With Rattata's abysmal 25 Special, Thunderbolt isn't going to be that useful on it. Its Normal STAB will definitely outdamage it against everything weak to Tbolt except for maybe Cloyster and Gyarados, and even against them I would be surprised if Tbolt did more. Same goes for the rest of its surprising Special movepool. Big problem though is a lack of any boosting and status moves on top of being so frail, at the end it probably won't be that much better than Pidgey.
@@OmegaTyrant You have a point. What I was planning on doing was teaching it dig. Hyper Fang and Dig would carry me through the game, with Thunderbolt helping out against Gyrados and Charizard.

Can be worth trying against Gyarados if you have the moveslot open, but in Lance's battle you'll probably want to try Mimicking Hyper Beam off it, which with STAB is going to be extremely powerful for Rattata. One special move that would be useful is Bubblebeam against the Rock/Ground types, as their equally bad Special and huge Defense will have that outdamage Dig, but they're usually not much of a threat for that to matter much.

I love this series! I look forward to every new episode. These videos are just as interesting and exciting regardless whether you are using a hard Pokémon or an easy one
Honestly it's always a shame to me when you go minimum battles. I perfer seeing the Mons hit their potential and much of the time I think you'd end up much faster when you grind a bit early on so you can chew up more trainers along the way.
I feel like that right from the start when brock was taken on at level 6... you have two ground pokemon available from the other gym trainer that will be a great source of xp and would have made the youngster battle on the following route a lot easier. I feel like any time resets are performed, instead the time should be factored in from waking up at the pokemon center and resuming as normal without resetting 🤔

Hey, your vids inspired me to do my own challenges! I tried a Houndour solo run for Silver with a lot of speed up, so my in-game 21 hours probably don't count but I ended the first elite four at level 70, which is not too bad but probably could have been lower. Because of my excitement beating Lance, I forgot to press the B button and now I have a Houndoom so RIP but that made me question. Once you to GSC, will you do the full, up until Red run, or will you end it at the first Elite Four?
I may be American, but I'd never heard the "leftenant" pronunciation outside the Horatio Hornblower movies (great series, btw; I recommend); as a side note, UA-cam's spell checker is perfectly okay with "leftenant"

I don’t understand... why don’t you fight more trainers or more wild battles if you need to be a higher level? You say you don’t like to rely on lucky strategies, but I’d say having to reset several times to get a win is the epitome of a lucky strategy
He said multiple times during the video he was going to try this with limited battles, if possible. This means he will try as much as possible to only fight forced fights and try not to get into many unnecessary fights. It's more of an additional challenge he likes to do, my guess to avoid leveling up to 90 to 100 for most of these runs (again, try to avoid if possible). The fact he's able to do some of these not only with the specific Pokemon he selected for the challenge, but many of them at lower levels than you'd expect, does say something (and also for bragging rights too).
Hello Jrose11 ! I really like this series, thank you for your efforts and good luck for the 200K. You mention sometimes that you could use a more scientific method, maybe you can keep track of your IRL time as well, if it's not to big of a hassle. So you can separate more easily the really good pokemon (short in-game time and short irl time because of less luck required), and the Poliwag ones (big IRL time because luck involved in the first part of th run).

@@questrequested9171 awww I thought he was including every "basic" pokémon
cause mewtu obviously wouldnt beat gastly
French Canadian here, and I had never heard *"leftenant"* in my nearly 30 years of life before this video.
Lieutenant ➙ Lieu (Place) + Tenant (Holder)
➙ *Placeholder*
Never watched any British WW2 stuff?
Its possible that Lieu was sometimes Leuf in Old French, hence Lef tenant
@@nathanielgrey4091 Indeed, I never did. I have passing knowledge in history but not at the depth that people with a passion for it have.
@@ninjacell2999 *"from Old French lieu/lou"*
Doesn't seem to be the case.
@@PsychOsmosis If it helps at all, I'm Canadian as well (French second language speaker) and the only reason I know it's leftenant over lieutenant is because both my parents are in the military and I did years of Cadets (my very first commanding officer was French-Canadian).
jokes on you guys, I already listen to these videos while falling asleep
With that color pallette, that Poliwag came out of those radioactive green waters. It’s no wonder it was a mutant.
Since you've already done the three starters' runs and the Pikachu run, I think you should do eevee next, since he's like the "fifth" starter of gen 1
Jrose you have so quickly became my favorite, not just Poketuber but UA-camr in general. Im genuinely looking forward to see how your UA-cam playlist evolves and Im so genuinely appreciative of your ability to help me fall back asleep when I randomly wake up to early. Keep uploading buddy
Wow Poliwag is surprisingly fast
I think it would be really cool if you presented the Pokemon's base stats in the beginning of the video and briefly mentioned what implications for the run this has
Dude personally these videos are released at a great time everyday. I get up and have it playing while. Making and eating breakfast and they are so chill but still engaging. Great job with these!
When you do the Nidorans, can you make it one episode where you compare the experiences side-by-side?
This sounds really cool, but then it wouldn't be a 53-part series. Also the commentary might be much more difficult.
do the runs at the same time with one controller lol
Maybe not side by side, but rather back to back? I really like this idea though.
He has in fact done the Nidorans in this way, congratulations
@@Frog-ux5qu Yeah I was happy when it came out. That was the day JRose made me a subscriber for life 🙂
This palette is probably my favorite so far! Keep up the great work, favorite thing on UA-cam at the moment
I think Dratini would be a good shout for this run.
Don’t think of it as a glitch, think of it as an unintended mechanic
Poliwag used Swagger. It was super effective!
I seem to remember a runner at a gdq event saying that levels that end in 0, 6, or 8 are better for some reason
Might be something to look into
Everyone: Im not gonna sleep today
Me: laughing in 5pm
Everyone: Im not gonna sleep today
Pastelle Sunsets: laughing in 5pm
Me, an intellectual who Needs to get his life in order: laughs sleepily in 8am
Your release time is so perfect for my Friday morning break in the uk, thank you !
Weedle when? We want weedle, word. Wish we were watching weedle!
I tried one.
It. Was. Horrible.
Leveled it up to 30 the legal way, was no way near beating brock. Decided to cheat myself a level 100 just to see if the game was beatable. Rival Fieval was a nightmare, Giovai 2 was almost impossible. Never got past Giovani 3, on almost 50 tries. Honastly don't think it's possible
@@FifthPromise it isn't, you're not getting past Agatha. I think someone did the calcs on it and you don't have the PP
@@Kanbei11 There's some German guy who did a run Itemless, with save states, who finished the game. With perfect stats, crits every time, always the right side of the ranges and misses from the opponents every time - it is acctualy possible. But the odds of that happening in a "normal" run is so unlikely that you are far more likely to win the lottery every day.
Man, these are genuinely really fun to watch. I love your informative, analytical commentating style. Please keep these up!
People: Ugh, why'd you have to wake me up at 2am in the morning...
Me: AEST TIME BOIIIIIIIIIIS
What accent is that? It’s lovely.
@@goracks69 Strayan lol
I love this series! I look forward to every new episode. These videos are just as interesting and exciting regardless whether you are using a hard Pokémon or an easy one
Honestly it's always a shame to me when you go minimum battles. I perfer seeing the Mons hit their potential and much of the time I think you'd end up much faster when you grind a bit early on so you can chew up more trainers along the way.
,Especially going after body slam. I feel like on most pokemon it would save him time in the end
I like pausing the videos and doing the probability maths before he gives the answer. I suck at maths. Keeps the brain juices flowing
@13:55 It's LIEUtenant because that's what we say in America and Lt Surge is the "Lightning American".
It's also Lorelei like "eye". ;p
Not to mention, I'm sure Americans would side with the French pronunciation over the British
(See: Feb/March 1778)
The videos are always great, thank you for continually making them but I don’t know how you aren’t burnt out haha
Great video as always, but the only thing I'm missing is the pokemons stats shown in the video. Maybe on the side or something
Will you pick up catch em all again? I really loved that series. I'm kinda doing one myself, I'm trying to get all Pokémon that I can get with one save of alpha sapphire.
Eventually. These runs keep me busy, but I've been working on B/W.
@@Jrose11 amazing, really looking forward to it. Also, good luck. I've been working on as for a very long time
Edit: I really like this series as well, don't take me wrong :)
@@Jrose11 Can't wait for the day when you try to catch em all in Pokemon Home. Hopefully it isn't years from now.
The translation from french wouldn't be "left tenant", it'd be smth like "location tenant" lol
When he said Leftenant, I first thought "oh, nice, it's because he was Left behind in the run"
@BuisGamesESP What he means is that non-American accents interpret “Lieutenant” as “Leftenant” for entirely unknown reasons
@@KnufWons you mean American accents interpret Lieutenant as "Lootenant" for some unknown reason
NinjaCell please take a look at the word Lieutenant and tell me where the f you’re getting an f sound in there. :)
NinjaCell In lieu of an argument I provide a counterexample to your “correct pronunciation” theory
I really appreciate this Series, it brings back so many good memories and nostalgia. Just what we need in these dire times. Thank you
İs the title a reference to False Swipe Gaming?
To be honest I was expecting something like what AuraGuardian did with that Unown video...
Probably a reference to comments thinking he'd be better then gastly
These videos are seriously incredible, I don’t get how you’re making them so quickly. Insane work ethic dude
Never upload runs you lose?
Magikarp tho
Nemesis Bloodryche that was an experiment more than anything
Screw a bedtime, time for some 5am Jrose. Love this series and hyped for season two already!! Thanks so much for your work, Jrose! Hoping you and yours are well!
Season Two is always better than Season One... except The 100, or The Good Wife, or Heroes...
@@Jrose11 Just be careful with Season 8 :)
@@Jrose11Or so... so.. so many animes.
By Canadian logic, should you be pronouncing her name as Loreleft too? (13:35)
Her name isn't Lorelelieu.
Tito Amadio that’s not how you spell lieutenant
Seven V Oh! This took me a while as I have yet to actually watch Jojo. But I’ve seen the meme. Lol.
Love this series keep it up! Super fascinating to find which pokemon you choose next to do.
Do Dratini next!! I want to see how well the agility/wrap combo does
Re-watching your videos at work, really getting me through the days with this pandemic mess. Thanks for the videos and keep em coming my fellow Canadian chum !
Perfect timing for my lunch break, cheers from France
I just now noticed these awesome new thumbnails! Very professional looking and pleasing to the eye. Love them!
Oh hey, Canadians pronounce Lieutenant the English way, too? Love it!
These videos are surprisingly calming, especially during finals week.
Its orientation week for me
FalseSwipeGaming be like: Hey that's my title!
Im canadian, and I have NEVER heard of "LEFT-tendent"
As an American, I can confirm that my fellow Americans will always side with the French over the British (See: February/March 1778)
Well, the lef-tenant pronunciation of lieutenant is the one your military uses so now you know.
The British pronunciation is old French so I'm not too sure on the French fact
I'm canadian aswell, I've heard it many times.
I'm guessing you just dont have family in the military.
I may be American, but I'd never heard the "leftenant" pronunciation outside the Horatio Hornblower movies (great series, btw; I recommend); as a side note, UA-cam's spell checker is perfectly okay with "leftenant"
Yo Poliwrath is scykoh's favorite pokemon, he needs to see this
Can you play through with nidoranM because it's my favourite evolution line from gen 1 that you haven't done yet
Funnily enough, in French Lt. Surge is actually called „Major Bob“, none of that lieutenant shit at all.
Please don't call the military gym leader a left tennant.
Sincerely,
Everyone
That's how Canadian and British people pronounce "lieutenant"
@@armorfrogentertainment Yeah, but Surge is American in canon, and therefore the American way of saying it is the correct way to refer to Surge
@@Scourge728 true
@@Scourge728 He also needs to fix his pronunciation of Lorelei. It's 100% Lore-Uh-Lie, not "Loralee". The name's Germanic roots affirm this as does her actually saying it that way in Pokemon Puzzle League for N64.
It sounds so *wrong*.
Just did the blue version on my emulator. I felt like I was 7 years old when I finaly had my all legendary team done with Mew, Mewtwo, Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres.
Always a pleasure to watch your vids mate.
I’m running red right now and my wife is running blue we want to accomplish all glitches that make game easier that don’t break the game and get missing no Mew and mewtwo as well. Can’t wait! Does gold and silver have any fun glitches ? I know they fixed a bunch of stuff
Magnemite run when? Want to see you suffer through all the normally easy fights like Giovanni
Perfectly uploaded for my break at work xD Keep up the great work :)
Also what a AMAZINGLY creative and absolut unique title :)
I feel like poliwag would be in A+ since it did do minimum battles
Glad to see the proper pronunciation for lieutenant!
Edit - first try elite four, was not expecting that
I don’t understand... why don’t you fight more trainers or more wild battles if you need to be a higher level?
You make my day better with every video! Keep it up man got nothing but positive things to say
I like the "leftenant" pronunciation, just because they use it in Pirates of the Caribbean.
This dude went through MT moon AFTER misty, what a legend!
Could you have replaced Body Slam with Ice Beam for Erika since you taught Amnesia over it anyway? Figured you didn't in case you needed it later but might make that fight more consistent for others trying this out! Been loving this series, keep it up my man.
90% of the comments: this video is midnight
9% of the comments: stuff about the video
1% of the comments (this): me groaning about how i can never make an original joke (sorry)
How many people actually live in Hawaii watching these videos? An hour ago was 2am Pacific Standard Time?
Alright, more awesome content! That Poochyena run is still on my mind, but still, great job!
I've lived in Canada for practically my whole life, and not once have I heard anyone here pronounce lieutenant as leftenant. XD
Yeah I'm not sure where he got that info from lol, I've literally never heard anyone call him leftenant
@@Sindrasos, apparently that's what the British call their lieutenants in the military, and Canada somewhat adopted that way of saying it, but not fully? Still sounds kinda wrong though.
I've heard it my entire life, but my parents are both Navy+I did several years of the Sea Cadet Program, so that might be why.
great, now you should do a poliwrath run for the full evolved category :D
Liked because of Star Trek
You could make a drinking game with these. Take a shot whenever he says "Badge Boost Glitch", "Rival Fieval", "Lore-elly" and "Consistent", and...well, you may be drunk enough to do these challenges yourself, lmao.
Seriously though, loving these videos, looking forward to the next one!
Mimic is another one
YES! Best way to spend my morning!
Ah yes, my four in the morning. :)
It IS Left-Tennant in English
It IS Lew- Tennant in American English
As a proud Englishman I appreciate the Canadians following us :)
I go by Star Trek pronunciation :P
Lt. Surge is the "Lightning American" he probably wouldn't take too kindly to being called Left-tennant.
