We're up at about 12,000 feet here on the Schilthorn Mountain in Switzerland at the back of Lauterbrunnen Valley, one of the world's great spots.. They have snow all year round on the glacier. You can sit indoors in perfect comfort and have a meal or just a snack, do a little shopping in the gift shop. A large outdoor terrace provides an excellent vantage to look back across the valley at the three great peaks, the Jungfrau, Mönch and Eiger, whose complete forms can be seen better from this distance than close-up. Then cap it off with a drink in the Crystal Lounge and imagine watching James Bond in the frantic chase scene from On Her Majesty's Secret Service, filmed here in 1969. On a clear day like this, you've got the sunny highlights and the dramatic clouds in the background, beautiful peaks and valleys all covered in snow. The view from the Schilthorn is just as spectacular as the view from the Jungfrau, but different in its own way, with that amazing panorama of peaks all around. While the Jungfrau observation deck is about 2,000 feet higher, with that endless glacier, both mountains are covered with snow all year round and give spectacular views of mountains, glaciers and valleys. On a sunny summer day the temperatures hover around freezing but usually feel quite comfortable when you are properly dressed. The view from the Schilthorn is just as spectacular as the view from the Jungfrau, but different in its own way, with that amazing panorama of peaks all around. While the Jungfrau observation deck is about 2,000 feet higher, with that endless glacier, both mountains are covered with snow all year round and give spectacular views of mountains, glaciers and valleys. You change cable cars in the villages of Murren and Gimmelwald along the way, gaining different perspectives on the mountains as you travel. Or, you could take your time on this route with a beautiful half-hour stroll from Murren down to Gimmelwald and catch the cable car down from there, one of the best easy hikes ever.

I have truly fallen in love with this beautiful country - Switzerland - since I first came here a couple of years ago. The country is so wonderful boasting nice people, picturesque landscape, gorgeous sights and uniquely fresh and clean environment.!!!
this is just fantastic , I Was there in 2006, the food is delicious and Interlaken is an amazing city. thanks for making me remember such a beautiful place.

I have been visiting Switzerland at least twice a year since 2002 and have traveled across several times and everytime I find something new and awesome. I have now many friends over there and feel at ease.
The infrastructure is perhaps the best in the world.. be it train, bus or boat.

Nice little travelogues of my favorite section of Switzerland. My one comment is that on this and another video of the area the camera is lingering on the Eiger, yet the narration is talking about the Jungfrau. Enjoying seeing these wonderful views again. Thanks for posting.

How long did it take you? i am having hard time est. time from interlaken to schilthorn
drive from interlaken to schilthorn station around 20-30 mins then take cable car up something around 30-40
time will pass by like nothing when going up
its fun, enjoy it its hella fun
We take the train from Interlaken Ost to Lauterbrunnen, then funicular up the hill to Grutschalp, then take the upper train to Murren, and then several cablecars up to the Shilthorn peak. That takes about 3 hours, with walks and connections. On the way down, cablecar to Murren, then walk to Gimmelwald on beautiful path with amazing views, then cablecar down to the bus for ride back to Lauterbrunnen (stop at Trummelbach Falls and go up), then train to Interlaken. It's a lot, but makes a great day of your life.

I don't understand how this guy has less than 100k subscriber ,been making good and informative videos for about 15 years. Not fair.
Even better to do: walk up to the top of the Schithorn from Mürren. I've done it two times on two differen hollydays , 2 different routes. Relax at the top and get the cable car down to the valley.

i had one query... can you provide information on if we are having swiss pass what all other tickets we need to buy and from where for the journeys you have recorded in these vides?
Nearly all the cable car trips to the mountains, and some rack rail, require ticket purchase, which are not free, but discounted if you have the Swiss Pass.

I was there April 2015. There was snow everywhere though the temperature wasn't too bad. The
cable car was pricey. Any questions just leave a message.

one hundred bucks r/t, or if you have a eurail pass, 80 bucks. Not cheap, but typical of what you pay e.g. Gornergratt in Zermatt, ditto
Dennis, have you our any of your fellow travelers ever have any health problems because of the high altitude?
Amazingly, we never have altitude problems even at 12,000 feet. Turns out the residual oxygen from lower elevation you just came from remains in your blood for several hours. Just don't stand up quickly or run up stairs at the top.

Good stuff Dennis! Confused about... at the 12:45 mark. Do the walks you mention take you all the way to Stechelberg? Will we have enough time to hit the Falls? or do you still have to take the CC down to SB?
You could walk down from Gimmelwad to Stechelberg, on a steep trail that would take 90-120 minutes. Instead, we did the easy, perfect walk from Murren to Gimmelwald, as you see in the video, highly recommended, then rode the cable car down from Gimmelwald to Stechelberg, a quick ride. We barely had time to take the bus and get into Trummelbach Falls with that routing (we were the last ones inside), so if you walk down from Gimmelwald you probably run out of time to get into Trummelbach.

Manolo Gonzalez You can purchase a single ticket at the Interlaken train station that will get you all the way up and down. For details go to the SBB Swiss rail web site. There are many different prices depending on whether you have a rail pass or not. You could also take the public bus to the Schiltohorn lift then buy your cablecar ticket there.

I swear I'm in love with mürren. Is there a more beautiful view? Not valley walls or foothills. Real mountains. I don't know about schilthorn. But us scardicats can take the funicular to the smaller mountain. Also fantastic.
Mürren is perfect, especially from those restaurants with a view! Then go up top for a bigger view.

You could do it in half a day if you start very early, best to begin on first train at 6am from Interlaken, or 6:20am from Lauterbrunnen which puts you on top of Shilthorn at 8am.

@@sandipg9388 It should be OK, just take it easy, walk slowly, don't stand up suddenly, and if feeling light-headed, sit and lower your head between your knees. The first few hours at altitude are easier because your blood is already saturated with normal oxygen levels. Very few people have a problem there.
I live in Mürren and thr fact about thr fire departemept is actuslly wrong... everybody that is over 18 has to serve in the fire departement
I will be staying in Luzern in July , I want to go to the Schilthorn, would it be possible?
It is possible if you get a very early train out of Luzern, like 6am if possible. It will be a very long day, but you can do it. However no way to do both the Shilthorn and the Jungfrau in one day -- pick one or the other.

That's great to know you did it! Congrats! It is a busy day from Luzern but one you will never forget. I'm glad visibility worked out for you (sometimes it's cloudy and obscured). One time we went up and the valley bottom was socked in with heavy clouds, but we got to the top and were above the clouds with great views.

it depends on personal taste: if you want only mountains, Interlaken and Zermatt, but if you like towns also, Lucerne with day-trip to Zurich, then Interlaken.
Nice video. Cool that you mentioned paragliding, except I suspect you unnecessarily scared people off by referring to it as "jumping off a mountain". You don't jump off anything, you get gently lifted UP. And it's not a parachute, it's a wing (it flies very much like a sailplane or a large soaring bird). Sorry to pontificate like this but it was in Interlaken that I had my first flight so the subject makes me feel warm and fuzzy :-)
Thanks for the clarification. I haven't tried it yet, but my wife flew tandem in Zermatt and loved it, a highlight of her life, so maybe I should try next time :)
denniscallan Yes, you probably noticed it's actually a bit harder to find a bicycle rental place in Interlaken than a tandem paragliding ticket booth! Haha. And I forgot to add that I really liked your recommendation not to drive but to take trains, that's what I always do. Just purchase the right discount pass for your needs.
