Better stabilization, lower latency, longer range, better safety features, more power to handle wind. All those things can allow for new pilots to easily practice.
Thanks - much appreciated! Indeed, though, you can crop in pretty easily to reduce the FOV slightly. Alternatively as soon as you add a bit of speed, the props disappear. Not at all ideal for slow filming (without cropping), but fine for anything with some movement.
Love this drone. Yes, I've had a slew of self built and RFT drones, but there is no comparison. This is a polished and amazing product worth every penny, at least for me. Thanks Robert! Indeed, the portability isn't super ideal. Somewhat funny story: Typically I never use the DJI bags/cases that come in the Fly More kits. Yet this time was literally the first time ever I was like "Huh, a case would actually be useful", due to the awkward nature of it. But no case came with it. Thus, I literally carried the thing around in an open-top Rubbermaid container everywhere. My spotter friends were like: Ummm...dude, you need to game up! 😂
Can a beginner with few experience with other Dji drones use these drone only on normal mode at low speed without any accident. I fly my magic zoom pretty confident but don’t know about these one.

Fantastic review Ray. I really really want one, but hardly use my Spark these days - and with the 2yr care and spare batteries it’s just short of €2k. I think I’ll have to be sensible this time round and walk away and get rid of this FOMO.
I can see how version II if this would have a basic front facing camera, and then a 360 main camera. Basically pilot the drone without worrying too much about framing the shot, then go back and set the focus points in post. Then you could essentially solve all the smart shot issues without having to put all sorts of avoidance sensors that quite frankly ruin the whole experience of squeezing through tight spots.
Indeed. Semi similar to what Insta360 was proposing with their DJI Mavic mod system. I’m not sure if they ever ended up shipping that, but cool concept in theory. I think execution really needed to be internal like you said though.

Hey 👋 this review is awesome and honest. I have a question. Is it possible to fly this drone without wearing the googles? Like after practicing enough?
Anything non-moving or slow speed. Once you dip into a bit of speed they drop out. I’d need to go back and look at the precise speed, but you’d very rarely see it in sport, but would often see it in normal.
Can you cover more in depth the manual mode (attitude) versus full manual mode? For instance, do you need to adjust the left stick in attitude mode? Etc...
@12:15 you talk about plugging in to a phone. I'm new to DJI and may not even have all the needed software downloaded-audience mode to another set of goggles is working fine--but, how do you get audience mode to a phone? Neiither DJI Fly nor DJI virtual flight seem to provide this. And, I don't see another app on the appstore.
With the DJI Fly app, plug them into the goggles while everything else is powered on. Once that happens, it’ll both offer to update ant software, but also show an option to see the sceeen.
Ray, you suggested that, at this price, it would make a poor choice for a first fpv drone for a beginner. So, without spending extra money on a cheaper drone first, would practicing on DJI's Virtual Flight App. make anyone skillful enough? Any thoughts? Thanks for the great review!
I think so. If you practiced fully in there (with a real control), to the point of using manual mode for probably 15-20 hours or so and got comfortable with controlled manual flight, then I think you could make the switch. Otherwise, I'd start off with things like pre-built Whoop drones (such as the toy racer one), and then build up from there.
As a professional FPV pilot, I’ve learned that doing around 30-40 hours on the simulator(Liftoff) with the DJI FPV Remote allowed me to comfortably transfer over to flying the real thing. The simulator is almost exactly like the real thing. If you can fly and land in the simulator, you’d be set for the real deal.
Ray let me tell you I have been into racing/freestyle drones way before I got into fitness (and hence following you) and you did an amazing job in this review and in the flying. Personally this drone is not for me as you mentioned way heavier than I expect and way way way weaker as I am used to crashing doing 90 mph and be able to recover my drone and fly again with pretty much just a new set of props.
my question is....i do a lot of flying for crop farmers... most of my drones are too slow to get decent range and get a decent view of the back ends of farms... would this be a decent drone to get video long range and at a decent speed?
Hey great video. Great break down of the different sections on the DJI fpv drone. I currently have a DJI mini 2 drone which I love. Maybe looking for something different and I love looking at fpv cinematic videos etc. not interested in flips etc.. would you get a DJI fpv drone or get the new DJI mini 3 with all its new features??? Any info be great..it be great to be able to test a DJI fpv drone out first
Hmm, that's actually an interesting question. There's lots of quirks right now in compatibility. For example, in audience mode the DJI FPV v1 goggles won't connect yet to it. And other things like the Smart Controller don't use OccuSync 3.0. For the Air Units, I didn't see explicit mention of those one way or the other. They obviously connect with the FPV v2 goggles, which are clearly O3, so I'd presume there's some backwards compatibility in the controller too. Anyway, all ask...
Great review and sensible suggestions at the end. What really draws me to this drone are the goggles. I really don't want to be using my phone to view the camera feed. Having said that, is it possible to pair the goggles with the Mavic Air 2...? I'm guessing not, right?
Generally speaking there's no major relation between the size of a sensor and the resolution, instead, that's more the imaging pipeline. Further, cameras like this are actually recording above 4K, in order to get the 4K EIS stabilization. It's likely this has the capabilities to shoot at ~5.2-5.3K, like most sensors of this lineage, and then they use the overage for stabilization.
Awesome video! Curious, how did you add the footage from the goggles POV on this video? Which shows the settings..I want to grab footage from the goggles with all the details showing. Is that possible? Thank you!
I was in love with it until I heard that its obstacles avoidance will not stop an accident and all the other great flying modes that DJI's have aren't there. I may sit this one out and wait for an updated model that can avoid obstacles and has all the great flying modes. still a Great drone and great review thanks
I saw people plug in the cable from the goggles to a display and they were watching the drone fly around from the tailgate of the truck and then another thing you’re not supposed to let sunlight hit the lenses were you view the images
Nope, not even a prop mark. Astounding. I’m still not 100% sure what I hit, I suspect it was the props, but might have been the top shell. I’d say 90/10 it was the rear props.

Can you cover more in depth the manual mode (attitude) versus full manual mode? For instance, do you need to adjust the left stick in attitude mode? Etc...
Who else hits the like button for his videos before they have even loaded in?
👍
@12:15 you talk about plugging in to a phone. I'm new to DJI and may not even have all the needed software downloaded-audience mode to another set of goggles is working fine--but, how do you get audience mode to a phone? Neiither DJI Fly nor DJI virtual flight seem to provide this. And, I don't see another app on the appstore.
With the DJI Fly app, plug them into the goggles while everything else is powered on. Once that happens, it’ll both offer to update ant software, but also show an option to see the sceeen.
Is RTH automatically activated when loose connection in M mode? So from M tot N mode and then RTH?
Please,
What is the resolution inside the goggles when flying fpv?
@@AspiredTechStudios Thank you!
The virtual flight sim with goggles gave me severe motion sickness! Think I’ll have to stick with the real thing!
Doesn anyone know how to disable the auto rth when the battery hits ~30%
Ray let me tell you I have been into racing/freestyle drones way before I got into fitness (and hence following you) and you did an amazing job in this review and in the flying. Personally this drone is not for me as you mentioned way heavier than I expect and way way way weaker as I am used to crashing doing 90 mph and be able to recover my drone and fly again with pretty much just a new set of props.
Thanks - that's much appreciated! I tried to cover the segment the best I can. Slowly but surely on my FPV skills...
Great video. I’ll wait... there will be a foldable version in like 1 year.
my question is....i do a lot of flying for crop farmers... most of my drones are too slow to get decent range and get a decent view of the back ends of farms... would this be a decent drone to get video long range and at a decent speed?
Hey great video. Great break down of the different sections on the DJI fpv drone. I currently have a DJI mini 2 drone which I love. Maybe looking for something different and I love looking at fpv cinematic videos etc. not interested in flips etc.. would you get a DJI fpv drone or get the new DJI mini 3 with all its new features??? Any info be great..it be great to be able to test a DJI fpv drone out first
Great overview. I'm guessing the new remote works with existing DJI air units?
Thank you
How this can be real 4K wben the sensor is so small and dji website states that main sensor is recording in HD only, confused 😕
Thank you!
Sadly just by sticking my phone into three goggles lens. It sucks. No workaround yet.
I was in love with it until I heard that its obstacles avoidance will not stop an accident and all the other great flying modes that DJI's have aren't there. I may sit this one out and wait for an updated model that can avoid obstacles and has all the great flying modes. still a Great drone and great review thanks
Lol. Imagine it flying at max speed 😅 I don't think it would have the ability to stop/avoid a collision at 90mph lol. It would be fantastic if it did.
I saw people plug in the cable from the goggles to a display and they were watching the drone fly around from the tailgate of the truck and then another thing you’re not supposed to let sunlight hit the lenses were you view the images
Detailed review 👍😎
does it give you altitude and distance from home?
Yup! It's a bit hard to film, because I have to try and stick the camera inside the goggles, but you can see it in a few shots here and there.
@@Dcrainmaker ok thanks
Did you break anything in that bridge scrap?
Nope, not even a prop mark. Astounding. I’m still not 100% sure what I hit, I suspect it was the props, but might have been the top shell. I’d say 90/10 it was the rear props.
