Good review. My biggest gripe with soft shells is that I sweat too much when I’m walking in. I had a cheaper midway Softshell that I’ve worn here and there and had that issue, it’s also on the heavy side for packing. More recently I bought the first lite catalyst soft shell, it does what a softshell is sopose to do but it breathes very well, I have the pants too. Cut on the jacket is nice good length in the arms for a taller fellow like me. I went for an xl to layer over the fl uncompedrea in colder weather. I never ever spend full price on any fl gear they always have good sales just have to be patient. Glad the Columbia is working well for you

I typically don’t wear my outer shell in either. This actually packs down to the same size or smaller than my First Lite Uncompahgre so that’s a plus. Haven’t tried any of the newer offerings from First Lite (or anyone else). My Uncompahgre is going on 6, maybe 7 years old now

I like my catalyst softshell jacket for turkey hunting the most, that’s wear it shines, the pants I wear all the time anymore. And a lot of times I end up saving my uncompedrea as a mid layer under a parka for super cold weather. I stumbled across your video looking at jackets for everyday ware then fell down the UA-cam rabbit hole thought that one looked nice, they come with hoods now too

Columbia once made the best jackets in the world, they still make very good jackets, but they're not the best jackets anymore, it's way below other new brands.
