I'm lucky enough to fly commercially quite a bit for work, but I will never understand how people are just not amazed at the concept of regular commercial flight. Every take off and every landing I remain in child-like awe after flying for over 40 years. This video was awesome. Thank you for sharing.

I fully agree with you. I never had the chance to fly much at all, so now in retirement I do it when I can. Unfortunately, I have back problems which mean I really need to fly business class, so the cost reduces the number of flights I can take. ( Not to mention CoViD of course ). But I go for a window seat when possible. The feel of the power being applied on takeoff thrills me every time. Couldn't have imagined it 100 years ago. Glad to have lived in a time when it became not just possible, but routine.

@Chowing Scovilles Same here. Been flying commercial for over 40 years, hundreds of flights -- and yet if you see me on a flight, you'd think that it was the first time I was on a plane. Take offs and landings are especially fun.

Yes, and in addition to that, your reply reminded me that flight itself happened during my late dad's lifetime! Although he passed away in 2012, he was born in 1925. We now think we've seen a lot in our lifetimes: I just imagine what he saw. Rather incredible, when one truly thinks about it all, and about what is often taken for granted these days. I'm not a pilot, but one son was an aeronautical engineering major (over my head, no pun intended!)

My husband flew B777 until his retirement in 2001. Thank you for showing me the beautiful sounds and sights he enjoyed for 37 years. I am thankful for the beautiful view he had before passing in 2018. He loved to fly and was very good at it. This warmed my heart, thank you!

That engine and the Greenland views are equally magnetic. Everything's amazing!
The only thing the engine lacks is a human size figure for scale :)

It is absolutely remarkable that we can fly between two very distant points on the globe in just a matter of hours, AND look down on Greenland in the process! How anyone can take that for granted is beyond me. Great video. Loved the takeoff and climb out too.

I once flew from Frankfurt to San Francisco on a Lufthansa flight. It was also an 11 hour flight, and flew over the southern coast of Greenland. The pilot announced that passengers on the left side of the aircraft (747 Combi Freighter) could see icebergs on the ocean. Most amazing thing I ever saw.

Alrighty! I’m so glad to have caught your latest posting on a day I had time to view it. This is your pal from Virginia, Guerry, and I have missed viewing and then making snide remarks about your show. You already mentioned that you were in the experimental stage of using your new camera. I wish I knew something offhand to tell you to help you correct the problem, but I only use my iPhone to make calls. But for what its worth, it appears to be a post-production problem, especially if the video looks good from your downloading it from your camera.
Whenever you fly into and out of Frankfurt, is your business in the city, or do you get to drive to some other city? Back when I frequently flew into Frankfurt, United Airlines used Terminal 1, which was being renovated at that time. I just remember that when my flight arrived, so did a lot of other aircraft from countries where they had different hygiene practices. The renovation amassed all of us “Other than EU” passengers together to pass through customs in an area where the ventilation did not operate very efficiently. When I finally made it to my baggage claim, I really felt like showering. From that date forward, I flew Delta to and from Frankfurt, because it used Terminal 2, which was much nicer. Anyway, I hope you were not confined to Frankfurt and were able to get out and visit some of the other places outside of the big city.
Indeed, the video of Greenland was very impressive. I would have enjoyed seeing more of it. I did have a flight that flew over Greenland once, but it was mostly overcast, and I was only able to view a small portion of the island. The view you gave us had me thinking of my Ranger School days, when the instructors used demolition to break up the lake ice for us to practice water confidence tests. Let’s just say that a cold shower really does not replicate my experience.
How was your flight, though? Did they keep you filled with meals and adequately lubricated with adult beverages? I know the airlines have really cut back on their services, but I hope it is not the case on an 11 hour flight.
Well, that is about all I can contribute by way of a comment. Thank-you for sharing. As always, I’m looking forward to viewing your next one.

Want to see wings flex? Find an airbase where they have B-52s or U-2s. Now those wings really flex as the aircraft lift off. And they are using engineering developed at least 70 years ago.

Do they line up two planes on the runway at a time there, too?? One at the end, and another about 1000 feet up. The last two times I’ve taken off out of a busy European airport, LHR and CDG, they did that. I was just wondering if that saves time for the plane in the back.
