Early 90's Phillies what a bunch of fun teams. I remember watching this Letterman episode and I cant believe how long ago it was now. Thanks for putting this on youtube.

1:30 After the silly Mets let him go, Lenny prepared himself medically, mentally. Freudian slip?

More like Jack & Coke to 'roids & coke. (That lower case "c" is the _real_ clincher lol)

The man has a dip in on Letterman. A fucking Baseball legend.

Perfect example of the epitome of a ball player. Gave it everything, knows the game but knew 100x more about baseball than life. What a lost soul. Great ball player though. He had skills of course but wasn't the most gifted. However, from a baseball perspective, I'd take 9 Lenny Dykstras over 9 Machados. He played hard and played to win.

1:29, "prepare myself medically". You sure did, Lenny, by taking steroids.

4:33 Letterman: ....and what about people saying the ball is juiced again, with far more runs and home runs, and averages being up. You notice any difference?
Dykstra: No not at all. Only thing juiced up is the player's body, Dave...and I'm Exhibit A

It.literally made no sense for the Mets to trade him Mookie was in his mid 30s and Lenny was the guy to take over full time. They traded him for Juan Samuel who was a 2nd baseman and they tried to convert him to CF. That lasted only a half year as Samuel was traded to Dodgers. What a disaster trade for the Mets.
