One thing concerning safety while using this, unsure if it’s in the firestarter that comes with it (aka instruction manual) because it is designed to be used with a constant source air supply, if you do not have it hooked up to the Fanny pack and have the Fanny pack blowing enough air you can suffer from the same thing scuba divers have to worry about where the co2 you exhale pushes out all the o2 you need to be able to inhale. There’s a fancy name for that phenomenon but I’ve had too many concussions to remember everything I’ve ever learned. On a side note good job with the video. More welders need to be wearing these things. Like yourself I also spent many years without one before deciding I needed one.

Thank you for the support! As a scuba diver myself I wonder if you are thinking about “the bends” or nitrogen toxicity. I could definitely see not wearing the pack you could get CO2 poisoning. I’m glad you got one or something similar too, you never meet very many “old” welders.

@@SteelDogFab no its something we learned about that's usually a more prevalent problem with the snorkel. poorly designed full face snorkels are even worse for it. all the dead space traps the co2 you breathe out. I wish I could remember the name of it but can not. it's usually not too common for the scuba apparatus since there is very little dead space in most of the 2nd stage regulators now a days. I wish more welding schools had Paprs on hand to demonstrate their usefulness. most people don't wear them because they either don't know about them or think because no one else uses them that they don't need them either.

@@scrapmanindustries if that were the case wouldnt all welding helmets put you at risk for co2 poisoning. that logic seems sketch.

@@pearlrival3124 there is loads more ventilation on normal helmets. Meaning the CO2 can’t really hang out for too long before it’s replaced with air from around you. The papr hood is designed to not really let air in except from the filter pack. With out the blower pushing in fresh air you’re just rebreathing dirty air. Sure some new air might make it into the system but not nearly as much as is designed. Look up what happens with cheaper full faced snorkels if you don’t believe me.

@@scrapmanindustries this isnt full face. the bottom and top of the helmet is very much open... the concept for the papr is positive pressure by pushing clean air in it keeps the dirty air out. without the papr installed it will still function.

Great review! I was wondering if somebody put this on without welding for the same period of time, how the filter looks like? Thanks.

Thank you! Depends on the air quality where you live I would guess!

it looks like a copy of 3m ad flow filter

I looked into those 3M systems too, they are definitely more. A good friend of mine only uses 3M stuff
