  • Went for a quick trip into one of my favorite moutain ranges. Managed to help a semi truck get unstuck, too!

I would have asked the semi guy to let me by first.

Thanks! Feeling's mutual. I am in Washington currently, not sure if you're from there but the trees in the background of some of your pics looks like it may be around here.

Beautiful spot and nice rig. I found you by researching Northern Lite campers for myself.

Why is a semi even going there?
12,000 pounds? That doesn’t sound right.

    • @downbytheriver501

When I’m loaded, I weigh in at 12,400 lbs. right at max GVWR.

    Hold on now.
    They don't ""Rent"" sheep?
Gotta say the extra weight is what I think made it possible to get the rig out.
Do unto others as you;d have them do unto you.
Something I haven't seen or heard you mention yet is a radio system. Do you have one & what type? Being in such remote locations it's kinda mandatory aye?

    • @downbytheriver501
      @downbytheriver501  3 роки тому +1

I dont think they rent them, but leasing is a potential option...?
Yep, I agree the extra weight really helps ground that power better to the tires.
No radio as of yet. I should really look into that. Suggestions?

It was so hot, though! I tried my hardest to get to the mountains for as much as possible. It's nice up at higher altitudes when its scorching down in the valleys.

What the heck was a semi doing on that tiny forest road? What would you do if you come upon him going the other way?

There are several christian camps down this road that are supplied by...I guess...semis. i was surprised to see one on this road because it is not big vehicle friendly, especially when you get to the last 7 miles of it.

That new camera seems to be doing really good for you. The footage is excellent.
I'm a huge fan of truck campers, always have been. Have some questions.
Do you have an issue with condensation?
Is your Northern Light, truly in your opinion a four-season camper?
Are you able to regulate a decent temperature during the colder months?
Do you have to use alternative heating sources when boondocking? If so, what do you use?
Do you have to do anything special, to keep your water lines from freezing while boondocking?
Do you lower your tire pressure while you're out in the back country?
We love your rig, how is your fuel economy with the truck camper? How do your house batteries hold up, while boondocking?
Do you have to do anything special, conserving energy?
Lastly, how's life traveling with a large dog. PS, We love your dog. LOL We love the fact that you don't just focus on the sites where you travel, but you also incorporate actual life within your truck camper. Please keep that up, we love that about your channel. You're helping us answer a lot of questions by doing that. Anyway, we just thought we would ask a series of random questions that were interested in finding out. Maybe helping you with an idea for a upcoming video.
Once again, we are wishing you nothing but safe travels and we're looking forward to your next video upload. Cheers

Hi, thanks again for the reply!
      Onto the questions...
Yes, condensation is always an issue that I have to be cognizant and proactive about. Usually open up the couple cupboards prone to condensation, and also lift the bed every few days to dry it out.
Yes, the northern lite has done a good job of being a 4 season camper. One thing I dislike about it, however, is this year had only 200 watts of solar(newest models have 370). This is insufficient for boondocking in the winter. but then again, it would probably take at least 400 watts to maintain battery life when temps are very cold and the furnace is running every 10 minutes.

    • @downbytheriver501
      @downbytheriver501  3 роки тому +2

It regulates the temps pretty decently. I usually set my thermostat around 55 at night and it has no problem keeping that temp, although getting a small fan to help circulate the air up into the cab over would be a wise investment.
I have 2 contingency plans during the winter. First is, of course, my furnace. I carry a honda 2200 to top off the batteries when necessary and/or to run a small ceramic heater. But if I am camping in a location not conducive to that, I will break out my Olympian wave 3 catalytic heater. It maintains interior temps nicely(55-70) until about 15 degrees F.
Yes, I lower air pressure when the roads get bumpy and helps greatly with ride comfort.
Fuel economy is around 12.5-14mpg average. If I go 55 or 60 on flat ground with no winds I will average 15-16.
Used to get better mpg, but now that I upgraded to 35" grippy toyo AT3s and have a large bullbar on front, my economy has suffered a bit.

Energy conservation is a huge issue in the winter. It's a constant battle that I'm seemingly always losing. I've considered upgrading my battery bank, solar array, and solar charge controller...until I saw the price to do that. Don't feel like dropping 5-10k on that.
The 6 volt lifeline GPL-4CT batteries have done very well so far and is the best, most reliable batteries I could afford when I got the camper over a year ago. They're holding up well.
Traveling with my pup has proven to be challenging, but I wouldn't have it any other way. Except Maybe less fur, less dirt, less water spots on my nice sapele trim, less dog farts when its subzero and I have to crack open a window or face biological attack on my olfactory senses...
Yeah, those things can definitely be a drag but he makes up for it with being the great dog he is.
Thanks for the compliments and kind words! Fortunately, you caught me at the perfect time where I have some downtime and was able to answer your questions.
      Cheers!
