This game is probably the best action combat I've had in a while from a non-soulslike. It's less buttonmashy than Wukong and has plenty of depth with the skill tree and combat tech. The biggest thing that stands out? Almost every level feels impactful and there is ALWAYS something cool around the corner to want next. The game is very well optimised with a very good combat. All classes feel awesome. I don’t care much of a hit and miss dialogue. Story is good enough, nothing special. They nailed the combat and that’s what makes the game fun for me.
Awesome showcase of the mage. I call mine the cryo volt sorceress because she melts enemies as an antivan crow spellblade focusing on ice and lightning. So fun!!

I recently discovered the Necro mage as being pretty damn fun. Don't have to worry about mana, or health really. Running the 2 necro spells, and Ice Blast - really solid and fun I think. What inspired me to run it - i found a unique neckless +20% all damage if at "low health" can only have 70% of max health - AND a unique ring that says every ability cast will always be a critical hit, each ability cast costs 20% of your health. I wanted to find a build that could hang with low health and this is what I can up with... running with warrior who auto taunts when my health is low and also puts out a healing dot on me.
Probably going spellblade for me. That being said, I would love to see tips for being a better Rogue and Warrior too. Since, considering we can respec our entire skill tree at any point(if we want), I'm pretty sure following playthroughs will use the other classes.
Wait this looks way better than all the other previews. They all showed the same mini mana bar with 1 spell to cast until waiting for it to slowly recharge. At least now you can use multiple mana spells in a row even if you can still only use a few at a time.

I'm digging my ice evoker mage. Just reached lvl 20 and haven't gotten the orb skill yet, but I can see where it's going. I freeze mobs, blast them with my charged staff, then I blow them up from weakened or sundered, and finish bits off with normal ranged attacks. Been pretty fun so far!
Thanks for the great tips and showcase! I’m only a couple hours in but can’t decide between spellblade and evoker. Orb and dagger just feel so good to play but I initially was drawn to the more ‘traditional’ ranged mage playstyle of evoker. Can already tell I’ll be doing multiple playthroughs just to try every class and specialisation 🥲😂
You can re-spec at any point completely freely. You can even remove and reassign skills one by one. No need to do multiple playthroughs. Try a few different things and see what you like
Been rocking the staff mage through all of Act I and it is great. I was worried I was going to have to play spell blade to enjoy mage, but that has not been the case. Also, the AOE nodes are bonkers.
at lvl 18 right now with chain lighting and tempest coupled with shock affliction that bounces arcs of lightning when at 3 stacks. i burn this with neve/bellara time slow ability allows 1 free cast and a 50 mana return when finished. also lucanis or harding has a support ability that buffs your attack and also returns 50 mana on use... because orb and dagger is faster it works really well with demolishing large groups of enemies because each hit on an enemy with 3 stacks of shock... bounces 2 arcs of lightning. i find myself only using primers and detonators against bosses as this combo does a considerable amount of damage, ( without unlocking the CD effect to time slow, your companions cannot use abilities during it... you are the only one not affected by the slow)
Yo. How does Defense work for Mages? I'm playing as a Rogue, who has a Parry. What do Mages have? I remember seeing a bubble, but how does it work? Do you need to time it? Does it consume Mana?
Not exactly. The death caller gives you the ability to quickly regenerate mana on demand. It is supposed to play together with some Crowd Control. You are supposed to Dump Mana as quickly as possible, CC enemies and regen mana with the Block+Light attack (Channel thoughts node +50Mp/s). What the charge attack does, is allows you to quickly destroy armor and barrier, since they take less damage from Necro spells. So the play style is: Dump as much damage as quickly as you can, find a safe spot or CC enemies and Refresh mana as quickly as you can). Compared to spellblade Blast upgrade, that one allows you to cast a spell, blow up the Arcane bomb and then immediately cast another spell to blow it up again, but does not help with mana regen. Where as the Death Caller allows you to spam spell constantly, but at the same time with a short delay between the spells since you have to also constantly regen mana manually. last but not least, the combination of Mortalitasi and Overdraw increases your total damage output by +50%. Since it increases your penetration of enemy resistances at the cost of HP.
I was going to go Rogue. But man this made me really think going mage. One thing I can say about this game that is a huge positive over previous DA games is the combat. 100x more fun than the old boring, slow rooted combat. It was almost a chore actually playing the combat. This has some many different styles.
I do miss having to build a party that matters though. I want to setup a tank, a support etc. But you will be tanking 85% of the time no matter what you do here, even as a mage. Its quite disappointing in that aspect.

I have a melee, all lighting skills. I use my two buddies just to cast "slow time". Because the first spell you cast is free. So, Storm is always free. I use a rune to reset the ability of my buddies. With the talents, Storm builds up shock and burn stacks. My weapon is a fire orb. +1 burn stack and +20% more dmg per stack. With 5 stacks, double the dmg. For the rings, i use the same versions. One for burn and the other shock. 20%more dmg vs shocked/burned enemies. Because i apply burn/shock at the same time. 40% more dmg. I dont use combo stuff. Its lackluster.
Not enjoying the mage class tbh. The warrior and rogue feel better imo. Since the enemies are always Aggro on you it feels better as a melee fighter even with the dagger and orb I’m just not feeling it.
Thanks, finally i have my answer to is beam good and yes its deal some pretty huge damage. Also a question with passives that ranged attack deal necrotic damage could we use other elemental staff like fire to have effect of both necrotic (barrier damage) and fire (armor damage) apply together ? if that possible could we also get with rune & other stuff I don't know if its possible but a bleeding damage (life damage) for mage ? or is it best to stack only necrotic damage ?
Which is the easiest mage build for early game? I want to stick to one build until I've collected a good amount of skill points and armour to experiment with
I wonder if a lightning/cold storm mage is possible with evoker. Using a staff and with projectile bonuses, it might be pretty nifty. I don't care for melee, so spellblade just isn't for me, which makes me sad because that's where all the lightning bonuses are.
Man I need one of these for Rogue, wanted to do a rogue duelist playthrough for my first run and I am having fun with it, but i feel like i am not using all the gameplay mechanics to good effect sometimes.
Fighting large groups of enemies is the easy part of the game - fighting bosses as a mage, welp, I did not get to do any light attacks XD just constant dodge dodge - DONT STEP THERE - dodge dodge - POKE - repeat There are 2 types of dragon age players 1. Those that liked the strategic approach to combat 2. Those that disliked strategic combat. Now there is no strategy - click buttons that light up. Hope the bosses aren't machines that need dodging constantly. Its really easy to fight groups even on harder difficulties. I found that bosses are the only issue. (as mage)
They say heavy attack looks like a forward/up arrow plus left click on your mouse but do they mean W as in moving forward? Or the actual up arrow? Neither do a heavy attack for me please help :(
Its weird, I love the game and the graphics seem to be overloaded when watching videos but it isnt when you are playing by yourself. But also Im frustrated by the combo system and how to generate those, not that it is been set bad by developers,it is more my personal thing cause Im too slow to press those buttons and forgetting wich combo generates what makes it even worse. Im really bad in this game, I dindnt expect that😂
Why does every game except guild wars suck at making necromancers? There is nothing interesting about beams or just using your health to cast some basic green skill. Hopefully someone makes a mod where you summon undead.
Haven't picked this up yet. I know Gamespot said there were issues with the lock on system as a Mage? Just wondering if anyone has that issue? I'm still deciding on what class I'm going with.
Your target reticle will just disappear while dodging sometimes. Which results in your camera facing away from the enemy you're in the middle of trying to not get punched by. It's really annoying, but I assume there's a trick to not have it happen.
I've found that just, having a lock-on system is the issue. It does exactly what it says. And when 6 elite enemies with generally aggressive attacks are rushing your face, you get bowled over because you were locked on to one. Game's not really designed for single target.
The dragon age: Origins babies are soaked in tears cause they gameplay is dated, and will never see the light of day again😢😢😢😂😂😂 if it’s so great get off the comments and go back and play it with some mods or something. Get the same ones who be making those Skyrim modes and be happy😮😂

Which is the easiest mage build for early game? I want to stick to one build until I've collected a good amount of skill points and armour to experiment with
Where did you get the lyrium Dagger?
I wonder if a lightning/cold storm mage is possible with evoker. Using a staff and with projectile bonuses, it might be pretty nifty. I don't care for melee, so spellblade just isn't for me, which makes me sad because that's where all the lightning bonuses are.
spellblade is geared towards lightning and evoker is for ice and frost
@@rohilnagar6991 I know that. I was just wondering if you could combine lightning and cold as an evoker.
Awesome
Man I need one of these for Rogue, wanted to do a rogue duelist playthrough for my first run and I am having fun with it, but i feel like i am not using all the gameplay mechanics to good effect sometimes.
Why shouldn't spells do headshot damage..?
I've so not been taking full advantage of my mage 😅😂
Detonation mage for the win
Can you spec in to more than one specialization tree?
what's the diminishing return if you skip every interaction?
Do warrior next!
Ngl, I came here for the tips but you should drop the sliders for your character
are you able to parry as a spellblade?
Yes
Fighting large groups of enemies is the easy part of the game - fighting bosses as a mage, welp, I did not get to do any light attacks XD just constant dodge dodge - DONT STEP THERE - dodge dodge - POKE - repeat
There are 2 types of dragon age players
1. Those that liked the strategic approach to combat
Neither do a heavy attack for me please help :(
The "forward/up arrow" symbol is LEFT SHIFT. I think also just long holding left mouse does a heavy attack as well.
Im really bad in this game, I dindnt expect that😂
All I wanted was a fire mage specced into dots. Oh well
This actually looks quite fun..I’ll give it go I think 👍
Why does every game except guild wars suck at making necromancers? There is nothing interesting about beams or just using your health to cast some basic green skill. Hopefully someone makes a mod where you summon undead.
The combat looks fun, but I think they sacrificed the story and dialogue for it.
How do you have so much maximum mana????
In some frames have like 6 nodes
passives + stuff add a lot.
Ugh I have been mainly a rouge and further in the story but you are really making me question if I should switch to my main play through to a mage
No worries, so far mage is the worst class since the player character is force-aggroed to all enemies so its better to just be a melee focus.
Haven't picked this up yet. I know Gamespot said there were issues with the lock on system as a Mage? Just wondering if anyone has that issue? I'm still deciding on what class I'm going with.
I have some hours into the game as a mage and I didn't notice any issues
Your target reticle will just disappear while dodging sometimes. Which results in your camera facing away from the enemy you're in the middle of trying to not get punched by. It's really annoying, but I assume there's a trick to not have it happen.
I've found that just, having a lock-on system is the issue. It does exactly what it says. And when 6 elite enemies with generally aggressive attacks are rushing your face, you get bowled over because you were locked on to one. Game's not really designed for single target.
It looks better than Dragon's Dogma 2
This game is sooo easy you can be what you want
I need a mod that gives me extra skill points asap 😂
wait how did you get the dagger? 😂
Heavy attack when you've got the orb equipped, default on PC is left click whilst holding shift.
I would choose dragon age over this. Have you even played it yet? This game is hot garbage.
@@chiemychiem7533 have you played this game?
@@chiemychiem7533 So you played Vailguard then right? If not, What in the world are you are talking about. Origin gameplay is dated garbage.
The average mindset of a dopamine addict
@@chiemychiem7533have u played it? I have. It's a better combat than Origins 😂
Yeah play BG 3 instead and be a better mage
Great content, man.
This game looks like it’s made for kids
I’d rather watch dark souls deaths than someone spam spells at full health and health potions
Wait im late why do we hate this game.
