@denniscallan- I've been watching your videos for nearly 8 years now...and I appreciate them just as much now as I did when I first came across your channel. Love your depth of knowledge and commitment to great commentary. Thank you!
This is the best and most informative travelogue I’ve ever seen. Thanks Dennis. I’m making notes and planning my trip according to your excellent suggestions.
Great video! In 2009 I spent a few days in Interlaken, spending a day on the Jungfrau trip and the next day Murren and the Shilthorn. I'd love to go back and see what I missed (Gimmelwald, Trummelbach Falls, etc). Thanks, Dennis, for bringing back some great memories.
This is a wonderful video, and a great itinerary for visiting the area. I really enjoy your videos, as you are such an authoritative guide on travelling well in so many areas of the world. Your Banff video helped me plan a trip to the Canadian Rockies a few years ago, and I think this video will help me plan this summer's trip to central Europe. I really like the "multi-view" scenes presented here in the video, as it helped me see a lot at once, and glimpse the same scene from different perspectives simultaneously. Again, really great work on this video. Thanks so much! You are awesome.
Thank you Dennis! Your videos are extremely helpful and beautiful! I'm planning my trip to Switzerland and all the information you provide with the awesome visuals help A LOT! Gracias!
I think you might be the first to cover the most important travel advice for Switzerland: Sticking your head out the window during train rides! :-) Seriously though, I think one of the biggest mistakes one could make when travelling around Switzerland is to just view trains as a (pricey) means of transportation to get you from point A to B. There's so many beautiful vistas to be enjoyed, and some of the routes are literally breathtaking. As seen in your video, Interlaken East to Lauterbrunnen is one, the Gotthard Panorama Express route to the Ticino is another one.
Sometimes the first-class windows don't go down but second-class do, so you might need to walk around to find those sliders. Be sure to put it back up in tunnels though, and if its cold, or any time, older locals don't appreciate it. If you must shoot through closed window be sure to minimize glare. Sometimes I tape a black cloth to window to block glare and drape it behind the camera, if I'm not blocking any passengers.
Great videos. I like to know as much as I can before I travel to new places, so your videos really help. My wife likes to be surprised. This way, I can at least be a tour guide for her :)
Very good video. The narrative is simple and easy to understand..very informative. Thanks denniscallan. I would suggest instead of spending the night in a city, spend few nights in Gimmewald or Murren. That would be more fun.
Nice video. Not sure Im keen on the multi screen views as I feel its distracting, but in the main gives a brilliant visual description of this tiny but incredible country. Thank you for providing this very good video.
Hi James, glad you like it and thanks for the feedback on multiscreens -- kind of an experiment this time, curious to know how viewers handle it...a way to pack in more information and keep your eyeballs moving. If I ran all the images as single screen the movie would be more than twice as long, doubtful if viewers would see to the end. I might incorporate some multi in the future but on more limited basis, just for snatches here and there, we'll see...Anyway this movie was a major project, with 1,000 elements, took me nearly 2 months to assemble...it takes that much to fully explain a Big Day at the Shilthorn and Lauterbrunnen Valley.
Hi Dennis. The pleasure was all mine. I can understand that when producing such excellent videos, there are going to be in built challenges for production. Nevertheless, the message came over loud and clear., This is a beautiful country and your enthusiasm comes over in leaps and bounds. Keep up the good work.👍🏻🇬🇧❤🇨🇭👏🏻
James Alexander Agreed, the multi screen obsession became irritating as one was always anticipating when the beautiful full screen shots were about to be blown apart into five conflicting sources of visual information.Nothing wrong with experiments however.
woow! i'm really amazed with the quality of your video guide, and all suggestions, alternatives and details (never seen before a youtube traveling channel at this level! ) and it's extremely helpful for me and my friends as we are managing to spend one day in lauterbrunen area next Avril, and as many rides to other mountains will be closed due to the low season or are just not covered by the swiss travel pass , your itinerary is perfect for us, thank u!!
Great video. Easy to watch and good narrating providing useful information. I will be visiting Switzerland for 16 days in early September. Will be spending only 3 days in Grindelwald , Lauterbrunnen and Murren. Plan to do the Murren - Gimmelwald via ferrata, Plan to hike to Birg , maybe Schilthorn and in Grindelwald , hike from First to Bachalpsee and maybe Faulhorn. I had no problem with the multi screen views. I actually like it because it gives the viewer a better perspective. Will be watching your other videos on Switzerland. Keep it up !
Thanks for that comment, I really appreciate it. Your trip sounds well-planned and filled with fun walks, great timing in early September, should be perfect weather and clear trails.
Thanks for the reply. My entire trip starts from Geneva - Montreux - Bern - Kandersteg- Bettmeralp - Lauterbrunnen - Grindelwald - Brienz- Luzern - Zurich - Locarno. It's going to be epic ! I have left out Jungfrau as i've been up there a long time ago back in Dec 2002. I really do hope for good weather because everything i have planned is in the outdoors and the mountains.
Before you go to Piz Gloria Shilthorn you might watch the James Bond movie "On Her Majesty's Secret Service." Aside from Piz Gloria itself and the restaurant the towns of Murren and Lauterbrunnen were used in several scenes. The cable car terminal in Lauterbrunnen and the falls above it were used in several shots. On the cable car look down on the patches of snow for the brown dots, they are Alpine Chamois or mountain goats. Murren is considered by some to be the birthplace of snow skiing. Thanks for the film! It's one of the most beautiful places we visited in Switzerland!
Hey Dennis, thanks for the very informative video. A group of us are planning to stay in lauterbrunnen during early April this year. Is it possible to visit both Schilthorn (with a one-way hike from Birg to Schilthorn) and Jungfraujoch in one day? Would appreciate your advice on it :)
Is there a website that we would purchase the tickets for the trip. We are going next September and this is a great idea. Some comments about Switzerland say transportation tickets are very expensive. Approximately how much would this cost round trip. Thank you
Thank you so much for all the tips.. i love ur videos!! I have a question.. from Schilthorn to Gimmelwald by foot and then I need to go on a cable car to get to Murren?
Take cable car from Shilthorn down to Murren (way too far for most to walk), then enjoy the delightful, easy stroll from Murren to Gimmelwald, then cable car from Gimmelwald to valley bottom.
so basically you are making it longer, because from schilthorn to Murren and then to lauterbrunnen is direct, but to gimmelwald you go schilthorn to Murren and then further south to gimmelwald and then u go back to murren or to lauterbrunnen. correct?
It's a bit longer to walk, rather than ride, from Murren to Gimmelwald, but only takes about 30 minutes extra compared to cable car. That's the only difference.
I'm sorry i wasn't clear. what I meant is that without the stroll, one would go directly from schilthorn->Murren->lauterbrunnen. with the stroll, you go further south to gimmelwad so its schilthron->murren->gimmelwald->muerren->lauterbrunnen. correct? (we are staying in lauterbrunnen)
Going up, from Lauterbrunnen, you can take the cableway to Grütschalp. Then change to the narrow gauge train to Mürren. Or you can take the bus from Lauterbrunnen to Stechelberg, you can take the cableway up to Mürren, with a change in Gimmelwald. Coming down, the same in reverse. Choose one route each way for the complete circle. Watch my video again, it is very clear.
Planning a trip to Switzerland....I've gathered that there are many opinions regarding where to base yourself in the Jungfrau Region. Many believe Lauterbrunnen or Wengen are the preferred places. Some even favor Murren or Grindelwald. So many express a distain for Interlaken. Can I ask why you chose Interlaken for your group?
Interlaken has the advantage of the many train connections. So if you just stay during your trip at one hotel and want to make long day trips to eg Geneva or somewhat shorter to Luzern or you want to go to Kandersteg for a walk then that is possible to do when you are staying in Interlaken. Personally I would book a hotel in Lauterbrunnen or Murren, stay there for a few nights and go on further to explore the country.
Hi, do you have any recommendations besides this, thank you. I will be Switzerland 7 days, 3 days in Interlaken, 2 days in Zermatt and 2 nights in Zurich.
@denniscallan- I've been watching your videos for nearly 8 years now...and I appreciate them just as much now as I did when I first came across your channel. Love your depth of knowledge and commitment to great commentary. Thank you!
Stayed in Lauterbrunnen in May and walked from Grutschalp to Gimmelwald and then down to Stechelberg. Great day!!
Absolutely brilliant , just shows what can be done in a day.
This is the best and most informative travelogue I’ve ever seen. Thanks Dennis. I’m making notes and planning my trip according to your excellent suggestions.
what amazing scenery and that waterfall is just stunning...
von Lauterbrunner nach Muerren schon durch gewandert. Sehr schoen.
will back to here someday
You should get some award from Swiss Tourism Department. Excellent videos.

Very glad to hear the videos are helpful -- that's why I am making them. A clever traveler can squeeze a lot into 3 days, good luck.

Great video, very illustrative👍🏻
Would you recommend to visit this place in month of june?
June is excellent, and late May is even better (slightly less crowded)

Yes, you could do it based in Lauterbrunnen, but get an early start.
Is there a website that we would purchase the tickets for the trip. We are going next September and this is a great idea. Some comments about Switzerland say transportation tickets are very expensive.

Murren is brilliant to look across the valley to the 3 mountains. A quiet little village after the tourists have left at the end of the day
Hi i will be going in this December, will be in interlaken for 3 days. Can i visit this places during December ?Thanks
Sure, but bundle up. No hiking during that time, snow covers the trails.

@@chanchoiyong2242 I have lots of information about those places on my website townsofeurope.com/Switzerland/Switzerland.html
@@denniscallan Hi, thanks you so much! It will definitely help me.
which month is this?
May
Is this all in 1 day?
Sure, can be easily done with an early strat and late finish. We were among the first up Schilthorn, and the last to leave Trummelbach Falls.

Did all the above.. Over populated with tourists.
