    My conclusion from watching several "Matter" videos is that it is made for manufacturers, not necessarily for consumers.
    It is a standard, but individual manufacturers can decide what functionality is allowed through matter and which remain proprietary.
    You buy a matter device for a little more than the regular version, and they limit the full functionality "for now"

      It is a bit frustrating that some things are open to interpretation on how/if you implement

    Great video, hopefully in another 12months they will catch up with the missing features. It does seem still early days for matter, and it's a real shame that they haven't enforced a mesh node feature as standard or clear advertising (product markings) of the meshing capability. Looks like the eve plug does and the nanoleaf bulbs don't, would be great if this could be highlighted in your videos too

    Sounds like Matter isn't quite ready for the mainstream yet. With the point of Matter being interoperability it needs those extra functions available, especially energy reporting in my scenario.
    I'll stick with Zigbee via ZHA for now but I'm hearing more manufacturers promising Matter in the future - there's a brand here (AU/NZ) that use Tuya for light switches, power sockets and more (their products are aesthetically pleasing) who are talking about Matter support coming so hopefully this means Tuya will make this standard allowing for many more devices, the Tuya integration in HA works but will not buy anything else Tuya until Matter is the protocol
    Big thanks for the update!

      It's been like a year since I looked into anything smart home. I was putting off starting my smart home buys until matter was standard, but I'm in Aus area too and I don't think there's a whole lot of options still.
      I had never heard of Zigbee or Tuya before so will need to do a bit of research into that 😅 What is the company you find aesthetically pleasing??

    Thanks for the update Lewis! US based user here and thus far, I've not been overly impressed with Matter. It's not really brought anything of consequence to my setup. One of my first disappointments was the purchase of a dozen TP-Lnk. Kasa, Matter smart plugs. My main use was for the energy monitoring. Needless to say, I was disappointed that it wasn't an entity that was available in Home Assistant (or anywhere else) due to current Matter limitations. I sent them all back and replaced them with Sonoff S31s and haven't looked back. For now, I'm treating Matter like I do proposed firmware feature updates, I'm not making purchases based on what or when they may be added. The promise of Matter is lofty and I'll remain optimistic. 👍

    I wanted to be so wrong about my prediction of matter being just an other standard on the market. Actually I feel wrong but sadly in the wrong direction. Matter is still just an intermediate solution, new issues appear, when using it, still there is a need for lots of bad apps for each device and in addition lots of hugs too connect the devices. I would have wished for less needed devices, apps and more interoperability

    not only few devices so far, plus limits how many systems you can connect to but also increase of the price for everything - that is the bigger showstopper - 45 GBP for 1 sensor? I have 20+ motion sensors at home - if I had to buy them 45 GBP each... ;-(

    So matter reduces the number of hubs but you still need a shed load of apps (no doubt harvesting data) if you want a firmware upgrade or special features. Think I'll pass on matter or anything that CSA (their latest name) brings out. If Matter was a parcel service company then they would be Hermes -> Evri 🤣🤣🤣

    I'm making my first smart home and have ordered most of these devices, it's good to know that the all work although some in limited capability... but I have a question specifically for the Eve app. As you said its not on android (and I only have Android devices), will I be able to add the Eve motion sensor to Home Assistant?
    Also, I'm not sure but maybe you skipped a few Onvis matter over thread products (smart plug and smart button), I have those on order as well and hope they will work.

    • @EverythingSmartHome
      @EverythingSmartHome  Рік тому +1

      You can add the eve motion sensor as long as you get the matter version and not the HomeKit version, if you get the HomeKit version then you need the eve app to be able to update the firmware to matter.
      I saw the Onvis products but at least here in the UK they are advertised as Thread but not Matter certified so that's why I didn't include them. I assume they will be certified later

    Contacted Support and here on 2 community posts and 2 youtube video's, hopefully I get an answer on my question even though I understand you guys must be busy...
    Here it is...
    Two questions my good sir, will there be a future update for zones for ep1/lite just like the Aqara fp2?
    And are there any plans for a ep version 2.0 in case that there are new hardware upgrades available?Hopefully there's some clarification in the next video about this. Because as soon as there is ep1 stock or ep1 lite if that's applicable to me, I'm getting them if the zones work like the fp2.
    I currently own the fp2 for my living room, and also have some door/window sensor to help with my current situation. I might replace the fp2 with the ep1 and add some more around the house if it supports the zones feature in the way that fp2 works or maybe combine the ep1 and fp2 where it's necessary
    For example just using the fp2 zones for the living and work room but I don't need zones for the kitchen or bathroom for example so in those areas I'll just have the ep1. But in the other zones like work/living room I do also need features like light levels, humidity ect to automate that with other devices so there I'll put both the ep1 and fp2...unless ep1 does it all like described 😅

    • @kezzabt
      @kezzabt Рік тому

      IIRC there is a beta firmware to the EP1 to support multiple detections however this is just a number say 3 objects in the signal zone. To get functionality like the FP2 it would need a new MMwave sensor but as it is a modular design you in theory could swap it out with a new sensor and get the zone functionality
      .
