I use a 4 Act Structure. I've never understood why Act II is all lumped together when the Midpoint very clearly separates the feel and pacing of the first half, and the second half. I watched a video by Bookfox on the Natya Shastra, an ancient ext on storytelling. In it, it describes the first part of what we'd call Act II as The Effort, which I think is GOLD considering I see a new writers write main characters that just pulled along and don't really make any effort or choices on their own. Great advice in this video, I absolutely agree that so many systems are just remixes of previous ones. So many are either too vague, or obnoxiously strict in what they insist you do.
I have no idea why it's a three act structure if the second act is half the story and has a midpoint break that could naturally split the second act into two acts. I just think of hit as four acts. The first act sets the protagonist up for a failure that forces them into accepting the quest. The second act shows our hero setting up a solution that avoids having to face their fears. Act three it all unravels into the end of their world. And in the fourth act, with nothing left to lose, they confront their fears and abandon the safe illusions they attempted to protect themselves with. For final structure, the Cat Beats work well for me.
for my story im planning on doing a cartoon inspired story structure, having the plot be overarching and having mini arcs that establish setting/character relationships and growth that contribute to the main plot so that by the end each important character is established/building up to the big bad guy if anyone could recommend me some cartoons with continuity that'd be helpful 🫡 sick bars btw 🔥🔥

Alright, the intro was hilarious. I don't know if you were going for funny, but it's simultaneously hilarious and helpful.

This is the coolest writing and reading related intro I've ever seen!

Eminem’s been real quiet since this video dropped
Writing Theory is the one rapper he will never diss
Whoa, epic introduction -- great work!
Dudeeee, the start is absolutely beautiful 😂
I’m pretty sure this channel is just Carson’s way of launching his rap career
Yes, I hope for no more rap intros.

Just drop the album already!
Fantastic opening song! That was fantastic! 🙂
Haven't been watching you long but I wasn't expecting this video to open with singing. Sounded good though!
wow that intro was sick. felt like toonami. ALSO I despise the complicated terminology in act structures. conflict makes much more sense.
“Felt like toonami” is the highest praise I’ve ever received 🙌 thank you
I have signed up to click up. It will be useful in December when I retire from the day job and begin my full time author career.
Good luck with your career!!!
Great. Just tools to understand stories. Names don't matter so much as knowing the guidelines to adapt them as one sees fit.
Stopped at about 2 min to thank and congratulate you. :helpless laughter: My god, the COMMITMENT
BARS
1.5x on that intro kinda goes crazy
OMG NOT THE CRINGE KING, I clutch myself so bad my arse turned inside out.
You have to risk it to get the biscuit
I frankly don't understand any plot framework. I just write, the story seems to flow, stuff happens.
Or, alternatively write a complicated plot with many characters and subplots. Other ways of writing stories and novels are available.
Just dumb :(
