- Here is a longer driving video of Fletch’s 1968 Imperial LeBaron. What a wonderful car this is. So cool, such a great ride and appointments. These were landmark American cars in the best tradition. I hope you enjoy. Please Like, Share, Comment and Subscribe 👍
Marks quite right about Imperial, Lincoln and Cadillac. I call them The Three Halos. US at it's best.

What a superb and rare 1960s Mopar. It just exudes luxury and prestige. I’ve watched Fletch’s multi-part resto of this remarkable car and he should be very proud of the end result.

I own a 1993 Chrysler LeBaron with only 67,000 Miles on it. I have since bought 1958 Chrysler Imperial Hubcaps that i welded some magic together so it may work with the original screw own hubcap dew hicky on my car. I have since added the letters "Imperial" infront of "LeBaron" on the back of my car. Creating my own Imperial LeBaron. I am only 18 and my young mind never knew that Imperial LeBaron was a real car in the past. I only made mine Imperial because i enjoy the 1958 Hubcaps.

The car really needs dual exhaust. It was optional, but you do not have it. It will really wake up the 440 at the medium and high revs, and the sound quality will increase as well.

@@markbehr88 I heard that sound, you have a single loud muffler. No comparison to a real dual exhaust. I have seen your previous episodes. I recall that this 440 had a camshaft "upgrade", i.e. higher duration and lift. That really needs dual exhaust. Perhaps nobody will drive this car fast enough to exploit the power, but since the power is there, why burry it in that single exhaust. FYI, I have two 68's myself. Four exhaust pipes total!
@@demetridar506 Fair enough. I do love the sound of dual exhaust as long as it is deep, like an old motor boat rather than of those tinny, popping systems that you sometimes hear.
@@markbehr88 I have never heard a dual exhaust on a 440 that did not sound good. Perhaps the original optional dual exhaust on Imperials with resonators were super quiet. I have never heard one though. The original tail pipes are long rotten. My LeBaron has original dual exhaust, but the mufflers and resonators are long gone. Now, it has glass packs. The sound is fantastic. Quiet at low loads, lout when you are on it. Cruising in the hundreds is wonderful.
Demetri - hey & thanks for your comments. To be actual, this exhaust was originally put on temporary, just to drive it for it's registration inspection. It's the same single exhaust that is on my 1974 Monaco. It sounds so good I have left it be. It's a 2.5 single and it breaths well - I don't think anyone will beat me off the traffic lights, because I only have a single exhaust system Demetri lol. Hardly a priority for me at the moment, but down the track I may fit another one beside it to gain the extra 2kw...but yes, that smooth Dodge note is perfect. Cheers & thanks for watching 👍

I, myself, like frontend on the 1967 model better than the '68. But the tail end design on those two year's Imperials is one of the best of history like the '66 Dodge Monaco. 1960 Chryslers, etc

When I was born 1973 my grandfather had one like this. Bottle green as well. I am unsure of the year, there is no one to ask. But I know it was this generation as I know exterior and the interior. Eventually it was garaged and sat around. I used to go play in it. I can still smell the leather. I know the feel of the spring in the interior door pull. One year I was maybe 13 I came home from camp and the car was gone. They sold it. They had no idea I wanted it when I turned 16. $1500 or so. Heart breaking. Grandpas had the 8 track under the radio. It never worked. He also had a hard time with the carburetors for some reason. Of all the cars that got away or we owned and moved on from, the Imperial is the one that got away. ALthough I do miss my 90 rx7 convertible a hell of a lot.

The exhaust is much louder than it should be, but otherwise that's an amazing car. I love it. When I was a child my parents bought a 1967 that was only a few months old. It had been wrecked and repaired. They drove it for 9 years and said it was the best car they ever owned. Theirs was the base model, the Sedan. It had cloth seats and plain painted roof. They got rid of it 4 years before I got a license, so I was never able to experience driving it.

That's right. I forgot how loud and sour they were. Makes people jump at 100 paces!
Its very loud. I drove a ‘66 Crown Coupe to HS and it was much quieter. Out of character for a luxury car.

Was blessed to learn to drive on a '68 Imperial LeBaron. Triple-black, it was first my grandfather's, then my mother's. It had a factory-installed 8-track undertone dash, and the tapes fit neatly into the door pockets -- two per door. It was super fast for such a large and heavy car. Twin snorkel air cleaner with the crinkle-finish black powder coat. We traveled quite a few toll roads back then where we lived, and my mom was always, "first out of the gate" in that machine. That Holley carb was long to warm up, so you had to drive two-footed until it warmed up. This is a habit I still have in some American vehicles. I loved how many people had no idea what it was. Thanks for the memories.

This was my first car in 1979. I loved it. I had no idea it was rare. Maroon with white top and interior. Being my first car of coarse I ruined it. But, it took a lot of hard work. What a tank and with a feisty motor. Tons of crazy stories with this one. I had a friend with an older 300, push button tranny, and another with a New Yorker. Then there was the guy with the Thunderbird. We didn't realize we were most likely terrorizing the folks out in the country on the dirt roads, but thinking back, yes. Sorry. The sight of us sliding around a turn roaring like thunder... Those were the days!

I love the LeBaron logo on this 68-this is the version that remained in use until the end of the Imperial marque in 1975.
Does the interior have wood inserts in the doors or had faux wood come into use by this time?

The funny thing is that in 67 and 68 there were complaints about “thin leather” being used in the Imperials compared to earlier years!
That’s odd because I had a 68 Crown and the factory leather is still like new and quite thick. The quality is excellent.
I had a '70 Charger R/T with hidden headlights, that featured the delayed/automatic off feature.
