanks! Maybe I missed it. You can store your own personal modules in a carrier right?
Yes just like on stations
liked subbed and want to show my appreciation for your content. I admire you Captain!
Can squadron members deposit to the upkeep bank?
Great guide - thank you!
OK just purchased my new carrier but it is not showing - how do i find it it is showing on Galaxy map but not in the system so cannot find it ?
There is any way to share space cargo with friends? or squadron? because all i see there is for personal use.
.....when can I buy a Farragut?
And I think it would be nice to show all these features in system with FC administration facility.
Hello, could you make a video about the different carrier types?
They are all the same. Only difference is the cosmetics.
@@DowntoEarthAstronomy oh I thought they have a difference in their functionallity
If we can scoop suns for fuel for all the other ships, I dont see why they didnt implement scooping atmospheric planets for Tritium.
Where is carrier management?! I just bought mine from Kuo Terminal and there is nothing that says "Carrier Management"....what do I do? Where do I go?....I had to go to my right side panel, but now I don't know where the tritium storage thingy is?!
Is there any way to share a carrier with friends/squadrons. ie allow friends to use the storage etc
If you suspend all services just before weekly reset you should pay only suspended upkeep, right??
I don't think that will work. Under budget, there is both projected and accrued costs. They update every day. You would have accrued all week. The upkeep would probably be prorated. I know I suspend cartography until I need it but it really doesn't save that much.
It depends how long you have services running. I have all off unless I need them
How long does it take, I purchased a fleet carrier and i can’t find it
And how do you turn around camera in FC-management menu (when you see FC from beside)?
is this video up to date on pricing and maintenance?
so theoretically can you use this for extremely fast trading? say I jump it into a system that manufactures gold. I could take all of the ships I'm carrying to the station and fill them with gold and then bring them back to the carrier. I could also fill the carrier with gold and then when everything is full I can jump it into a system that's demanding gold and empty the hold and all my ships. am I correct?
It would take a while to load and unload 25000 gold but yes
That wouldn't work, you can fill up your carrier cargo and 1 ship with cargo. But not all your ships also full of cargo.
You can't switch from T9 with say 500t and then get into a sidewinder, you have to dump the 500t before it would let you switch.
It's a shame you can't store more than one ship per pad, ie: two small ships in a medium pad, two medium ships in a large pad or four small ships in a large pad (44 total ships in 16 pads)?
So the redemption office doesnt let you pay off your own bounties or fines?
Thanks for making this video. My waypoint planner in Commanders Tool Box doesn't work on the Android platform. Is there a way to fix that?
Can you sent me an email with details about that device you are using and what version of android you are running. i just tested it on my phone and it worked just fine
I'm just not enjoying my Fleet Carrier. How/where can I sell it, or should I simply "defund" my FC and it will go away? Of course, I would get my ships off of it first. Thank you!
Filters are a problem in the map sometimes it work, sometimes it wont work i don't know why...
I'm still working towards getting this
Thank you so much for this, was considering starting to play Elite Dangerous again to have a look at these carriers, looks like another hoop-jumping grind-fest. Between this and engineers, they don't make things player friendly. Thanks again for saving me so much time.
Does the tax apply to npc' too? I mean if npcs dock and refuel on my carrier I should get a passive income, no?
NPCs only dock. They don't buy anything or use any services.
Yes.
I need a window for my fleet carrier :(
at what point do you choose the design of the fleet carrier that you want?
Whenever. It's like changing ship kit on a normal ship
YAY more grind! The reason why I and many others quit playing the game. It's a game, not a job. Why can't Fdev figure this out? smh
ED MMO!!!
Oh my god, it wasn’t handed to you, how tragic…
awww poor thing do you need a cookie? there are PLENTY of grindy games out there this isnt near the worst
So, I don't get why the most interesting tab is Codex, when looking for info on Carrier affairs... We need more info! Can't even see what buy orders are fulfilled or if Im earning Cr at all.
Fleet Carriers Owner Guide: Short Version
Don't own a fleet carrier and you are automatically better off than any CMDR who does own one.
Wait, how much of a percentage you're getting back when selling?
Aye, that's the number one, need to know thing. Lots of info online at various stages of its development and some of it contradictory. If decommissioned, from what I understand you get the cost of the modules and hull back less any debt the carrier incurred and maybe a fee? What about depreciation, was it removed completely? I know you get your ships and modules back at a nearby station but what about the credits you have in the carrier (assuming you forgot to drain it before decommission). What about anything you have in storage, is that lost? This vid was very helpful as a users guide on how to operate the carrier. I was looking for more info about the risks of owning one financially.
Great guide! I learned some new things :D
So, I'm kinda curious, can you use the secure trader to "clean" pirated LTDs for a lower price to sell them to npcs for a larger profit
Unfortunately no.
Can u please make a video for what a FC actually is good for?
Because i see no nearly upside...
And/or the many funny things/Goldrushes and the old moneybalance in the Game!
Actually a summery of ur Videos from years ago... ✌🏼
Good for Jump range and storage.
But Neither worth the hassle.
I rather do more trips for LTDs than having to deal with babysitting a carrier
It makes literally ever aspect of the game easier. You can park your own personal star port anywhere. 25,000 cargo space that you can jump 500 ly. If you don't understand the benefits of that, you don't comprehend the game's mechanics. Like that's not even mentioning the fact that you can buy commodities from other players (which was never possible before).
I think only triple elite cmdrs are allowed to have a fleet carrier.
No
Can you walk around on your fleet carrier ?
So... Is it worth?
I enjoy my storage device

when selling on the black market on the FC it says " Transaction canceled: Commodity no longer required" but FC not full... help?
I suppose OWNERS already know, where to buy FC
Thank you, Commander o7
o7. How do I make sure no one buys my Tritium in my Commodity Market ? I set it to " Buy" ? Not "Sell". I heard of guys who got cleaned out after all their hard work. Not funny
You make sure no one buys trit from the market by not setting trit to be sold. If anyone has been "cleaned out" of theirs by people buying it off them then that is purely a result of their own incompetence.
love you video,thank you
Tritium storage on the carrier needs to be updated to infinite. Stop making me transfer from FC to Ship back to FC!!!
Today i will buy one.
They Seem too expensive to own or run I think Frontier need to rethink fleet carrier mechanics or at least have NPC's get Tritium for you.
tl;dr: grind 6 billion credits and cry.

(Call it 5) 10 in total
Its a lot .... call it 3 months ( make it 4 months ) . That should get 5 for the ship , up to 1 bill for any out fitting
( I think that would cover every extra module and you wont be doing that I imagine , but still )
That leaves up to 4 bill for costs and any buying of fuel plus commodities and ships etc. That should last you a couple of years ..
That it what Im currently aiming for . We will see anyway .
