My hot take is that while strong, the lack of tough fighter in the army as a whole balances it out compared to some other factions who have close quarter specialists with a truly terrifying number of special rules

I’m happy to see a 3rd edition come out, but really I hope it’s more of a 2.5 where they streamline the rulebook and adjust a few units while leaving everything else the same.

Man, I really hope they make Medium and Heavy Machine Guns more suppressive. Feels weird to have an MG34 nest opening up be no more alarming than a couple blokes with Kar-98s.

Even the two vechicles can be iffy, historically speaking.
really hope thay update k47 at the same time as that game needs some love and i think with the right support could be huge.
Glad you mentioned Middle Earth: it was my intro to wargaming (played it before playing Fantasy 8th Edition and 40k), and the rules are basially the same as they were in 2001. It's nice that models that were released in 2002 can still win tournaments.
I'm hopeful that Bolt Action V3 will be similar: feel the same, but a few tweaks to make other choices more appealing, as that can only help Warlord sell more models and get more players interested in the game.

My Granddad served in the Australian 2/2nd Machinegun Battalion, taking part in both El Alamein battles as well as the landing at Lae and the Borneo Campaign. I just want to be able to build a list that represents how his unit fought.
Lets hope he fixes armored transports, shooting buildings and mortars/MMG interactions with exceptional damage.

I am excited for this! The errata is pretty big and it has been 8 years since 2nd edition. I hope their pre-order process is better than “other companies”😅.
I hope they will make the experimental aircraft rules that are on their site official rules now. Here aircraft are not abstract extensions of a forward observer but actual vehicles that are part of your army similar to tanks for instance.
Battlefront always did an if you have the current hard cover rule book you got a free new edition soft cover book with all the same stuff in it. So you only had to effectively buy every 2nd rule book

I mean kinda looking forward to this, I had just gotten into bolt action in the last year and only got the base rules and the Canadian d-day book. With what I have seen in some other systems, new systems every six month, 3 in 16 years is perfectly fine with me.
I hope that they will make Konflikt '47 to a optional sourcebook to the normal Bolt Action armies.
Honestly, new editions for tabletop games should only come out when they are needed.
New more sensible rules for BA are really needed.
The game edition has been out for 8 years with dozens of supplements. Rules interaction with 50+ page FAQ. time to consolidate.

This year will be the year I start playing Bolt Action, I reckon.
I've been watching a lot of Bolt Action videos the last few weeks. This makes me excited. If I can get some Table Top Sim games with some people and learn the rules with them, I might buy either a French or Japanese army, provided they're supported well at the start. IDK if this is something you do regularly but I'd definitely rejoin the discord if you were hosting a small 500 point tournament for new people.
I’m hoping they do something to make half tracks as attractive to take as trucks.
The soft skin half track is more attractive than trucks.
But i get what youre tryna say, youre saying the armoured half tracks need to become more attractive.
I am hopeful that armoured half tracks and self propelled artillery will become less unatteactive.
If 3rd keeps the power imbalance between transports and armoured fighting vehicles; I'll be dissapointed.

Really glad to see some optimism! My group is being very pessimistic about the change despite the clear need for a new edition. I’m really excited! Biggest things I’m hoping for are better points rebalancing (I want to use StuGs without feeling bad for not taking a panzer), better MMGs and not removing teams from single sniper shots, and making open topped not so brutal, or at least give open topped a much larger points reduction.

One thing I have never understood about Bolt Action is why the two Squad platoon is the basis for maneuver units. I am retired military and have *never* seen a two squad platoon. If the platoon is understrength it is usually reorganized into multiple fire teams. The saying is “two up one back” for a reason. Do you have any insight on that?
Also I have been watching some of your Konflikt 47 videos. and would appreciate you keeping us in the colonies updated on how that edition might be changing. I moved and kept all of my WW2 and Weird War stuff even if it was not finished.
I want to start bolt action but i will wait till 3rd edition to start, really hoping for more eastern front starter sets!

I'm glad I'm poor so I decided to hold off getting the "Armies of" books to go with the starter set I got in March.

On one hand, probably a good time to stick with 2e (Which I literally just got the rulebook about a month ago), and pick up the old Armies and Campaign books cheap...I just hope they keep enough of an option to go Template-less.
My Wishlist on the matter: Consideration for people that want to play in Different Scales (I understand Hail Caesar through Black Powder have a good reputation for supporting as small as 6mm, but Bolt Action's kinda wandering in the 28mm only direction...I'm building in 15mm and would like to not houserule too much to continue doing so (as is, I'm looking to use the "Inside Buildings" High Explosion chart...)

mmg teams need to pin even if they miss and because they are pricey in points imo they should get d2 pins if they hit. Then i can see them being used but not auto include

I literally just ordered the Band of Brothers box set, so I could start this game. Checked front of box- no new edition sticker. :( I have the worst timing with this stuff.

Oh great, another rule book to purchase. Often with new editions of rules, changes aren't always to streamline or speed up the game process. GW for instance, changing editions often means screwing over customers with point changes, eliminating units and as a way to push sales to a different army structure. Perhaps it is harder to do this with historical gaming, but I'm not sure the motives aren't a bit similar.
In fairness its been 8 years since the last edition and many of the rules do need touching up

Or at least the core rules. Sell army books, sure, but even GW has relented and does free core rules.
@@wyatttyson7737 Would definitely be nice, though I have a bit more lenience towards Warlord as the core factions will be included within the 3rd edition book and their cost of entry is much lower model wise. Though Achtung panzer had a free rules pdf drop just before release so who knows?

I’ve been a 40K guy for a long time now (painting, not so much playing). Now I am wanting something different. Even though I don’t play much I still build armies based on the rules. Bolt Action has been an interesting to me for a bit but I’ve never pulled the trigger. The 3rd edition has peaked my interest. Do we know if there are going to be new minis associated with the new addition? You mentioned a starter set. Do you think they will be new sculpts?
I’m interested in American forces so do you have a suggestion what box set to get?

@SCHRUBBE1966 bolt action is model agnostic. There is no requirement to buy Warlord minis. I suspect we will continue to see refreshes of metal kits into plastic or resin like with France but that didn't invalidate the old models
Any word about the rules for firing smoke being updated? The current rules don’t make sense. Currently if the smoke doesn’t land on target the opposing player decides where it lands. The landing point should be randomly determined like the smoke barrage rule.

Only reason i am salty about the retirement of the 2md amd Army of books is that i just bought them less than a month before they made this announcement.
I imagine plenty of people will still want to play 2e until the armies of books get released for 3e. You should still be able to get some bang for your buck hopefully

Not liking that the army books will become obsolete. I get it and it's not a huge deal but It makes me anxious... any how I like v2 and didn't have many issues with v1 even but I'm a filthy casual. Not sure if I'll jump on v3 but I'm open to a bit of change if it really improves the game.

Was hoping to start this game with Hungarians. Should I hold and see if they're being supported before buying?
Hungarians are supported in 2e. They're mostly German models with certain paints / decals and I think special rules from the Armies of the Axis book.
I can't see the rules not being released and in the short term you could run them as Germans or play 2e as its still a great edition

From what I’ve seen all the units will still be legal, so if you’re buying stuff because you like them then there’s no reason not to.
If you’re going for being meta then it will be awhile even after the rules are out for anything to really get established, so I say to just go for it
At the end of the day you will always need rifleman and some lmgs / Heavy weapons.
If you're not fussed about the mets there's no reason to not keep collecting (plus there's nothing stopping you playing 2e)
I have both Americans and Germans in the works but if they have a starter set with new Soviet models and Germans i would be all over it.

I was just getting into Bolt Action and Konflikt 47. Good thing I didnt drop money on the books to start a Hungarian army..
I really hope this isn't the 10th edition of Bolt Action. I'm not interested in that sort of game. I want a war game, not a board game.
WG should do an advanced version of the Bolt Action rules as the rules set is a bit basic and this is prob due to wanting the game to be accesable to all ages, I even wrote a set of in-house rules to up-level/grade the current ones so I'm looking forward to the 3rd edition.
Also kinda hope they ditch templates. I don't think they will though 😢
Only reason I don't get into this stuff is model quality. It all just looks so goofy especially infantry. When they make better sculpts, I'm in.
I haven't got any myself but looking into it. Seen a fair few comments saying most players don't mind I'd you use alternative minis such as Perry or Wargames Atlantic. Might be worth looking into?

Warlord Games not doing free core rules while GW is going to have both their major in house games having free core rule books is super funny to me. Even funnier that Mordian’s reaction to the “if you buy an old starter set now you’ll get free next edition rule book when it comes out” and then hit us with “GW wouldn’t do that.”
Mordian GW made the rules free. The Codexes are still paid but the Core Rules, Balance Updates, Points Costs, basic Indexes, and even the entire Combat Patrol Game Mode Rules are free. GW gets a lot wrong but honestly this is an easy GW Dub.
I praised GW a lot when they did the free rules. I lambast GW now because they basically double paywall everything behind both a codex and the App.
@@MordianGlory But Warlord games are also still paywalling Bolt Action but for everything. Its perfectly possible to play 10th Edition for “free” through Combat Patrol and currently for any faction that doesn’t have a codex yet.
True, when the codexes come out the rules for those factions stop being free, but the Core Rules will always be free. Had Bolt Action’s core rules been free I’d have been interested, but as is I’m not at all. Fully aware and okay with the fact that I’d have to pay for army books, too. There really isn’t an excuse for it if even GW does it.
