Was it just a happy coincidence to have Mr Fish (from "Lift Off") playing a fish shop owner? I know he was playing a parody of Pauline Hanson who used to own a fish n chippy but it was just icing on the comedy cake :p

A little too weird? It quite quickly stopped being a pastiche of political promotion and became nonsensical.

Yup but it's also set in a somewhat real world and the character featured in the video is ostensibly not-magic. I'm mostly referring to the stuttering/scratching mouths-as-eyes that comes in at the minute mark. Such effects are rather strange for a serious (at least he sees himself as serious) politician to use.

That's not relevent unless the mere presence of wizards makes people behave out of character. The guy is a xenophobic loon leaning heavily on traditional values to sell himself. The excessive low quality green screen fits the character but the vocal fx dilute his message and is too similar to techniques used in "that racket the kids call music these days".
