Penny's / Lili's Theme - Mr. Bear / Cold-Hearted Doll (Extended) - Advance Wars Days of Ruin
Вставка

- Ah...Penny. My favorite Days of Ruin character. The only reason why I never extended her theme is because someone else already did. However. I decided that it just kept bugging me too much. so I just did it. I'm sure Mr. Bear will be happy about that. Aren't you, Mr. Bear? Heehee!
Penny's theme certainly has that air of instability. It's perfect for her (and a bit for me). I use Penny often because her theme is one of my favorite and because she's my favorite character. We shall destroy you all! Even you Caulder! Stormfront! STORMFRONT!!!
Image/Music not made by me, only extended as usual!

"Yaaaaaay! More units! Mr. Bear loves units!"
The great owl is barely holding together! It's falling apart!

Kinda surprised that this is one of the more popular themes. Then again, it's so dang catchy and stands out from the other CO themes. Definitely still one of my favorites of the series. It's also got the appeal of having a bit of a puzzle by having vocals that many people try to interpret; taking a closer look at the depths of Penny's broken mind. This theme is messed up, truly the result of Caulder's twisted personality.
This sounds like a darker version of the Doopliss theme from Paper Mario TTYD. Different enough to stand out for this game specifically, but similar to songs us gamers have heard before.
The way it was mixed for DS does not do it any favors.
@@kwizzeh Yes sadly, many Days of Ruin's themes are poorly mixed and that's too bad, the soundtrack is amazing and I'd love to listen to it with a good mix
The voices really make this theme memorable for me although the rest of it is a banger as well
Penny was the go-to! Other than Forsythe of course, love his theme too.
WHOS IDEA WAS TO PUT A CHILD INTO WAR???!!
Penny: *does some Werid ass stuff and wins many battles*
Me: never mind she can stay
It's stated in the game's cannon that the reason she's so weird is because she was subject to many experiments and modifications that can allow her to command an entire battlefield at once. This however left her mind shattered.
"WHO'S IDEA WAS IT TO PUT A CHILD INTO WAR?

I just imagined what if Penny can activate her CO power inside the Great Owl/Pulsatrix, bruh imagine raining on the left wing, blizzard on the right wing, and sandstorm inside the cockpit
OP
You do realise she is by far the most disturbing character ever in the series? Not only she suffered from many experiment which obliterated her mind and moral. But this is heavily reflected in her music, permanetly saying "What did you do?" Her theme is indeed, like you said, instable, but as also a tone of doubt i think, which represent that she might not be as insane as we think.
I hear the robotic voice saying "I love dying"
+Joshua Blake Even her CO power is an unpredictable and unestable weather change! so good character work
Thought it was "What have you done"
Joshua Blake Funny thing about your comment is that it unraveled a bit more of her character other than her insanity.
The Advance Wars series has always represented genius by using classical music elements (or in the case of Sonja, flat out classical music) or electronic elements (Lash's theme comes to mind).
Which would imply that Penny was a gifted child before the physical and psychological abuse/trauma suffered during her time as a lab rat. Though she has moments of clarity during which she'll blurt out super complex data (these signaled by the classical segment in the middle of the theme).
All this leads me to think that sometimes when commanding the armies she is completely sane but has no option but to play along and commit the atrocities she's being ordered to.
Haunted by guilt she questions "what did you do?". But even that voice has been corrupted to the point where it turned into background noise in her mind.
Jason Godwin I thought it was "reggae go raw"
"What did you do?"
"What did you do with me?"
"I'm trying to settle this civilly"
After intense listening at a slow & ear-bleeding pace AND reading the comments, I've concluded the lyrics are:
What have you done with me
I'm trying to settle this civilly
(Mind on fire)
*Fascinating*...
OMG, it makes too much sense!
Although even more disturbing than just "What did you do"
ok that is really disturbing
Sounds more like "I'm trying to settle this, silly," which is more along the lines of Penny's personality.
Lyrics:
What did you do? What did you do?
What did you do? What did you do?
What did you do? What did you do?
What-what-what did you do?
What did you do? No one else understands me.

What did you do? No one else understands me.
What did you do? No one else understands me.
(I love fighting!) (I love fighting!)
What did you do? No one else understands me.
(I love fighting!) (I love fighting!)
Never really paid much attention to this piece until recently... and I regret never listening to the full thing.
But those memories of getting destroyed to epic techno-classical music with a War Tank in Fear Experiment will forever stay with me. (Although last night I completely rekt that level by spamming tanks everywhere)
peefTube just buy the anti-tank once it becomes available to win.
One is more than enough.
The Idiotic Retards Remix & Gernald Do you not think I know that!? They state that in the level.
@@remixtheidiot5771 It's a fun level to try and beat without losing an units. Pretty easy if you spam tanks and artillery though. Then just surround the war tank (don't fire that turn otherwise it'll kill a tank). Then obliterate it with like 6 artillery.
It looks that she is trying to talk to someone. I can hear the robotic voice say things like "What did you (to me)?" and "I don't mind." every now on then. I really like her theme and the character is pretty scary too, but in a good way. She is not just a crazy monster like her father and her sister. She is scary because she is unstable. Also... When you finish the game... You realize that she wasn't bad.
Her, Tabitha, Isabelle, and Caulder are freakin' INSANE. When put into the right hands they sure are deadly (especially Caulder but he's banned so no worries lol). Luckily I love them all, especially this one and Tabitha.
Pretty much a darker, less stable Lash.

if i recall , and reading some comments here, i actually belive that those teddies are the ones calling the shots here, penny is the actuall toy.
I prefer the name in the EU version. "Cold Hearted Doll" just sounds so much more threatening than "Mr. Bear"
+24spencer I personally disagree, cold hearted doll just sounds so blunt in my opinion.
*****
It's kind of hard to explain, but I think a 'devil child' attitude is more insane than something as blunt as cold hearted doll.
Mr. Bear doesn't imply a devil child attitude, it implies lazy translation and bad cliches. :/
+24spencer That's like, your opinion.
Mr. Bear definitely can represent a devil child attitude, if you have ever watched any horrors, the children in those movies usually refer to their "playmates" as "mister" etc.
Also, it isn't "lazy translation", NA is the first one to get Days of Ruin, followed by EU, and then Japan 5 years later.
If anything, EU decided to change the name for some reason.
And for "bad" cliches, I would think "Cold Hearted Doll" is definitely blunt and straight to the point (there no denying that).
Often times, penny has referred to "Mr. Bear" and how they would like to play.
Welkin Gunther

Me.Bear says there is no one there!...He also hates you.
Waylon: Man I wish the start of my theme could be a little less... Shit.

I kinda wanna do jumping jacks while playing a violine and singing bizarre stuff
Plus Beethoven pianining in the Background, Cortez robbing people, Paganini rising from his grave, Ren and Stimpy singing Happy Happy Joy Joy and Kondo recording Songs
This is the most insane song I've ever heard and it drove me nuts
But I love it
Aaah, Days of Ruin. The only Advanced Wars game I ever owned, and probably the only one I ever will. Unless they make aonother just as dark, hopeless, and freaking entertaining as it, anyway. Everything else in the series just pales in comparrison IMO.
Also: Stormfont. One of the most understood OC powers in the game, but if nothing else the second most annoying. First place goes to Caulder's mass healing zone. *shivers* That was just painful...
Also Also: I want a Mr. Bear......
I laugh at your backwards opinion. Though it had an interesting post-apoc sort of feel (though kinda anime-ish, even more so than the rest of the series), Days of Ruin is the lackluster entry. The nations (and in turn, the CO's) did not seem all that different from one another in terms of strengths and weaknesses. This sort of homogenization of the different characters really cut some of the tactical aspect that is characteristic of the Advance Wars series.
The setting is cool and the music is pretty kick-ass. On the other hand, everything was purple and brown; and you'll never get to experience sending a Neo-Tank rush with Colin or swarming Small Tanks with Jess.
Seriously, if you've only seen the other games, never actually played them, you can find them at your local used media/game shop and purchase them for like 10 bucks a piece. They're more than worth it.
Source: I own 1, 2 and Days of Ruin.
whyisdiscostevetaken That's all very true. I wish they would make a new advance wars, just like the old ones, but including the anime-ish feeling Days of Ruin has (looks real nive) and features like being able to send your CO to the fight in one of your units.
I loved the game, but really missed all what you mentioned, the COs weren't that different. And, in the end, a game without Grit is no good game :(
whyisdiscostevetaken
Oh, I've played at least two others afterwards, borrowed them from a couple friends who were of the same oppinion as you and the gentleman who replied to your comment. Unfortunately, in my oppinion, then just weren't as good. I suppose its personal bias, as I was comparing them to DoR as thats the order I played them in, where as you guys compared DoR against your expereinces with the older titles, expecting and hoping for something similar.
I however, found that I didn't like the CO system of the older games. While, yes, it each CO in those games play differently, and made for some interesting changes in playstyle and tactics, I found that I personally didn't particuarly like it. Maybe it has something to do with the whole "CO affects every aspect of gameplay" thing. I don't know about you, but as a member of the armed forces I know that a change in CO wouldn't affect the way I fight. Yes, It may change my ship's possitioning and routes, but when it gets down to it the crew as a whole will operate in a combat situation the same way.
However, if I were to be running damage control after taking a hit and the CO himself or another high-ranking officer were to come down to help, actively engaging in the combat and keeping the ship afloat and whatnot, odds are that'd boost my Morale, making me work more effecively. Why? Because the CO deemed my job important enough to come down and make sure it got done. While this would probably never happen due to my whole being on a naval unit and all, try and apply the same thoughts to a squad of tanks or the like.
And I think that may be my major sticking point, DoR made the CO powers make more sense in my oppinion. Not to mention the story was much more... Gripping. Believable. Less reliant on the fact that this is fiction and we can do whatever the buck we want (Neo Tanks) and stuff. The only real downfall to this (again, IMO) was the fact unit variety suffered because they couldn't make the heroes fight a giant blob of greymatter and the like. But that's a minor complaint. It was still a great game, and will probably be my favoite AW game for a very long time.
Gingersnap
"but as a member of the armed forces I know that a change in CO wouldn't affect the way I fight"
You're in the navy. The only thing you'll be fighting is the long line at the local brothel on port days.

Penny... if only I could help you...
Penny wasn't always this terrifying, it was all because of Caulder that she turned out this way. Another commenter gave the idea that Penny might've been mentally gifted before the experimentation on her. I personally believe that she was pretty normal, probably just an bright, innocent child who was scarred mentally and brutally traumatized by Caulder's experiments. Wait, an innocent child who was abused in some way? Sounds familiar, but I don't know why... oh wait, n from pokemon black and white. However, while N was certainly neglected by Ghetsis by a huge remainder of his life, leading him to not really grow and develop mentally, he didn't exactly go through the trauma that Penny did. I just... _I just wanna give her a hug and some love, maybe even some therapy..._
"Maybe some therapy" first youd have to find a therapist in post apocaliptic world, 2nd since the 3rd Sister was unnacounted for, and is by far the most dangerous even if not incapable of change, shed probably not be prioritised for Therapy

Pretty sure she actually ignores the weather as well.
Maybe I'm late, but Penny is really depend on her CO Power... Her CO Zone isn't give any Troops adding Attack and Defense Power. But her CO Power on the other hand, if use wisely, can give the upper hand against any opponent. But again, her CO Power is kinda like gambling...
Stormfront will randomly change the weather into 1 of the 3 :
1. Rain storm : Lower Visibility for all for 3 turn. In turn 1, Penny's squad still can see clearly, but for the other 2 turn, she is hit by this power too...
2. Ice storm : All movement -1, really hit slow movement units... last for 3 turn
3. Sand Storm : I think, from all the 3, Sand Storm is the one that really special from Penny's Stormfront. All enemies Unit will have 30% damage reduction when this skill active... Even Tabitha in Wartank cannot hit the same anymore if Sand Storm struck her...
