Really hoping they address Scott's past in a season 2. It could give Envy, Kim, and Lisa some screen time and development. If they do that, it may make Scott and Ramona's relationship more believable than either of the other mediums.
The show is mid. For a number of reasons but the biggest reason is the fact that they completely gloss over Scott cheating and dating a 17yr old. LIKE COME ON.
I think Vox’s interpretation of this universe compared to that of the books is spot on! Future Scott becoming a fill in for Nega Scott makes perfect sense when you realize some of the biggest steps towards Scotts redemption in the books is non-existent in this timeline for example Lisa Miller doesn’t get so much as a name drop and when Kim is describing Scott’s past to Ramona her retelling of him “saving” her in highschool aligns more with Scott’s delusions than the truth which was Scott basically assaulted Kim’s boyfriend and stole her from him. For all we know Scott in this universe never experienced any of his canon events and just stayed immature defeated the league and won her that way
This whole show feels like an AU where scott was never forced to confront his own actions, which lead to him becoming Ramonas worst evil ex… And I. Am. Here. For. It. I love this show so much
It is kinda funny tbh... Scott never becomes one with his conscience. (Negascott) And never becomes a better person. Ramona fuses with her older self, realizing she's been a HORRIBLE person. So it's kinda... the comics, but flipped... but also: The same as the show... because older Scott is just... Scott without Negascott xD

This was made to flesh out all the other characters. Blame Netflix marketing thinking it was a good idea to advertise it that way.

On it's own, it's a great anime, but if you watch it after reading the comics, it's gonna enhance the story and turn a great anime into an awesome anime of pure awesomeness

The "new" Scott is just the Scott who got kidnapped up in the middle of a battle that would've begun the original story you see in the comics. It's not like they would've stuck to the comics page for page if it was the original timeline, anyway.
My idea for a potential 2nd season is Gideon hires scott to go on some sort of adventure, but then it gets revealed he was just getting him to achieve his full potential so he could steal it, since he saw how poerfull he can become. But then scott overcomes it with *THE POWER OF FRIENDSHIP*
I absolutely loved what they did. From Scott losing in episode one to the development of all the "Evil" ex's. So many side characters had time to shine and it ruins nothing from what was preestablished. All the nods back to the original story are so good and weren't just silly gags but made sense to the story. They could have just done a retelling which I think a lot of us were anticipating but what we got was new and interesting. I would love to see more but I'm so happy it was a self contained finished story. If we get a season 2 or not I am so happy I was here to see it.
I loved this show; fleshing out characters that we didn’t focus on as much in the comics; the animation, everybody coming back from the movie. I am SO relieved that Old Scott is not Comic Scott & that if we got a season 2 it’ll be all new territory.❤
I genuinely can’t imagine being upset that we got something entirely new from the franchise rather than just another retread of the same story, the bait and switch really did make for a pretty great unexpected surprise.

Ok but we never got an adaptation that was true to the books the movies we made along side the book and had Scott end up with knives in the first draft Scott himself didn’t have a as deep of an arc because most of it went to the exs a bunch of cool characters were cut out bro didn’t even use the power of love comic romona wasn’t saving Scott after one date not saying this doesn’t have value knives is done more justice and so are the exs but characters like envy Lisa Kim and nega Scott total get abandoned in this version I would of done this as a possible season 2/or at least kept the leads together for more of the story
I would love to see some OVA or Extra Episodes where the main cast just goes about their lives on some adventures post epilogue. Lucas & Gide... i mean Gordon Bro's Day Out When?!?!!?
This was amazing. I really appreciated getting to actuality talk thing out with some of the evil exes. In the movie, Todd Ingram was my 2nd place love to hate evil ex behind Gidion Graves for reflecting my most hated aspect of Scott Pilgrim. But here in SPTO, he really grew on me. I always felt like the Twins did a good job of reflecting some of Ramona's flaws after Todd reflected some of Scott's. And this anime really better contextualised the first 4 evil exes. I'd certainty be down for a Season 2 to see Gordon being half of an evil power couple. It'd really serve as a nice double whammy to be a dark mirror of Scott & Ramona that simultaneously takes advantage of Scott's & Ramona's ghosts of the past.
One thing that I saw as a "plothole" was anime Kim retelling of Scott saving her from Simon Lee and then moving out. They show us she remembers what Scott remembered in the comics, which was later revealed to be a combination of Gideon mind controlling him and his own stupidity. Simon Lee was a little nerdy guy and Scott never told Kim he had to move, she knew that from Lisa. So yeah, I'll take that as this being a whole other universe/timeliness where that actually happened.
I don't think it matters if he confronted his flaws or not, they got married and their relationship lasted for around 14 years. In real life, you don't just confront your flaws once and then have them magically go away forever. Scott and Ramona having their flaws come back like that down the line is more realistic than them just having a magical happy ending where their lives are entirely free of conflict.
I loved the fact that Scott called out the weird people that says facts about random TV shows. 😂 "Did you know that the same guy voiced Sonic in both shows?" 😂
Scott Pilgrim Into the Scottyverse could be an interesting sequel idea being in a game world and there being potentially cross dimensional. As the 8th evil ex being technically Old Scott, Scott could potential face alterative evil exes to get to Ramona. Old Scott having awakened somewhat godly powers, the world of Scott Pilgrim could be turned over again. Not needed though as I personally loved the ending. It had a bunch of twists, but anymore to this one and it could be dragged on for so long it becomes stale.
I'm sad there won't be an immediate sequel , but heck am I happy about this series ! Also it really is kicking my ass about my own music animated project !!

I do hope more people watch this video and get that whole "older scott is book scott" misconception, out of their heads. mainly because, like you pointed out, Brian Lee O'Malley explicitly stated otherwise. it's like when you have a little sibling and they keep telling you a fact about a video game YOU play that's just blatently false, it just gets tedious after a while. also my only nitpick is that I wish we got a more faithful adaptation FIRST, because while this retelling is amazing, it's more designed for hardcore fans who've read the books and seen the film. I feel like alot of the jokes and context will go over new peoples heads.
I just wish for once netflix would actually advertise ashow properly. You only have to trick your fans in the watching something when you think your show is absolute shit.
I’m glad everyone is getting introduced to Scott Pilgrim. That means it’ll be a great chance for them to read the comics or even play the video game❤. When the show first came out, I wasn’t happy about the baiting and switching of how they marketed the show, but I’m at least happy that everyone is getting to see the Scott Pilgrim universe😎. Woohoo 🥳
The whole canceling after one season is probably why they decided to remix the story in a new route rather than try to fit the entirety as it was into one season, probably having to cut certain details anyways.
Im writing a fan-fic season 2. To give a basic idea of what im aiming for, season 1 was focused mostly on love and the relationship between Scott and Ramona. My rendition of season 2 would focus more on the idea of war. (Playing on the phrase used allot in season 1 "All is fair in love and war") season 2 would be from the POV of Scott and Ramona's Son (Who I've named -Asher Lyric Pilgrim-) from an alternate timeline where they didn't run into as many troubles and heartaches as the others. But something happens that has their son traveling throughout timelines and realities to save them. (No spoilers lol) im hoping that once i complete it, it gains enough recognition to potentially become official and added to the show on Netflix.❤
When I watched the series I was stunned that they were going for a What If type story, but I also enjoyed it as it had Ramona giving most of the Exes closure and reconciling with them and the other characters being expanded upon and showing up more (I really liked Gideon and Julie's subplot). It felt like a Requel (a sequel and a retelling of the first instalment of a franchise (eg: Evil Dead 2(even though those retcons would be retconned in the Ash Vs Evil Dead series))) with Scott learning of the main story and him and Ramona doing what they did in the novels and the film, embracing and learning from their mistakes instead of running from them. This series reminded me also of another Netflix series that released this year: Captain Laserhawk, a series created by the guy who made the Netflix Castlevania series and Ubisoft and is based on their games(Far Cry, Assassins' Creed, Rayman, Splinter Cell, Beyond Good and Evil, Watch Dogs etc..) not only was it like an anime and felt like a video game but it also pulled off bait and switch twists really well. I really enjoyed both series and really hope they both get second seasons, they can do a lot with these stories and try so many things. I look forward to what comes next.
I understand people hate the bait and switch, but I will say getting a whole lot of Ramona in this alternative storyline is really fun and exciting! Plus this animation is so top Notch!!! I'm dying for more❤❤❤

They can maybe create a season 2 of the “Scott pilgrim takes off” based on the future just years prior into the future where everyone can meet they’re future selves or something and the story writers should determine how the show will go from there, and that can maybe be something reasonable for the audience to catch up on for a brand new release of the show’s next season because that can also be enough time for a development for the new season of the show’s series, am I right or wrong?
I'm inclined to believe Ramona's hair colour is naturally blonde, I think I clocked it in the background of one of the opening scenes where she dyes her hair. Even if it's not true, it works thematically for me because, as you've said, it's a new beginning for her. Something old and something new mixed together.
Watching the show really felt like they were talking through the other interpretations. Like how you're pointing out in this video. They touched on concepts that have already been woven. Fight someone ex's is already a weird concept but it's been shown. Since Ramona runs a way how bout we get her to confront those situations.
Bryan Lee O'Malley has already come out and said that he did everything he wanted to do in the anime, and has absolutely no plans to continue the story.

Best adaptation/Spinoff of the original story, why? the character development each and every ex got in the series was incredibly satisfying and they are not wasted like the comic and movie, best version of the characters, and they also work on Scott and Ramona in a good way

I agree that the show is better after reading the books or watching the movie. Coming as someone that has (as of now) consumed neither. I though that the show was really good, I enjoyed the characters and the polt, but I don tthink that it really left the same impact on me that it did to people already fans of the franchise. It wasnt somethin thta adressed the issues that I had, for me it was compleatly new. I plan on watching the movie and reading the books, but the show was enjoyable on its own. Wallace was def my fae character but the cast was over all pretty strong.

Fun fact for you to know. On Scott Pilgrims vs The World storyline, Gideon was the 7th Exes that represents the strongest. This is actually mean that he have the strongest firepower while in other hand the weakest individually. He can't even fight when the VR machine is shut down. Still if it wasn't for the plot, Gideon is the most dangerous. He can just trap you in VR while in RL shot you, kill you on the spot or just use tranquilizer dart if not for the League rule First it was his Lair which mean that Government can't really barge in as they please. Second he can force you through VR so it looks like nothing happened while you spacing out, there's dead body in front of you waiting for his servant to clean Some of the technology Gideon use might be because of the Twins. If the Twins are the Scientist, Gideon is the Sponsor and possibly the Twins making Gundam was funded by Gideon
I'd love to see the comics done entirely like the animated series just to have all the things that happened there be fleshed out the way they are in the comics. I love the movie but seeing it this way would also be amazing.
for me, the only flaw was Scott's sword missing. Yes, it's pointless, but it was the only flaw I could find, cause I loved this show ! It caught me by surprise, so I couldn't know what was going next, and I wasn't disappointed.

It was a great send up, and perfect that they didn't do a simple rehash of either the comics or the movie. Given how porous these productions often are, it was refreshing that the surprise twist was actually... a surprise... for everyone.

I can see, if s2 does ever happen, Julie and Gordon making all the characters we've met, put into a battle Royale. If you think about it, at some point everyone screwed with gordon/Julie. And if they didn't intentionally try to, with Julie personality, it would be like you shot her in the back, literally.
I’d be fine without a season 2, but having one would be nice because they really set up an amazing world to just- be in you know? But this is still probably gonna be one of my all time favorite shows going forward now

Season 2 won't be happening according to the creators. At least not with Netflix as they said it would just get cancelled as with most of their successful shows. If it does happen it will be with another studio.

I'm pretty sure this series was blessed with 50 different miracles just to exist, something I never thought was going to happen as a kid reading the comics. When the movie came out, it wasn't all that successful. However, it became a huge cult movie success, in the years after its release. This series has consistently beaten the odds, and as a fan of this series and this world, I really feel that characters outside of Scott and Ramona have plenty more stories to tell, in particular Envy and Wallace. This show is still a masterpiece as it is, however I'm cautiously optimistic, that we will get more eventually. At the very least another video game.
I haven’t read the comics or watched the movie but I’ll admit that Netflix really pulled the rug from underneath me with that first episode. So I just rolled with the punches and and the journey was worth it because the big finale was nothing short of spectacular.
I was amazed they got Will Forte to be in the anime, and that also Anna Kendrick got to do a line like Paul Rudd did in Endgame in regards to Chris Evans in the final episode. Lucas Lee is super handsome. I bet in season 2 it’ll be Scott giving closure to those he dated

Loved how you tied so many aspects of the franchise together. This show was a wonderful remix of all things Scott Pilgrim.

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off needs the second season premiere in 2024.
I'm sad there won't be an immediate sequel , but heck am I happy about this series !
Also it really is kicking my ass about my own music animated project !!
I was honestly pretty sure Old Wallace was trying to imply he was with Old Scott because OS thought he and Ramona had divorced, and that’s why OS was so uncomfortable talking about it
I do hope more people watch this video and get that whole "older scott is book scott" misconception, out of their heads. mainly because, like you pointed out, Brian Lee O'Malley explicitly stated otherwise. it's like when you have a little sibling and they keep telling you a fact about a video game YOU play that's just blatently false, it just gets tedious after a while.
also my only nitpick is that I wish we got a more faithful adaptation FIRST, because while this retelling is amazing, it's more designed for hardcore fans who've read the books and seen the film. I feel like alot of the jokes and context will go over new peoples heads.
I just wish for once netflix would actually advertise ashow properly. You only have to trick your fans in the watching something when you think your show is absolute shit.
I’m glad everyone is getting introduced to Scott Pilgrim. That means it’ll be a great chance for them to read the comics or even play the video game❤. When the show first came out, I wasn’t happy about the baiting and switching of how they marketed the show, but I’m at least happy that everyone is getting to see the Scott Pilgrim universe😎. Woohoo 🥳

The whole canceling after one season is probably why they decided to remix the story in a new route rather than try to fit the entirety as it was into one season, probably having to cut certain details anyways.
Im writing a fan-fic season 2.
To give a basic idea of what im aiming for, season 1 was focused mostly on love and the relationship between Scott and Ramona. My rendition of season 2 would focus more on the idea of war. (Playing on the phrase used allot in season 1 "All is fair in love and war") season 2 would be from the POV of Scott and Ramona's Son (Who I've named -Asher Lyric Pilgrim-) from an alternate timeline where they didn't run into as many troubles and heartaches as the others.
But something happens that has their son traveling throughout timelines and realities to save them. (No spoilers lol) im hoping that once i complete it, it gains enough recognition to potentially become official and added to the show on Netflix.❤

When I watched the series I was stunned that they were going for a What If type story, but I also enjoyed it as it had Ramona giving most of the Exes closure and reconciling with them and the other characters being expanded upon and showing up more (I really liked Gideon and Julie's subplot). It felt like a Requel (a sequel and a retelling of the first instalment of a franchise (eg: Evil Dead 2(even though those retcons would be retconned in the Ash Vs Evil Dead series))) with Scott learning of the main story and him and Ramona doing what they did in the novels and the film, embracing and learning from their mistakes instead of running from them.
This series reminded me also of another Netflix series that released this year: Captain Laserhawk, a series created by the guy who made the Netflix Castlevania series and Ubisoft and is based on their games(Far Cry, Assassins' Creed, Rayman, Splinter Cell, Beyond Good and Evil, Watch Dogs etc..) not only was it like an anime and felt like a video game but it also pulled off bait and switch twists really well.
I really enjoyed both series and really hope they both get second seasons, they can do a lot with these stories and try so many things. I look forward to what comes next.
I loved the series and I never watched the live action or anything else, it was something I’d never seen before and I really enjoyed it.

I understand people hate the bait and switch, but I will say getting a whole lot of Ramona in this alternative storyline is really fun and exciting! Plus this animation is so top Notch!!! I'm dying for more❤❤❤

This version of Wallace is definitely better but a little wicked for what he did to the vegan boyfriend was a total Romano move like what she did to Roxie he was just discovering himself ,he’s definitely better than the movie version that version was like a comedic stereotype of a gay person
I love that Wallace's unexplained power to turn straight men gay was used as payback at Envy for breaking Scott's heart

They can maybe create a season 2 of the “Scott pilgrim takes off” based on the future just years prior into the future where everyone can meet they’re future selves or something and the story writers should determine how the show will go from there, and that can maybe be something reasonable for the audience to catch up on for a brand new release of the show’s next season because that can also be enough time for a development for the new season of the show’s series, am I right or wrong?
I like they kept all the original actors, but not pac-man fact becoming a sonic fact. i don't really mind tho.
The Sonic fact was more poetically potent in this instance.
I'm inclined to believe Ramona's hair colour is naturally blonde, I think I clocked it in the background of one of the opening scenes where she dyes her hair. Even if it's not true, it works thematically for me because, as you've said, it's a new beginning for her. Something old and something new mixed together.
She might be blond, but her hair could also be bleached because she seeks to dye it.
Watching the show really felt like they were talking through the other interpretations. Like how you're pointing out in this video. They touched on concepts that have already been woven. Fight someone ex's is already a weird concept but it's been shown. Since Ramona runs a way how bout we get her to confront those situations.
Bryan Lee O'Malley has already come out and said that he did everything he wanted to do in the anime, and has absolutely no plans to continue the story.

@@ciabatta55 They were. Leading up to it, O'Malley made it very clear that this would not be an adaptation of the comics. That, and the sequel baiting at the end was yet another meta gag about Marvel post-credits sequel baiting. The show's great. Watch it, but don't expect a second season, because there won't be one.

@@Peashamwell the average viewer isn't going to look for interviews so making the trailers clear on what it was about would've made a lot of people less upset. Also him saying that it wouldn't be exactly the same could've been interpreted many ways so I'm not surprised that people are mad when the title character barely appears

Best adaptation/Spinoff of the original story, why? the character development each and every ex got in the series was incredibly satisfying and they are not wasted like the comic and movie, best version of the characters, and they also work on Scott and Ramona in a good way
The “death” scene I got spoiled on was 10% of the story fr. I speculated it would have something to do with Scott himself but not to that extent

I agree that the show is better after reading the books or watching the movie. Coming as someone that has (as of now) consumed neither. I though that the show was really good, I enjoyed the characters and the polt, but I don tthink that it really left the same impact on me that it did to people already fans of the franchise. It wasnt somethin thta adressed the issues that I had, for me it was compleatly new. I plan on watching the movie and reading the books, but the show was enjoyable on its own. Wallace was def my fae character but the cast was over all pretty strong.
I don’t think the Super Ramona thing necessarily needs to be explained. A lot of things in the show had no real logic to it, but that’s what makes it unique

Fun fact for you to know. On Scott Pilgrims vs The World storyline, Gideon was the 7th Exes that represents the strongest. This is actually mean that he have the strongest firepower while in other hand the weakest individually. He can't even fight when the VR machine is shut down. Still if it wasn't for the plot, Gideon is the most dangerous. He can just trap you in VR while in RL shot you, kill you on the spot or just use tranquilizer dart if not for the League rule
First it was his Lair which mean that Government can't really barge in as they please. Second he can force you through VR so it looks like nothing happened while you spacing out, there's dead body in front of you waiting for his servant to clean
Some of the technology Gideon use might be because of the Twins. If the Twins are the Scientist, Gideon is the Sponsor and possibly the Twins making Gundam was funded by Gideon
I'd love to see the comics done entirely like the animated series just to have all the things that happened there be fleshed out the way they are in the comics. I love the movie but seeing it this way would also be amazing.

for me, the only flaw was Scott's sword missing. Yes, it's pointless, but it was the only flaw I could find, cause I loved this show ! It caught me by surprise, so I couldn't know what was going next, and I wasn't disappointed.
Nice of them to add the "Even Evil Has Standards" with the exes lampshading how creepy Scott's dating a highschooler was ngl.
I only saw the films and never read the comics, and I thought the whole series was awesome! Really enjoyed the anime vibes and refs! The music is killer!
I have seen some people say this and I agree with them. I think Old Scott Pilgrim is Movie Scott, not Comic Scott.
It was a great send up, and perfect that they didn't do a simple rehash of either the comics or the movie. Given how porous these productions often are, it was refreshing that the surprise twist was actually... a surprise... for everyone.
i hope for a season 2 but try expanding on the Nega Scott idea. maybe have him manifest through doubts of Scott & Ramona's relationship because Gideon & his gf is trying their best on tryna ruin Scott's relationship. or maybe a different choice ngl. maybe make anutha game to it
Glad to hear old Scott isn't the exact same Scott from the books because the books ends with the idea that both Scott and Ramona can grow and after reading and watching the show two times in the last week it honestly makes it really really sad with the idea that the Scott from the books ended up just regressing

I can see, if s2 does ever happen, Julie and Gordon making all the characters we've met, put into a battle Royale. If you think about it, at some point everyone screwed with gordon/Julie. And if they didn't intentionally try to, with Julie personality, it would be like you shot her in the back, literally.
I’d be fine without a season 2, but having one would be nice because they really set up an amazing world to just- be in you know? But this is still probably gonna be one of my all time favorite shows going forward now

Season 2 won't be happening according to the creators. At least not with Netflix as they said it would just get cancelled as with most of their successful shows. If it does happen it will be with another studio.
I relate to Even older Scott a lot. 10 years.. 10 years in a room alone. Now I'm getting buff. So I guess after this I've got to fight a bunch of young people.
I'm pretty sure this series was blessed with 50 different miracles just to exist, something I never thought was going to happen as a kid reading the comics. When the movie came out, it wasn't all that successful. However, it became a huge cult movie success, in the years after its release. This series has consistently beaten the odds, and as a fan of this series and this world, I really feel that characters outside of Scott and Ramona have plenty more stories to tell, in particular Envy and Wallace. This show is still a masterpiece as it is, however I'm cautiously optimistic, that we will get more eventually. At the very least another video game.

I haven’t read the comics or watched the movie but I’ll admit that Netflix really pulled the rug from underneath me with that first episode. So I just rolled with the punches and and the journey was worth it because the big finale was nothing short of spectacular.
I was amazed they got Will Forte to be in the anime, and that also Anna Kendrick got to do a line like Paul Rudd did in Endgame in regards to Chris Evans in the final episode. Lucas Lee is super handsome.
I bet in season 2 it’ll be Scott giving closure to those he dated
