- As my build continues, it's time to get a winch installed on the new Recon. Let's get a look at that.

Great install video.
Thanks Scott! Good hearing from you✌🏻
Good video. Thank you.
Thanks Alex, good hearing from you!
Silicone spray! Great idea! I struggled for an hour tonight before giving up and cracking a beer. Was going to try again tomorrow with soapy water, but silicone spray is a better idea.
Hi Jason! As you know, there's no way that you're going to seat that with the line being dry. I'm glad this helped. Are you doing the 10S?
@@ExpeditionBuilds 12S platinum. Trying again shortly, will let you know how it goes.
@@jfloydsea Good luck with it! Locking the spool will allow you to really get into it.
I love this look! I’m planning on doing this exact winch and bumper build on my Jeep. What are you using for the license plate bracket?
Hi Christian! That is the Max-3 'Stealth' license plate bracket. Here's the link: maximus-3.com/home/jl-stealth-front-license-plate-bracket-frame
What size is the Epic fairlead, 1.0" or 1.5"? Also, what are you using for recovery points to attach your d-rings to? From what I can find, most aftermarket solutions require cutting notches in the bumper to make them fit and can't be installed with wench plates, unless they are designed by the manufacturer of the wench plate and mounted to it.
Hi Naaman! That is the 1.5" fairlead. I like using my factory tow hooks F/R as they are mounted to the frame (strength). I use Bubba Rope Soft Shackles on the factory hooks and attach the D-Ring to those. It makes for an easy/quick connection.
If you are looking additional recovery points, check out Maximus-3. They make some frame mounted hooks for the underside of the stock bumper.
Any secrets to getting the 8 bumper nuts back on to tighten the bumper up? My did you pick the Zeon vs the WARN EVO 10s. What hoop are you using that is over the winch? Did you put the factory steel skip plate back in place? Thanks again for the video. Lonnie
Hey Lonnie! Those 8 nuts are a complete struggle. One thing I found that helped was applying tape across one side of a combination wrench to hold the nut in place as you start them...I still cussed at it plenty.
I went Zeon because they are American made. The EVO in made in China so Warn can offer a competitive price point with all the other Chinese made winches out there.
The bumper hoop is from Maximus-3. They call it the XLP Hoop. I have a short review of it in the 60 sec. Jeep Wisdom videos.
I am running my factory steel skid plate. Good thing too, as I got on it pretty good on this last trip to Moab...it held it's own against the rocks.
@@ExpeditionBuilds Thanks I will look for that video. I have seen videos where the hoop position is too close to the hooks on the factory bumper. Also need to rig my new jeep, when it is delivered, to be towed behind a motorhome and be trail ready.
@@Deet3450 The hoop does not interfere with the factory hooks. I carry a couple of soft shackles that use for the hooks, easier to handle and saves the paint.
Check out the Max-3 site, they have additional hooks that may work for your towing set-up?
Nice install. I hope you plan on properly rewinding the rope under tension before you need to use the winch. If not the rope can suck itself under the lower coils.
Hi Randy! You bring up a great point regarding proper winch use.
I have since rewound the rope under tension. For the sake of this video, it covered more of the install and not proper winching technique. Thanks for your post, really appreciate it!
How easy is the rope to remove once tension has been applied? For cleaning the rope etc..
Hi, you can spool it all the way out for checking, cleaning etc. even after a good pull. Removing the rope from the spool would take a little effort once it has been drawn into the key. To be honest, I have never replaced my rope, so I have not taken it completely off the spool.
🤓🥳
What lights are those on the mopar tube?
Thanks!!
Hi jeepgirlygirl! Those are Baja Designs LP4's. Amazing light, they feature a strip light on both sides of the lamp housing that gives a 200 degree light spread making them a great all around light. I'm running the 'Driving/Combo'.
@@ExpeditionBuilds Thanks so much!!
@@ExpeditionBuilds Do those mounts come with them? I love that look.
@@jeepgirlygirl The mounts are OEM-Jeep Performance. They are designed to fit the the brush guard, that is also from the Jeep Performance catalog. Here's a link: www.mopar.com/content/dam/mopar/pdf/mopar-cap/Jeep_Performance_Parts_Catalog_F4_LORES.pdf
What failead bumper filler are you using?
Hey Jimmie! That is Artec Industries. I'm running their winch plate and the aluminum filler is part of the package. Good hearing from you✌🏻
www.artecindustries.com/crm.asp?action=contactus
@@ExpeditionBuilds i love the mount but I noticed they won’t take the warn EVO line so I’m waiting on warns to be shipped.... appreciate your reply!
@@ExpeditionBuilds I just got my gladiator rubicon echo diesel.... starting my build....
@@jimmierpadgettjr My pleasure! Good luck with your build!
@@ExpeditionBuilds Really like that filler. Do you know anywhere that sells something similar? I'm looking to add the warn epic fairlead and would like something similar to the artec filelr behind it.
How much of a pain in the ass would be to remove this? I have a very similar setup but didn’t install it.. u think I have to take the bumper off to remove the winch?
Hi. Yes, the bumper will need to be removed to get the winch out. Those 4 bolts that hold the bumper on are the real pain. Good luck with it!
Zeon 10s is not 60lbs
Hey kg0311, did I mis-state this? That was what I got when I weighed the winch alone. What number do you have for weight?
