Lenny totally was about the show which used to drive Davey Johnson nuts. For example he would purposely get a late jump on line drives hit at him then wind up having to dive full out to catch it - and of course got a big cheer for doing so. He was clutch and really fun to watch.
Lenny was so right about 1988. If Davey did his job and put Myers in to close Game 4, Mets go up 3-1 and there is NO WAY IN HELL the Dodgers come back from that. There would never have been a "Gimpy Gibson" moment. It would have been the METS winning the World Series in 1988.
He had a great September but was not a match for that squad's personality. Lenny never should have been traded and should have been made a full-time player. The Phillies actually offered Lenny back to the Mets in the off-season after the 89 season had concluded too! Wild, right?
Lenny should've never been traded, period!!! Davey didn't like Lenny but he should've put personal feelings aside. I was at game 4 in '88 against the Dodgers & couldn't believe Myers wasn't in for the 9th. That memory still bothers me.
dead on what he said about game four against the dodgers. golden should have never have came out for the ninth inning. johnson need to bringing in myers.
I was there (Game 4 NLCS) that Night and Nail's is 100% Correct, Doc was Out of Gas (or maybe Coke?), because, before the Home Run, Doc Walked John Shelby on Four Pitches, Shelby Batted .167 that Series 4 for 30, Davy Johnson Blow it!. :-(
Mets should of won game 4. Randy should of pitched the 9th... but let's be real in extra innings especially the 12th they couldn't even get a hit or a sac fly. That and game 7 of 06 was the 2 most heartbreaking games for me as a met fan 99 00 was great and 15 was too but honestly 88 and 06 they had the best team in baseball. Now we have Degrom but... we have injuries every night
I agree....the guy is a total ..'Don't live my life style disgrace' but they love the guy ...I never understand watching baseball players and obsessing about them ....fk that
I don’t understand why Lenny is critical of Davey Johnson for platooning him-he still got 450-550 at bats a year. By Dekstra’s own admission “my body couldn’t hold up to a full 162 games” to justify his steroid use.
@Kyle Nickelberry His best power season was 600+ PA with 16hrs, 83rbis, and again that was his best. . I would consider that "not much pop". No matter what position he was designated at.
@Kyle Nickelberry Did you not read my original comment? I said he was a good contact hitter. Contact hitter generally means batting average. Not much pop generally means power numbers.
@Kyle Nickelberry If you think he had pop then you must think Ripkin and Sandberg were massive power hitters then because their AB per HR stat was nearly twice as good as Jefferies.
Quest Tech Jefferies could hit but it also takes hard work. Tony Gwynn was obsessed with hitting studies film and know pitchers tendencies. Not living up expectations doesn't mean he wasn't good. Jefferies was seen as cocky and not well liked and that's where the shots come in.
Greg Bagby I remember Greg Jeffries coming up in 1988 to the Mets from Tidewater Tides. So many of my teammates were like Greg Jeffries in Little League. I love both players but they're both crazy. 🤣🤣🤣
@@richard7831 Jefferies looked incredible when he came up in 1987. He looked like Don Mattingly at the plate. After that, he never looked the same. Psychologically not built for MLB. Built to be a coach, like he is now.
Davey was A Stoli Vodka boozer as Mets Mgr. Do Your homework I worked Mets Parking Lot at shea. std. those yrs. Lenny was Right Davey should have pitched RANDY MYERS instead left a worn out Cocaine using Gooden in to get Beat
Myers was not ready in game 4 in 1988. He did not start warming up until after Gooden gave up the home run to Scocia. The game is on UA-cam. Lenny is lying
A "Bum" ! And the '86 Mets? The Red Sox handed it to them. The Mets had one of the greatest starting rotations ever. Gooden, Darling, Sid Fernandez, Ojeda and win 1 WS. The Mets arrived as losers in '62 and are still losers in 2020/2021. They never should have canned Willie Randolph. Two World Series banners in 59 years. What a joke.
Lenny totally was about the show which used to drive Davey Johnson nuts. For example he would purposely get a late jump on line drives hit at him then wind up having to dive full out to catch it - and of course got a big cheer for doing so. He was clutch and really fun to watch.
86 Mets & 93 Phillies were very exciting teams to watch. Nails was my favorite player to watch.
"Can't wait to be here - Oh, wait. I am here"
Always enjoyed watching Dykstra play.
Lenny looks rough, but man he was fun to watch play and would come up huge in big games.
"He's allergic to leather"
LMFAO!!! 😂😂😂
Glad he was with the Phillies. Made things exciting.
His playoff numbers were unreal!

Maybe I'm a Met fan,but Oakland was no slouch
@@sosuapimp8449 The A's pretty much rolled over for the Dodgers in the WS so I doubt the Mets would lose to them.
@@LEETCH_2 Pete, are you guys gonna play baseball this year?
Why did Davey neglect to do that?
Orel Hershiser ⚾ that was the difference! He was unhittable that season 1988
Man, that guy was fun to watch. What a gamer.
Great Book! Loved it...
My 2 all-time favorite NY Mets were Dykstra and Rusty Staub!
Lenny was a beast
Sorry I loved Greg Jefferies. Granted I didn't have to share the clubhouse, but the dude was the whipping boy for all these guys.
He had a great September but was not a match for that squad's personality. Lenny never should have been traded and should have been made a full-time player. The Phillies actually offered Lenny back to the Mets in the off-season after the 89 season had concluded too! Wild, right?

It would have bothered me too. I have that Randy Myers card since I was 5. The faces he makes is intimidating.
With all due respect to Mr. Met, it would be cool if they rented out Dykstra for birthday parties, bar mitzvahs, etc.
I miss 90s mlb
dead on what he said about game four against the dodgers. golden should have never have came out for the ninth inning. johnson need to bringing in myers.
Dykstra and McDowell for Juan samuel, one of the worst trades in Mets history.
One of the best trades in Phillies history.
Jim fregosi for Nolan Ryan was pretty bad too
Seaver?
Dykstra and McDowell hated Gregg Jefferies and made his life a misery.Cashen dumped them both to The Phillies soon after.
beginning of the end....letting Kevin Mitchell go wasn't smart either
He was a big game performer

Lenny is right about game 4 of the 1988 nlcs. Mets should've won that game. And it turned into a 11 year jinx smh
I was at that game...
john Hein!! Love the guy!!
Surprised Lenny is not Managing or is a Bench Coach in the Major's some where? Lenny is pure Baseball ⚾ Baby! A Winner! Similar too Billy Martin? 🤔
Too much baggage and telling the truth. He knows baseball though!

That Dwight Golden game was the turning point in 88 but that dodger team had the baseball gods on there side that playoff
Honestly we should of won in 5 .. or 6
Nowadays, he looks more like Lech Walesa and a Polish sausage.
Sounds like he's getting home... but SPOT ON with the Mets critique !!

Nothing better than a liquid lunch to wash down the ol' early afternoon opiate treats for dessert.
Jefferies and Dykstra actually have very similar career stats. Look em’ up.
stats don't tell the whole story. The Dude's teams won when he played
@@JeffsYTFun So by that logic you’d rather have “nails” than Mike Trout.

What a wreck. Too many drugs.
I wouldve never traded dykstra. But trade Wilson

.342 for the Cardinals in 1993.

Jefferies not a good fit for NY and especially for those Mets.
Look at Jefferies overall stats though the guy just didn't strike out
