    I love how you don't make this intimidating like some other people do, they act like its the end of the world if you get a little messy and absolutely loose their minds if you even touch the plaster a tiny bit with your hands.

    I grew up watching horror and sci fi and fantasy films that used organic effects and real prosthetics and such, and marvelled at the realness and skill behind it all, and dreamt of some day being a horror and sci fi effect artist. Watching this took me right back to seeing the making of Michael Jacksons Thriller. Great stuff!

    I am so glad to have found your channel! Although I wish I had found it sooner. I'm really looking forward to learning how to get all of that clay out of your plaster mold. I tried to make a latex mask for my son (he wanted to be Sloth from the movie Goonies) and it turned out okay, not as perfect as I had hoped, but I really struggled getting the clay out of the mold. I had followed another UA-camrs advise and used wood glue as a barrier between the clay and the plaster and it really did not work well for me at all, I will use the gloss Kryolan paint from now on. Can't wait for the next video :)

    great video ed! question-- why does some of my latex not cure in the mold? just little spots here and there. could it be the sealer that i use on the sculpture that gets absorbed into the plaster mold? i used glossy rustoleum sealant. i will for sure use krylon next time. Thanks again for your videos.

    • @eviledwin777
      @eviledwin777 8 років тому +1

      It could have stuck to the mold and is not allowing the latex to absorb. Or it could be a contaminant. Be sure and let the Krylon dry over night.

  • @tzisorey

    Yeah, always go with the recommended amount of water in a cement or plaster mix, don't increase the water to increase your working time - chemically speaking it doesn't "dry", it "sets" - so it'd be like adding more water to jello - it'd still set in about the same time, it just wouldn't set as firmly.

    This is a great series! I have a quick query though--first time sculpt/mold; I let my clay dry and harden first, and I want to put plaster on the sculpture, but I'm wondering if I'll be able to remove the dry clay from the mold...should I just cut my losses, start over, and apply plaster while the clay is still damp and flexible?
