agreed my only wish is for more content, it takes a lot for me to get excited about a video but whenever these guys come out with a new one I go to watch it right away or asap. Great work gentlemen
Thanks! Actually me(Tom) and Rob from the club will be attending Historicon this year. We will make a point to say hello! And we hope dearly to snag some spots in the Peleliu campaign.
Yay! I always look at your channel and wish you had more uploads. Your content is always well narrated and produced. The games are well thought out, historically accurate, and fun to watch as well, great job!
REALLY good narrative and exceptional photography and audio.... and a beautifully unique approach to presenting a battle report. 10 out of 10... highly enjoyable.
Love how you have done this, the historic background, the graphics of the battlegroups and the stills with the report over the top. I particularly enjoyed the audio you have going on of weapons noises, vehicle engines, radio chatter etc. Where did you pull those audios from? Feels really slick, keep it up!
I'm assuming the models are 1/86 (they look smaller than 1/72). There was a W German company who made those in the 70s. Ok... it's 15mm. Yeah, my wargaming goes back to then with Panzerblitz/Panzer Leader. Love the portrait of "Aldo Raine" 👍
Battlegroup is one of my favorite WW2 rulesets, as it deals far more with unit morale and a commander dealing with limited amounts of orders per turn rather than an "I go, you go, everything dies" game. Did you remove the air support chits from the pool? What about Immobilization and Ammo Shortage chits? I would have really enjoyed to see some of the starting BR and a bit of discussion around how each force's morale was going at different phases of the engagement. Otherwise, I always enjoy watching and reading Battlegroup AARs. Thanks.
Yes Battlegroup is unmatched in our opinion. We do as a house rule remove all numerical chits. Air is usually allocated based on the scenario. There was air support in this game but wasn't impactful enough to make the video. We should probably display BR and points totals for each force, good point. We rarely play evenly matched games from a point perspective.
West wall breached! What a great topic and timely, too. I did not know they used bulldozer Shermans in ths manner. The production value here is just superb. Well done!
Great job on this match report! I really like it, especially the close-up pictures of the miniatures and the storytelling of the narrator! It's way better than all these shaky filmed videos where you don't see anything. Go on like this with your picture story! :)
Seriously the editing and writing skills are really on point, and im speaking soley on the intro at this point. That short little documentary was way more informative than most ive seen.
my great grandpa was in the Third Armored. He was in the 143rd Signal Batallion. He wrote a bunch of letters saying what he saw, and its really fascinating.
I was about to go to sleep last night before work and noticed that this video was premiering. Stayed up to watch the whole thing, such a good batrep. You guys make the best historical batrep videos I’ve ever seen. If you don’t already have one, consider making a Patreon! We need more content lol
Some of the best battle reports on the internet love the style and battle group ruleset. Have you guys ever considered playing the cold war version? Battlegroup NORTHAG (and it's supplement CENTAG)
Excellent video. If there is one thing I missed seeing is any discussion with the players about their strategies or the reasons behind key decisions. Otherwise, a great way to spend 20 minutes.
I was surprised to see the Marder move forward to close the range on a Stuart, surely it didn't need to do that. As always, there's the compulsion to move your pieces forward instead of letting them sit back and shoot. I suppose you could say this simulates the poor training received by German troops at that time of the war. I always wonder if smoke was used so much in real life, it's always critical in tactical level WW2 miniatures games, partly because of the way ranges have to be shortened to make a table top battle possible, I suppose.
In battlegroup, is there no reactive fire or overwatch mechanics? It was a bit surprising to see the Sherman 75 speed in front of the bunker like that.
There are rules for both of those. But unfortunately in a late day (whiskey fueled) lapse of judgement the German commander did not ensure his units were placed in ambush!
Thanks for the view and comment Anthony! Usually, the terrain structure comes from insulation foam (fairly standard practice), the topography is blended using sculptimold (also pretty common practice) and the step i think help most is gluing a full size piece of canvas over the whole board. This smooths the hole thing out, makes it appear seamless, and makes the play top very sturdy. Stay tuned! we are working on an exciting project right now.
I was a little disappointed when I saw that this wasn't a 28mm Bolt Action game but the quality of the video is so good that I will watch it anyway! Keep these coming!
Thanks Piers for the view and comment. We'd have a lot of boring Saturdays without Battlegroup. Well, if you ever find yourself in Cincinnati Ohio let us know!
.....And, wrong. 3rd Armored division was unique in that it, along with the 2nd Armored Hell on Wheels, was a "heavy" armored division with over 430 tanks. The other 14 U.S. armored divisions only had 250 tanks.
We just made our own house rules for smoke. Basically we use the same rules for normal indirect fire (coms check/ deviation), we just roll one extra d-12 to determine wind direction and the player has to declare its smoke before he begins the strike. If a vehicle is firing a smoke shell we do away with observation and hits because its not firing at a specific target and just roll the d-12 for wind direction. The vehicle just has to annotate how many smoke shells it has before the game just like HE/ AP. We then roll a d-6 the next turn to see if it stays around or dissipates. Not perfect rules, but just kinda something we came up with on the fly so we could use it in some of the scenarios we wanted to run. Hope that helps! ( this is Rick by the way)
Thanks! Yes, admittedly you end up seeing about 60% of the game in a video. In this case rick mostly kept units out of the firing arc of the bunker. Only the very end did the couple of tanks wonder in but at that time it wasn't the German turn and the bunker units were not in ambush, stupidly.
Cool, would you be able to make a short vid on making a table? Even as simple as looking over a table that is already built and talk about how you made it.
"BABE COME QUICK! LONG SHOT WARGAMING RELEASED ANOTHER VIDEO!"
That's how it be lmao
I've been historical wargaming for almost 35 years and your battle reports and table set ups are some of the best I've seen. Keep these videos coming.
That is quite a compliment Josh, Thank you!

Good to see you blokes back. A great AAR, to be expected, love that bren gun!

Doing the 'Nati wargaming scene proud!!! Wonderfully presented. Keep up the GREAT WORK!!!

Thanks for the view and comment! Most of the audio is extracted from military videos, public domain of course, from places like dvidshub.
Phenomenal battle report. This is exactly the kinda battle report i wanna see
Thanks Eric!
I keep coming back to this battle report. So good. Thanks guys for all the great videos.
❤❤❤Great stuff, thanks from a flames of war fan .
Very nicely done. An enjoyable and informative 20 minutes, with very high production values - and a great table!

First class batrep! Terrain, armies, maps and explanations, everything's perfect! 👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it

Thanks a lot for watching and commenting. Stay tuned we are hoping to release another video soon.
Love these Battlegroup AAR’s! Keep up the great work!
Hi guys more quality. Love the narrative style as well. Shared to MWG. All the best but for me back to French Somaliland
I love your World War 2 campaigns. Keep it up. Thanks!
Excellent video. Could you share your rules for hidden deployment and smoke rounds?
my great grandpa was in the Third Armored. He was in the 143rd Signal Batallion. He wrote a bunch of letters saying what he saw, and its really fascinating.
These are fantastic! Great narrative, special effects, and detailed board and miniatures
Another great one - fine table and report
Fantastic looking table with the dragon’s teeth running the full width, and a well presented video with a gripping narrative
My father in law was with the 36 th armored infantry attached to the 3 rd armored he saw a lot of combat great guy I loved his stories
It is how batreps have to be! Excellent work! Narration, sound effects, fotos... pure quality!
Thank you for your work!

Thanks guys for the enjoyable video, a nice sharp little engagement!
What an amazing table, you guys kill it!
Amazing table, great aar! Thanks for sharing!
Amazing rep guys. Loved it
Just stumbled on this, super cool! The terrain and painting are top notch!
Great job on history lesson, miniatures, scenery, and battle report!

Most excellent battle report - stylish and descriptive with surprise elements that draw the viewer into the war story of the game.
Great presentation.
Table looks great as well
These are some of the best tabletop AAR's out there. Well done!
Great video and beautiful terrain board. This is the first time I heard of and viewed your site. I just subscribed. Keep up the great work.
Man, I am really enjoying these battlereports!

Amazing work!! How big is the table!? Its perfect
Thanks, its 6x10
@@LongShotWargaming that’s awesome, hope to see more videos soon!
Great table, nicely painted figures, a well flowing battle report! Subbed….
Thanks, Welcome!
what a cracking video, that's how its done, fantastic table as well. Would love to see some in game action as well. Keep up the great vids 😀👍
Thanks 👍
I didn't think the Stuart's 37mm gun had a smoke, or even WP, round.
They may not have, not sure.
That was a fun watch, thank you for putting it on.
More awesome content guys!
Excellent video to entertain me during my lunch hour
Very well done !!! Ty.
Such a cool video. You are so good at telling the narrative of the game.
Thanks Matt!
This is awesome! Can’t wait for the next one.
A great format to story tell the wargame, enjoyed it.
Here from Little Wars. Excellent channel, and an instant sub.
Welcome, thanks for the sub!
You have such exceptional tables. Also how do you get such seamless looking table tops with an 8x6 table? Is that really just one big sheet?!
Thanks for the view and comment Anthony! Have you guys played crossfire? It’s a really cool ruleset!
Great stuff, folks. Keep 'em coming.
Had no idea about using dirt to cover dragons teeth and bunkers....thank you.
Yes, its a cool example of battlefield ingenuity. Field expedient problem solving at its finest.
I was a little disappointed when I saw that this wasn't a 28mm Bolt Action game but the quality of the video is so good that I will watch it anyway! Keep these coming!
Well that makes writing it worthwhile.
When can we come and play?

Fantastic as always!
Really great video!
Best batreps! Keep it up gents
Great AAR. You use a number of great house rules - smoke, hidden deployment/detection - can you share these please?
Are you guys okay? Are you coming back? Hope you're well. 👍🏻
We are well! Just busy haha but, i'm happy to say we posted a video today!!
That was…awesome! Thanks fellas!
Loved the battle report!
.....And, wrong. 3rd Armored division was unique in that it, along with the 2nd Armored Hell on Wheels, was a "heavy" armored division with over 430 tanks. The other 14 U.S. armored divisions only had 250 tanks.
Along with 1st Armored which switched from a heavy to a standard armored division in Italy after that invasion and a lull in the fighting.
Outstanding report!
Haven't heard from you gentlemen in a minute. You all doing alright? 😯
We're good! We posted a new video today! check it out. Thanks for the comment.
Awesome work !
Thanks Richard!
Wow
Simply wow
More please
Excellent!
Great looking game!
I love your guys content it has inspired me to collect but can you make a video displaying your entire collection?
Very low effort on the table's decor uh :P
You guy always deliver amazing table. I am jealous!
Thanks for the view and comment!
I’m a beginning Battlegroup player. I can’t find rules for smoke. Where can I find those?
(Awesome report, by the way!)
We just made our own house rules for smoke. Yeah, what he said.
Thanks!
@@LongShotWargaming Excellent! This is the only thing missing from this otherwise superb rule system - which is our'go to' set for my club
Very well done
Always hyped for when a new video drops
Thanks SPUD!
Nicely shown however I don't understand why the bunker gun didn't participate....?
Thanks! Yes, admittedly you end up seeing about 60% of the game in a video. In this case rick mostly kept units out of the firing arc of the bunker. Only the very end did the couple of tanks wonder in but at that time it wasn't the German turn and the bunker units were not in ambush, stupidly.
Always great! 😎
Incredible! All other battle report videos are bullshit.. you set a new standard - Thank you!
When was the second StuGIII that was pinned at 15:43 get destroyed? Was its destruction not shown and narrated?
Nice table!
Really impressive. Do you remember where you found the bunker?
Thanks! the bunker is a scratch build using mdf.
How often will you play on that table? It seems very specifically made for this battle.
We usually play it back and forth a couple times until everyone has had their fill, then sadly it get pulled up to make room for the next one.
Cool, would you be able to make a short vid on making a table? Even as simple as looking over a table that is already built and talk about how you made it.
well done lovely terrain
Best one yet!
16:39 - You mean, the lightly armored Stuart was no match for the 75mm gun?
Great vid. What rules are you using? It looks like FoW.
Dammit. Sorry. Question answered by the end of the vid. Carry on.
Man o man. That was good. The terrain, models, story are great.
Speaking of terrain, between this and Kursk, how long does it usually take to make?
Thanks D E! The big custom tables tend to take a month or so.
@@LongShotWargaming That long huh? I can see why, the results are awesome!
Gotta ask. Is that a real/working Bren and 249 in the back of the room?
Nope, inert, ...sadly.
@@LongShotWargaming It's ok. You still win best game room I've ever seen by far. Nice brad pitt portrait, I love that movie.
You should do a how to play battlegroup video 👍
