I met Dikembe while he was playing for the Rockets. I was fortune enough to get to take a picture with him. A man respected by all of his peers. Rest In Heaven Dikembe 🙏🏾
I never watched basketball but I knew who Dikembe Mutombo was, he was an extraordinary man, you can tell he had a good heart and I respect him for all the work hes done. I hope people continue it.
Underrated off the court gentleman... since my young age in Congo, this guy has been around through his charitable actions. In the 90s he gave away dozens of buses for the city for free. So much rings and chips in your heart. Rest in peace champ.
Powerful legacy on/off the basketball court. Love his impact on my home country of Congo. The man’s life goes way past basketball. My heart breaks for his family and friends. Love how popular and affectionate he was with everybody. Sad day and bad loss for the basketball world. Legends stand tall and nobody stood taller than Dikembe. Rest Easy and say hi to Coach Thompson for all of us
Dikembe wasn't just a great basketball player, he was a phenomenal human. He embodied what is good about ourselves. May he rest in peace, and his legacy of humanitarianism live on.
God Bless Mount Mutombo... As an American, we don't know much about his humanitarian efforts in his home nation, but I know he was able to do a lot in service of his people. He left a massive, positive mark on this planet. May we all cherish his memory...
Sad news. Stopped following the NBA when all the legends retired in the late 90s, but this hits home. Those legends obviously included Mutombo. I remember the rivalries well from that era.
One of the most exciting players to watch back when he played. His energy, passion and overall love for game and life is what I'll remember most. Rest in power. ☝🏼
As a country that knows Congo 🇨🇩, I fondly remember 25 years ago when my dad took me to your grandma's house and said he had a surprise. I had no idea I would meet you that day, and you told me, "I’ll see you one day." I wish I could see you again, but for now, rest in peace, big Dikembe.
He was a beautiful person. He was also an ideal MAN. Dikembe was a hero. Strong but selfless. Hard but compassionate. If what I believe is the afterlife, Mr Mutumbo just took the fastest elevator to heaven. What a GOOD man.
Fly high Dikembe! We love you! Thank you for all you have done for the game of basketball and amazing human being. You’ll truly be missed. Tell Kobe we miss him too! ❤
Met him in Houston as a child during an charity event down there and hugged him, genuine and thoughtful guy who cared about the community. He meant lots to the community and wished I hugged him one last time. ❤
Utterly gutted to see him gone. One of the all time greats - once as a player, and then even more so as a man. I owned two of his jerseys as a kid, had his posters on my wall, even wrote a college essay about him. Never met him, but miss him terribly. A true icon of sport
Guys like Mut don’t come along every day. When you can shine on tv but also shine off camera, that says something about him. Such an inspiration for not just his country or continent, but kids everywhere.
Charitable, kind, loved by many and left an everlasting impact. That's pretty much all you can hope to do while here. I wish his family peace in this difficult time.
Mutombo has done more for people than Jordan and LeBron. They were better players and got paid more money but Mutombo heart was bigger and he believe in putting others before himself that is priceless
LeBron has built a school for impoverished children in Akron. It’s not fair to make such comparisons especially on a sad occasion like this. Celebrate and uplift people, don’t try to tear them down. Go in peace!
Man this one hit me maybe it’s cus I remember him from better times in my life but he was always someone you would hear about at least once a week as a sports fan. Rest easy big fella
What a loss. Dikembe was a beautiful soul, a great man. This is a sad day. My thoughts and prayers to his friends and family. He was truly a one of a kind person.
I used to see him at the gym, he always had this walk of humble royalty, like a God and he was always pleasant and nice. Definitely a presence in the room 🙏🏼 💫
The humble man , who impacted and valorizing My home country DRC by his love and motivation to the hopeless , orphan and widow by builded a big hospital for them
Nah this hurts. I seriously use the no, no, no finger wave when ever I play ball and got blocks. I take pride in playing defense or watching great defense and it comes from guys like Mutumbo. Great guy on and off the court.
My brother's 5'2 ex wife took a picture with him outside of an event one time. My brother doesn't like the pic because..well her head is like right there😂😂😂
Wow, I just learned about this. My generation of players are slowly passing on. Even as I kid, I wasn't wondered would my Dikembe cards grow in value so I never traded them in. I'll hang on to them know. Great man, not just a player or baller.
This report should've mentioned he made an NBA finals appearance with the 76ers in 2001.I'm sorry to hear about Mutombo's death .The last time I saw him in the media he was accompanying Britain's Prince William and Princess Kate to a Brooklyn Nets game in 2014 ,explaining what was going on on the court to them.Too young an age to die by NBA standards.
I agree, him and Iverson really carried that team, they were a very good defensive team, you'd probably remember the names better than me.But,that defensive display that season was awesome!
Such a fine human being
Indeed!!!
pause
This brought me to tears. No doubt he was a tremendous shot blocker, but it's what he did off the court that matters most. Just a great human being 😢
Every NBA player should do the finger wag after they block an opponent's shot to honor Deke!
They should do more than that, and look at his humanitarianism as an example. But who am I to tell grown men what to do with their money?
Why would anyone even try to dunk knowing this guy is lurking somewhere on the court 😂
I'm sure that won't get annoying at all...
Embiid and Whiteside might do that
And the refs should wag their fingers before giving them technicals.
Thank you Dikembe Mutombo
I met Dikembe while he was playing for the Rockets. I was fortune enough to get to take a picture with him. A man respected by all of his peers. Rest In Heaven Dikembe 🙏🏾
One of the great intimidating defensive players in the history of the NBA. He’s gone from the world, but the memories still live in our minds
Hall of fame center; Humanitarian; great shot blocker. . Rest in Peace Dikembe Mutombo
Finger wave taunt going to go crazy this season! And they better not give out technicals for them either
Haven’t watched nba since Celtics took the chip in 08 but uhh they giving out techs for that now😳 ??!?
@@MsMoneyonMyMindSame. And yes. 😂
@@MsMoneyonMyMindThey were doing that when Mutombo was still playing.
Yes they need to let it slide this year for dikembe mutombo
@@coolkidd723 They would let Mutombo do it, but it had to be towards the audience and not at the players.
💔💔 this got me crying real tears 😭 #Fcancer
Same! What an awesome human.
Having his life cut that short seems so unfair after helping so many people.
😢😢😢
This one hurts, Dikembe Mutombo was a beacon of light in this dark dark world. Rest in peace Mount Mutombo. ☝🏿☝🏿☝🏿

This is truly one of the greatest men to have ever lived in the modern era of sports undeniable
A true legend from the 90’s

These nba big men not only play big but have such big heart! Big men like mutumbo, shaq, Kareem, and Yao are so generous yet giants!

MJ donated his whole NBA when he played for the Wizards for 9/11. MJ does a lot it just don't get broadcast

Sad to hear this news. He was such a nice person. An appreciative man who gave back to others for what he had been given.
Truly a guiding light in this dark world!
