    When you said, what can you record? The future? I spit my cereal out laughing so hard. I don’t know. Just struck me funny as hell. Thanks for the video and the good laugh.

    This was a super helpful comparison! As an example of what we’re trying to see at ultra high frame rates, it’s useful for capturing fractures across brittle surfaces during impact/bending so we understand material properties better for things like the glass on your phone screens :)

    I have the Chronos 1.4 and it still works great! I tried to overcrank the fps of a wet spinning tennis ball on my page. But the creativity of Macro Room is so inspiring! I would like to see what a future 4K version of the Chronos would be. 👍

      I saw your videos, they look so cool🤩I was also wondering when they’re going to release a 4k version of it, I’m sure it’s going to be insane!!

    What about the Sony RX100, you cant change lenses but, i think still a good option at a good price

    • @Kai_Cheng
      @Kai_Cheng  Рік тому

      It’s definitely an option as well, but I would say the RX100 is more for a casual shoot for its limitations.

    I am actually looking for a high-speed camera for laser dust velocimetry and Chronos attracted me..... but I am not pleased with those max 11 seconds of recording.
    From the datasheets, it results that Freefly with 2TB storage admits up to 35 mins of recording! But it has a lower max when FPS compared to Chronos.
    For Chronos it seems that it is possible to transfer files directly to a computer via the ethernet connection using NFS and SMB. I wonder if you experienced this option for Chronos operation?

    at $5,000? oh hell nah

    • @Kai_Cheng
      @Kai_Cheng  Рік тому

      The price is really subjective, it depends on what kind of value you’re creating with it. Back when I was working for a film studio, we use it to shoot for a $150k video ad. That’s a steal for us. But if you’re just thinking of shooting your cat running with the camera of course it would be overpriced.

    If we could make a mirror that could accurately shift position like a million times a second we could make a high speed camera made of dozens of low speed cameras, code it so that they each take a different frame and combine all of the footage into something with a ridiculous FPS.

    Owning VS renting is a somewhat difficult topic. If you are efficient and plan correctly, renting is often better, but if you are not and like to do videos spontaneously, owning the right equipment might free you creatively.

    With the Chronos 2.1 you can shoot using the end trigger (release the trigger after the moment has past) and there is a 3rd party battery that will last 1.5 hrs...

    Do you have a page people can go to to check out different highspeed cameras?
    I have a crappy JVC from 2009 that shoot 200fps at 640x480 and 500fps at 320x175 (so stupid).
    Is there anything that shoots at 720p around 200fps or even 400fps at 720?

    • @ZimCrusher
      @ZimCrusher 2 роки тому

      All the 'highspeed' cameras that pop up on a search are listed at 30fps. uuuhhh.... WTF?
      Just because they can shoot 4k at 30fps, that does not make them 'high speed'

    • @Kai_Cheng
      @Kai_Cheng  2 роки тому

      @@ZimCrusher hey! if you're only looking for 120fps or 240fps cameras, sony's mirrorless camera line is good enough what you need ;)

  • @jeremybutler2578

    Im looking for a cheaper alternative...affordable to everyone not just those who have thousands of dollars to spend. In today's world 5000 or 10000 for a camera for the regular joe is still rediculous...got any ideas on something in the 500-1000 dollars range?

    • @Kai_Cheng
      @Kai_Cheng  2 роки тому

      It depends if you need it for business or just hobby, the price is all relative. A 5000$ camera can be a cheap option if you make money with it every month. If it’s for hobby, I would suggest a Sony rx100 m6, it’s around 1200$. It can shoot up to 1000fps :)

    • @gregorypecaut7164

    • @Kai_Cheng
      @Kai_Cheng  Рік тому +1

      It depends on your needs, if you’re just shooting videos as a hobby it doesn’t really matter. But if you’re doing client work and charge $10k per videos, the image quality of an RX is not sufficient.

    • @gregorypecaut7164
      @gregorypecaut7164 Рік тому +1

      @@Kai_Cheng talking cheaper for personal use. Don't make a dime videoing a balloon popping, or a water drop splashing down. Most of us will never get 10k for a photo shoot. But slow mo is still fun.

    5k vs 100k is a big difference we all know that, but what companies dont know is that 5k for an average person is also like 100k so it doesnt help at all. im sure the average consumer doesnt make 5k a month, thats almost like 5 months of saving or more for some people and just to do one thing, funny enough. 5k for 1 single job of 1k frames that could only record up to 5 minute, thats a no brainer lol.

    • @Kai_Cheng
      @Kai_Cheng  Рік тому

      the camera was never meant for average consumers, it's more for small business owners like us. If we can get a 5k slow mo camera and charge clients $10k per video, of course we're getting it. For average consumers, an iphone with 240fps would be fun enough to play with :D
