  • After finally finishing my project up in Moab, I decided to soak up as much of the southern climate as I could before heading back up into the frigid Montana winter. Destination: Sand Hollow State Park.
I've seen a lot of video from this area from another UA-cam channel, Matt's Off-road Recovery, and it looked like a nice spot to decompress from the month long project, and (hopefully) soak in some warm sunny days, and have one last foray with my UTV before I make my way back up to the snowy north country.

I am constantly aware of how much I love the truck camper towing a side by side set up. Adventure is just everywhere. Like you, on my own so extra precautions are necessary. Really enjoyed this one.

Me too buddy. It's such a versatile setup. Work, adventure, play, sleep, eat! It's about as luxurious as I could ask for.

I’m so glad at least some respect the challenges, limitations, and cautions to be observed when traveling the backcourt solo. You showed us some really spectacular scenery as well as the rock crawling prowess of your 6x6. Now all you have to do is train Zelda to be your camera dog! Be safe and I’ll see you next week.

Thanks bill. Although to be honest, sand hollow is far from the backcountry! It's a 20,000 acre open play area that's at most 5 miles from civilization! Such an amazing place though. The routes and obstacles to enjoy and attempt are seemingly endless. Have a good one!

Yeah for sure! A couple things I'm really not a fan of, but those are minuscule in the grand scheme of things.

Beautiful scenery, makes me ready for another road tip. Your video really shows the advantages of the 6x6 and its long wheel base. Sounds like you were in the right place at the right time helping that feller out, stay safe!

Heck yeah buddy it's been a helluva fun time down here in the southern part of the country. Yeah I met up with a fellow youtuber today and I got another crack at this trail. It definitely gets even hairier after the point I turned around but it was a ton of fun and am amazed that my 6x6 was pretty much able to do the same lines as a heavily modified rock crawling rig. It's not a rock crawler, though hahaha. Nothing compares to a heavily modified vehicle with solid axles!

What an awesome place to go off-roading. It's a good thing you were there to help that dude with his finger. Also I feel your pain with the Gopro. Their great when they work right!

Yep. Glad I was able to help, too. He was really in disbelief with himself when he did that; he always criticized those who did the same thing....and then he ended up doing it as well.
It's a reflex impulse that comes out of nowhere seemingly. I did it once as well. Luckily I didnt roll. But scary nonetheless.
      Thanks for watching!

I agree. In fact, most times that I go places, I intend to start one. But then, I get lazy! Thanks for the advice though. I’ll make sure to put more effort into making one. Not the next one, but probably the one(s) after that.

Was curious to know what kinda toy was hiding inside that trailer. Looks like lots of fun...and that Can Am makes for a pretty darn good platform for Old Glory!

Saw your question on truck house life about attracting viewers and what type/age of viewers. I watch for two reasons. I have a 2010 NL and I like MT and the areas you travel to. When I see your channel I see someone with a considerable investment in truck, camper, trailer andatv. This is out of the budget for most younger viewers. You also work and don't rely on you tube for income. These factors likely make your content more attractive to older viewers. If I were looking to build this channel, I'd capitalize on what you have. I focus on how to make a living with your set up. How to find work, what tools you need, etc. I suspect there are many people that dream about doing this and your way would seem possible to them. But what do I know? Not much I want to retire and go travel and you have provided some great ideas. Thanks.

@@Retired-nohurry thanks for your insight, sir. I appreciate it. I've never really seen UA-cam as a source that would be good enough of a revenue creator to absorb the investment I have made into my setup, yes. Perhaps one day it could help out and I definitely look forward to that day, but for now I am happy where I am with what i do. The only problem is how much time it takes to create these videos. I could just sling them out there all willy nilly, but i really am trying to be particular and show you and everyone else, in the best way i possibly can, the experiences i find myself in. And that takes time! Time that i oftentimes find myself short of. Take, for instance, my current situation: I am meeting up with my cousins for a snowmobile rendezvous for the next 4 days...I havent even started editing my next video yet! When the heck am I going to find time for that!? Hahaha, it's all good. I'll just have to cut one night short so I can edit my next video and get it to y'all.
      Cheers

@@Retired-nohurry also, I find it interesting when people my age arent attracted to the setup I have, and then they go and get a sprinter van such as a revel instead. I'm confused by this logic: I was able to get this entire setup including the UTV for less than the cost of one of those revels....and I am more capable offroad with this ram as well.
I think maybe it's just the allure of "living the vanlife" over practicality.
Dont get me wrong, though. Those revel vans are really sweet. They're just impractical for my application.

@@downbytheriver501 yeah, a elderly, that means older than me, friend has a revel 4x4 . Nice but too small for me for long term. I think you've got a great setup. Enjoy the snowmobiling. I was at West Yellowstone this spring right after the park opened. Fun place.

You could repost the last quarter of this as “in search for the perfect camping spot on the red planet of mars” and it would be rather convincing. Kinda cool how maneuvering through the terrain is like the exact polar opposite of those at sea videos where ships are maneuvering through storms. Totally different environments but the rock formations look like snapshots of waves. Pretty cool stuff man...Anyways, off to go lick a few more frogs! ✌️

I was constantly amazed at the geology of this area. Definitely looks like stratified waves! Get u some of that 5-MeO-DMT! Hhahaha
