I just upgraded from a Miller Digital Infinite and this helmet has been a dream to work with everything is great clarity was my biggest thing when upgrading and i believe i chose the right one.
My a50 died mid weld a couple months ago and my local weld shop only had the a60 so i grabbed it. The only nicer thing about this helmet is the larger viewing area. The a60 doesnt have true color, you get the old green with orange weld puddle... no visability beyond the weld. This was shocking as the A50 had true color and you could see everything around the work piece. The next infuriating thing was that you have to hold the grind button for 3 full seconds. So when you are doing welds that require a grind back in the crator you loose 6 seconds each grind, which means its faster just to switch to a clear shield lid (about 2 seconds) then fumble for the grind button. The sensitivity of the a60 is way to higher. Even with the ensitivity turned down all the way, a wire wheel can make it flick in and off. It is completly unusable outside as even an overcast day can cause the lens to flick on and off. The auto light sensing mode is nausiating. You get the lens pulsing light dark as the weld puddle flickers when doing something like whipping 6011 rod. The internal screen cannot be viewed with the lid down so you still have to take the helmet off to adjust anything, on the a50 the screen contrast was bright enough and the buttons usable with the lid down. The head gear is so flimsy that you cannt use the helmet out of position. The helmet will flop over onto your face, the only work around is to use it on a hardhat. But esab only makes hard hat adapters that clumsly fit in to the ear muff slots on a standard carpenter hard hat. For some reason they didnt make adapters for a welders hardhat (brimless with quick mount lid adpaters built in) Then add in the requirement for new weld lens.. the only diferance between an a50 front lens and a a60 lens is the a60 has slightly shorter tab inlets around the nose... so you can use a a60 lens on an a50 but not the otherway around.. geuss what lens costs more? I just said f*** it and started cutting the tabs on the a50 lens down with abox cutter to save a $1.50 a lens. This is the first autotint i have ever owned that makes my job harder. Ive stopped using it and switched back to my pipe fitters none auto tint till i can find a replacement for it. The a60 is ment for a hobbiest or a light comercial guy working in a little shop alone.

@@Toddler1967 i never use the ambers, and the A60 is definitely not true color, it looks the same as running old School single shade glass: green with a dark orange weld puddle. there is three other guys in the shop im currently at now with a50 helmets, i had them weld with mine... all three confirmed its not even close to the A50 for clarity and color. the A60 is expensive garbage. i just dropped a 4.25x2 auto tint true color lens in my pipe helmet... for $100 it beats the snot out of the A60 for clarity and usability. if i get time i will make a video showing the difference its staggering.
I have questions, inside the A60 there is plastic stand off over moulded hollow tube in front of your mouth. seems like some attachment screws in there, any idea what that is for, for a60 on its own. there is nothing in the manual. also Can a A60 be upgraded to a A60 air. A60 air seem to have a different shape helmet with a pipe connector on the top left. i dont see any upgrade option or kit on the esab website
My daughter is getting ready to go to welding school she will be a pipefitter welder and I'm trying to pick a hood for her. I have always have miller hoods. Is this one better than a miller elite? For a work setting not a hobby setting
Definitely Miller is becoming outdated. You got these available: Optrel crystal clear Optrel panoramax CLT Lincoln 3350 4c Esab A60 Or the classic pipeliner You can get nice welding hoods from outlaw leather I wore mine when I was in school but after the headgear became a pain

We sell more Vikings but the Sentinel has a lot more bells and whistles / brighter with that Amber lens. Clarity is similar. The ESAB has more technology in the interface.
I have both the a60 and the optrel clt2.0. The clarity of the optrel beats the a60 hands down. Both good hoods but the optrel beats it in color and clarity.
@@rodneylake2 I’ve used the optrel working in the field as a heavy equipment mechanic specializing in welding and line boring as you can imagine this field of work/environment can be very difficult at times. I haven’t had any issues with any of the optrel products I own. They make a quality product.
Just watched this. Leaving my Optrel Helix CLT for this Esab A60. Optrel manuel mode only goes down to shade 7, can't use a cutting torch with it. On automatic it goes down to shade 4, but it kept changing from light to dark, THAT WILL NOT WORK. Also the headgear has already worn to where it will not stay up, PISSES ME OFF. Finally, the viewing design is extremely annoying. The cut out for your nose is the problem. Example: take 1 finger and slowly put it up to your face, YOU SEE DOUBLE, IT SUCKS. I have been welding for 32 yrs. Don't waste your money on Optrel.
Nice review but I asked a friend which one would he use he stated a klutch 1700 cause of the clear screen. Now I would like to know since it’s yellow how it is clear?

I got a sentinel A50 and just have started to have some problems I have to click the grinding button and click the small button on the touch screen to use the touch screen settings and if I long press the outside grinding button it will not enter the grinding setting there’s no blinking light 😢 so I think it’s a electric board fault design
They are really similar in viewing area. The Sentinel is a bit brighter! The Viking we do sell more of at the lower price point you get a lot of value.
How do I get the weld to change to a blue colour rather than green type colour when welding can it b done inside or is there a special lens that has to b change for it to turn blue when start arc?
Hey! When you use the new lens it will be more true color so not green anymore. If you have one on the way you will know! The Amber lenses make it a bit brighter too!
Someone was saying in another vid that using the amber lens made the true color feature not work(i.e. ypu see green). According to him it only worked with the clear lens.

Can you lock shade on lvl 4, 5 or 6 for oxy-welding/cutting?

Amber lens doesn't impair visibility and actually increases vision in darker lighting
The Amber lens makes it brighter! It does not look yellow at all

My a60 only does the green. Amber lens makes it much darker and even more green. This is definatly not a true color lens... stick with the a50
