I love your work it's expiring
"If I was piccaso I would be done 👍🏽"😂😂 awesome!!
I can't tell you how cool it is of you to put these lessons out for free. You're preserving the art-form, and creating new generations of monster makers. I say that makes you the best. Thank you.
aspiring SFX makeup artist here, very true. gonna get a shed to just make my own creatures and projects so this is so helpful thank you
Me as well.. I might very just found the only hobby I've ever seriously wanna maybe invest in I have a crazy imagination 🥺❤️❤️ thank you!!!
hes like the bob ross of mask making
It also helps that he totally looks like a Wizard (or rather a Warlock!)
@Potwheelz okay?
"If I was Picasso, I'd be done" - laughed so hard at that
Vladimir Šipka shots fired lol
Vladimir Šipka saaame
lol I din't see that comming
Now I don't know why, but I heard "dead".... laughed my ass off anyway.
Vladimir Šipka this guys really good at making masks from ground zero
Whenever he turns around to talk to the camera, you just know that you are going to get a life lesson XD
I love this comment
"Comes in handy if you're lazy... Suzan" Subscribe earned :'D
Hahaha came here to say the same thing. 😅
I'm in university for a sculpture degree and this is the kind of stuff I want to do for my career. Love your videos, man
Thanks!
I don't know what it is about clay but's always satisfying to watch someone make something out of clay. :D
It's because it's very malleable and versatile probably.
It's because you can take any anonymous mass and make it into anything you can imagine in real tactile 3D.
as a horror artist, of pretty much every medium, sculpting, digital art, painting, mixed media, do i have respect for you, sir! posting these easy to follow, very educational, free, completely accessible and honestly very aesthetically appealing content, is a very honourable thing to do, sharing your experience for free. and the cute little jokes and dad-like humour is a major plus.
Love your way of teaching, start with not assuming your viewers are experts or beginners, specify what materials are needed and which aren't, and provide a Bob-Ross-like commentary with humor
Started off doing mask conversions and just started getting into molding and pouring my own and this is by far the best and most informative video ever love your work
Thanks so much! We really appreciate it and wish you all the best with you work and projects
What a fantastic sense of humor this guy has, very patient teacher too.
Great to see. I used to work at Distortions in the early 90's . Ed you were always an inspiration.
Ed! I'm so happy I found you again. My family and I miss watching your show "Making Monsters". These other reality shows don't compare. I enjoyed the behind the scenes that you, your wife and Jordu provided. Your humor and expertise were incomparable. I love your visionary creativity! I'll keep watching as long as you're still alive and kickin.
Keri Sparenga thanks yo I had not heard of making monsters it rocks.
War pig Hammer
Thank you so much Keri!!
I don't have an artistic bone in my body. Artists see things I can't. It's fantastic to watch this.
Thank you Paul!
At this point I'd be looking for an artistic muscle or organ.
That Picasso joke was actually funny.
"This is a Lazy Susand and this comes in very handy if you're lazy, Susan."

Is it just me, or is this guy the sweetest guy ever?
I loved your show when it was on television....I do miss it. It was better than a lot of things on.
I have watch you and the members of your company for years and loved everything you design. Can't wait till you come back to Houston. Don't ever stop. You and your guys are super great. Thanks Mike
no doubt some of the best content on youtube right here
All I can think while watching this is "why the heck aren't you a judge on Face Off?" Man. I've learned so much just watching this little half hour video.
I love watching your videos. Bring back your tv show. I loved it so much.
Word to the wise: If you don't have a boomstick and just plan to punch the ever loving piss out of the clay, you should keep in mind that there is hard wood under there with pointy corners and it will hurt when you hit it. Gentle pimp slaps until you build up some solid layers. On the other hand, I only got a purple knuckle, but if your bone pops out it could make a decent sculpting tool.
bigcrackrock *Gentle Pimp Slaps.* Golden.
bigcrackrock you made me laugh so goddamn hard lol
😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 you ain't lying
What an amazing gentleman ,thanks so much for sharing your work.
Awwww man I remember this show ! This is great stuff! Especially like their old skool empisis
i watch an awful lot of arts and crafts videos and i have to applaud you on the first few mins
firstly, for listing the items needed or advised
secondly, because you have done this as if you are a new started and don't have expensive equipment
i am now going to watch the rest of the vid
Ed you have a open mind and a good amagination.
hey I met Ed at Midwest Haunters Convention last year, I had no idea about Monster Lab, cool!
This guy is fantastic. Very enjoyable to watch and the sculpt turned out really cool as well.
Christopher most people can't sculpt a snake. .lol.. this guys awesome. .
One word: Genius! Such a nice guy - would like to listen to him in his monster lab for a full month haha. Really nice - thank you!
I love this guy
This man is fucking insane. If i had him for my art class id never want to leave
I wish you would show the sculpting of the facial features and anatomy sculpting. How ever I like it and learned a lot. Thank you for showing us your work.
Ed and Marsha thank you so much for your effort and the sharings..You are great..!
Thank you for posting. Some of us eat, sleep and dream sculpting and shadows. This is a small injection of clay when a person is too busy to sit down and create.
That Picasso dad joke just gained you a follower my friend.
This. This is what i yearn for in life. Subscriber earned
Thank you so much! We really, really appreciate it and the support! Let us know what you think about our latest Monster Lab as well on WED clay.
Good to see you respond to the viewers on you tube, I love your work, I did commercial Art in highschool at a technical school for 2 years and it was great learning experience, with computer, spray paint and print on t shirts and picture frames. This was back in 1994-1995 year in Commercial Art. Those were the days.
Awesome! The instructor makes this very entertaining, as well.
such a nice person you seem! padawans must overflow after this video indeed! in order are a congratulations ... a nice video this was
I loved the show Making Monsters it was awesomeeeeee.
watching this guy's videos, it really feels like he's talking to you, not at you like some youtubers can be
Nice video, i really enjoyed it.
Ed is very charismatic, it would be great to have him as a teacher.
Finally! A video that explains more about how to work with clay. Each medium has a property and I have wanted to learn clay sculpting for quite some time with HORRIBLE results. Thanks Ed. Miss your show. We switched cable companies and only one DVR so my wife has laid claim to all the programming rights.(She pays for it so she's allowed).
Distortion makes everything sound simple and it is and I love tHt
Brilliant video. I learned a lot. Thanks for sharing
I love masks so I was happy when I saw this in my recommendation definitely seems like something I'd be interested in very relaxing and educational thanks 👍
We missed watching you on cable! UA-cam is so much better! THANK YOU!!
Bob Ross of mask making! I could do a couple of seasons of this lol
i enjoy the loud echoed slapping and metal clanging, adds some creepy vibes love it!
Wow I'm so thankful that you popped up in my recommended videos. I've been trying to teach myself to sculpt my own prosthetics for about a month now but I've never actually worked with any kind of clay or sculpting tools before. Most of the stuff I've made so far has been so uneven and rough that I've ended up ripping everything off and starting over.
Ed is a wizard.
So cool and simply just generous. To give this to the world. Madterclass in mask skulpting. Much Love
An excellent video :) thank you very much x
I fastforwarded and wow, the transformation is unbelievable!
I absolutely love this!!! I've been wanting to get into sculpting and this is so helpful!!! Thank you for posting this - this will really help me take it to the next level!!!
Since Summer of 81' we have admired his wonderful Masks !! (Worked for Morris Costumes) Jim, my super-visor, was often bragging on this very talented man !! (and thank you again for making a discontinued "Mutation" mask for me, back in early 1982) Well-done video tutorial !
I like the ominous lateral lighting of the video
Just found these, not Making Monsters but far more technical. Awesome! Well done Ed and Distortions crew.
You are a really good teacher and i knew at the minute 2 that you will help me starting in this monster world. thank you :)
This is enthralling, brilliant, and very fun to learn the way he taught. 💕🌸
LOVE IT!!! this is just like bn in a proper classroom with you and you make it so interesting, no boring moment, Thanks Ed, you are just the absolute best!!!
I love this man he's so pure
"You might find out you hate it..."
I laughed so hard at that comment.
Tony Bullard when?

I'm just now getting into mask making and that sponge at 25 minutes looks perfect. I'm going for that stretched leathery skin texture and that almost does is naturally.
It’s like watching Bob Ross sculpt
Hi Ed, thank you for making and sharing this whole series. Going to the trouble to shoot the whole thing in 4k was especially appreciated. Bravo!
That Picasso joke made me happy
scrolled down for the piccolo comments and was not disappointed. awesome mask man!
this was very interesting to watch, i love it!
I recognize that "Dragon" monster from STC! DELIGHTFUL!!
You are so awesome, blunt and descriptive! The concise manner of this tutorial just made me a subscriber forever! You are awesome!!
Thanks Ed. I really appreciate your personality, craftsmanship, and your advice. I'm subscribing.
I got A mask when I was like 14 or 15. that was a rotten zombie 1 foot tall with a miniature head growing out of its ear it's legs sat on my clavicles and it had these green and yellow boils it was the BEST MASK I got as a kid. I answer the door on Halloween people hate it then love it.
I love these videos and Distortions Unlimited. Please keep them coming.
...gets done beating it with a 4x4....
Already looks better than anything j have ever sculpted....
this is such a wholesome video
The Bob Ross of sculpting :D
I could watch this for days.
Why would anyone downvote a competent instructional video? Either you're interested in this stuff or you aren't.
I've wondered that...
WOW excellent instruction. "If I was Picasso I'd be done." And when he cut out the 1st eye hole I was like "WOW THATS A BIG EYEHOLE!" Shows you my knowledge of sculpting - none. Great job.
I find this very cool
I miss your TV show... I loved it
Love me some "Monster Labs"! Thanks again Ed!
The thumbnail looked like a whole renaissance painting
That looks amazing I've been a big fan of your work for years and of course a horror freak, I tattoo and build guitars for a living and now I want to get into making masks and props, this is my first video it's very inspiring I can't wait to try it out. Thank you.
