Yep when we did MOT s in the seventies they would fall on subframe mounts. And generally rot , We hated them and never wanted one , lovely to drive through , enjoyed working on the stags as said , , we use dowty washers on the dip tube. And place cork gasket on the sump , thanks for sharing ,
Very nice upload, I’ve owned a bunch of 1100/1300’s in my lifetime and seeing the inner sill welded up is exactly what we had to do to try and get another year out of them before it became pointless, currently own a 1973 1300 Vanden plas which is obviously a survivor that’s been lovingly cared for to this day, WEE 212K 🙂
Yeah I've bodged a fair bit when I ws young lol. Thing was you had to keep them on the road so a quick fix at the weekend was all we could do as we needed them for work Monday morning!
I am looking forward to watching how you get on with the 1100. My Mum had three of these cars whilst I was growing up (some people take a while to learn). The second one (a 1965 Austin) lasted just 7 years before any further patching became uneconomic and it went off to the scrap man. Despite this experience she still bought another one. They were all either beige or Harvest Gold. My memories are mostly about the rust and pools of bright green hydrolastic fluid.
I feel your pain regarding putting your back out. I put mine out by simply turning at the waist to pick up a gallon of paint, laid me on the floor in excruciating pain, unable to move. I do recommend stretching exercises, have a look online for different techniques, they really help speed the recovery. Try to keep moving too. Good luck.
