I remember in the 60's, 70's and 80's when the timber or lumber industry in Oregon was going big time. We had SP Southern Pacific on the Siskiyou line or branch. But only about 2/3 of it. It goes from Weed, CA to Eugene, OR. Then it went from Roseburg, OR to Eugene. We had trains of 100 cars going north (SP WEST) fully loaded 3 Engines up front and 3 or 4 maned boosters. Going south (SP EAST) empty 100 cars. These ran 3 or 4 times a day.
Nice footage, see some huge manifest, coal, empty and loaded and Intermodel when I get to go film on the Pulaski and Christiansburg Districts running to Roanoke VA East, Bluefield WVA and Bristol West bound!🛤🚂
That’s why I work locals for my company. I remember the days of hitting a hot box detector and having to walk 10,000 feet of train at 2:30 in the morning 😞😞
Got a town in Arkansas that past a ordnance. Saying no train can be no longer than 1.5 miles. Because a emergency vehicle couldn't get to it's destination when it needed to.
Congratulations on 16k Subscribers. Saw your videos for over a year but your Newer Format got me Hooked because these Details are Super Helpful. Thanks! 👍🙏
I really can’t believe I’ve got that many…. It took me two years to get to 400 subscribers and then a year and a half to get to 16,000! It’s still blows my mind.
I remember when Southern Railway trains was just 75 to 80 cars long and of course the freight cars was 60 feet long max and that was huge.Might not seem like a big number there but you measure the distance between the 2 freight cars the drawbars too that would be a mile long easy.
i live 500 ft from a NS main line.i have noticed some trains are getting very long.i also noticed more people trying to beat the trains as well.people arent willing to be 15 to 20 minutes late because of extra long slow moving trains.so look for grade crossing crashes to escalate dramatically.
Unfortunately we have Trains in St. Louis 13,000’ long which is really Ridiculous when they’re in Town moving much Slower Pace Blocking several RX Crossings. 👎
To me psr has to go won’t hurt to have two equal size trains going the same direction I know they do it for other reasons but still it’s dumb seem there are more derailments since psr started versus pre psr
The question is, "How long is too long". I thought there was a law (state or federal) that a train can only be so long or that it can only hold up highway traffic at a rail crossing for so long. Am I wrong?
They should at least be required to add a caboose with another conductor on a train that long.we know they wont because they are too cheap to hire another employee.Nice video.
My biggest train was 109 cars. 89 empty auto racks, 20 mix freight. The train length was over 11K was too long to hold any siding. Great video for 2 burners they we’re working hard.
@@ljreed8671 I’ve been thinking about doing a video on the length of sidings on a trains route. I was amazed the 19K only had 3 sidings it would actually fit the train on the trip from Elkhart to Decatur.
@@therailroadtiespiker They usually don’t build trains longer than sidings. But you’d definitely have to hold the main. I retired right before DPU came into the operation. I felt 2 2 1/2 miles of train was long enough. Population restricts train lengths in the east. On the St. Louis Sub at Mitchell we’d turn to go south for Louisville blocking the entire town.
Obviously the governmental body that regulates the railway industry has not learnt a thing from the Palestine derailment and others. The trains are too long and understaffed. When a train crosses a road crossing sometime people are stranded there for 20 minutes. You cannot number the amount of bad circumstances that these delays cause people in their daily lives. Some delays are life threatening. The trains should be regulated to be shorter in length
Yes you are correct I’ve seen every crossing block in Peru except the underpass so if an emergency vehicle needed to get through they sometimes have to drive several miles out of their way to go to the underpass.

That’s a great idea
Been watching your videos close to 2 years....your new videos with all of your great info added will keep me watching....Thanks..
Thank you Dave for watching and it’s great to know all the extra hours I put into the videos now are paying for and people are actually enjoying them.

Yes…. My grandpa was so upset when the railroad was going to pull a miles long train back in the early 80s.
Good Thursday evening Spike, another great video buddy.

Yes I’ve noticed more drivers blowing the crossing in the past couple years.
Good video, congratulations on 16k subscribers

Really enjoyed the video. Congratulations on reaching 16.000 subscribers
Thank you Rick…. I can’t believe I’ve got 16,000 I must be doing something right. Lol
Really cool video!👍👏
Thank you Tim for watching
cool
I think the jury’s still out on that, because the RRs are still increasing train size. At one time a 1 mile to 1.5 miles was considered a big train.
I remember my grandpa back in the early 80s saying he couldn’t believe they were running mile long trains with no caboose.

Yes I’ve see a few CSX trains in Marion Ohio that were pushing 15,000 feet just crazy

Blocking first responders is even more serious. If carriers eventually get only ENGR-crewed trains, length needs o be cut to say, '7600 ft
Nice catch. Congratulations on 16K subscribers ❤
Thank you for watching…. And yes I can’t believe I hit 16,000 subscribers last night

Yep that sounds about right. Thank you John for watching
It’s easier to just call someone out with a vehicle to assist the conductor if there’s a problem.
